They claim it to be Brand New and it is protected by ebay plus and 1yr warranty by the seller. Still a risky buy?
Neither of those mean diddly squat. If I'm dropping >1.5k on a purportedly "new" iphone then the only warranty that matters is the one provided by apple, and in this case, that is not assured.
I bought a Japanese iphone 7 on ebay and couldn't get it serviced by the Apple Store

I call bull-dust on that. If the phone is sealed by apple - that assure/warrants quality. If its broken when the customer opens it, the seller will have to refund/replace. I cant see 'quality checks' being the legit reason.
My iPhone XS Max has the camera shutter sound which depends on whether some ppl like it. Didn’t realise it was an international model when I bought it second hand from a private seller on eBay

Open box overseas model. Could be those Korean/Japanese models with camera sound. I bought a Japanese iphone 7 on ebay and couldn't get it serviced by the Apple Store. Risky buy.
