Kraken M15 Q i7-11800H QHD 165Hz 16GB 1TB NVMe SSD RTX3060 Gaming Laptop + Keychron K10 $1,699 + Delivery @ BPC Technology

270

How's it going OzBargain?!?!?

Great deal on a solid RTX 3060 laptop. Having purchased the previous deal's X15 Q w/ 3070 (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/674128) I can personally vouch for the solid magnesium alloy chassies, mechanical keyboard with excellent travel and one of the best trackpads.

If you purchase this laptop between the 30th May 2022 - 30th Jun 2022 you will recieve a bonus Keychron K10 RGB Backlit Wireless Mechanical Keyboard.
BPC is selling this keyboard for $129

Key Specs:

Did see people complaining about issues with the cooling (possibly driver related, fans do not spin upon waking from spin), but aside from that, the laptop is amazing for the value. I personally have not had this issue with my X15.

Laptop is an unbranded Intel X15 NUC which is 'built' by BPC (They install the RAM + SSD). Windows is preinstalled but is NOT activated.

Full specs here, be sure to look at the 3060 SKU, also remember that it is BPC's responsibility, not Intel's for the SSD and RAM so those specs are not listed here. Not sure what is in these laptops and if they are the same as what others have been getting in the other Kraken laptops.

  • Jeez those are pretty impressive specs for that price range. Makes me suspicious.

    A TB4 port as well.

    • Yeah, really happy with what I've got. Glad I bought the one with a 3070 over the new MacBook Pros.

    • +5

What if I told you this is the normal price for a laptop with this kind of specs in asia especially China. We just pay way too much oz tax on electronics. The Legion is supposed to be a budget model over in China and so is Asus TUF models and can be had for around this price tag - and Im talking about this years 3060 model, not last years.

One could argue that our warranty and consumer protection etc is much better here, that is true, however, I would argue that its specifically because we have much better consumer protection laws, that these companies intentionally add a premium to our purchases so they can 'cover' the cost of this 'extra' warranty protection we get.

      • Most of our price jacked here is because we have to cover labour costs being 100x what it is in China

        • +1

Labor costs? What labor costs? All laptops are made in China and shipped here for sale, if anything, companies like BPC/metabox/aftershock etc have put in more labor costs then Asus or Lenovo or the other big ones since they actually have to hire local workers to install components.

You know why all the custom config Lenovo/Dell laptop orders take so long to fulfill compared to these smaller local companies I mentioned above(when non custom orders are shipped immediately in comparison)? Because they wont pay the labor cost here and would rather go through the trouble of sending the order over to China to let them do it and ship it here.

          • +3

@Brrrrt: Someone got to jack prices and update the ebay listings, make the coffee, mop the floor, stand around, pretend to be busy etc

  • I've had quick look for people here, but can't find anything. I believe the 3060 has a wide range of power options, 80w up to 120w or something, so it's a huge difference in performance for which one you get in the laptop!

If you're looking at benches to check fps, double check which power model it is.

If I've messed this up, please correct me haha

    • +1

Appreciate the thought but this does come with the full 130w that the 3060laptop card supports and have been mentioned here quite a few times. For specs you can google the laptop with the 'Intel X15 NUC' tag mentioned by the OP, as its marketed under different names in every region.

      • Thanks for sharing the Specs!

  • Wow this is tempting.

This or Metabox (Alpha V)? Any big advantage on the 12th gen intels?

    • 12th gen intel have better multicore but apart from that there is hardly any gaming improvements, coupled with only 105w 3060 you will only see worse frames in games.

that and metabox machines are not cheap when configured properly

      • I see. I tried on kongcomputers configuring alpha v with 12th gen intel, 3060, 1tb ssd and 16gb ram for just under 2k.

        • How is the metabox brand? Can't find any reviews anywhere. I'm looking for such config under 2k.

          • @abdulrafay: Oh I've had one before and they're quite good. Very easy to upgrade the parts yourself too. A lot of comments about them in here and whirlpool. They have ones that have mux switch now too.

  • Can you clarify the warranty on this?

    • +1

It's a new laptop sold in Australia. Yes.

      • -1

Is it 12 for 24 months?

        • Pleaaaaaaaase read the website before asking Ozb questions. It is all there!!

          "
Level up to boundary-breaking performance, game-changing discrete graphics, and a stunning display—all in a thin and light design. With 11th Gen Intel® Core™ processors and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30-series graphics, these incredibly powerful laptops power elite experiences for enthusiast gamers and content creators, backed by a two-year Intel warranty
          "

          • +2

@Dvbargain: Thaannnnks - I did read this but assumed based on the comments above that it is a NUC build that this description relates to warranty of NUC components - does BPCTech provide the warranty for the whole unit?

            • @mctrix: Good question - maybe a BPC Tech rep can answer that one

            • @mctrix: Hi! We offer a 2-year warranty for the laptop!

After testing, If it's the RAM or SSD issue, we will replace the RAM./SSD If we find the barebone issue, we will move the old SSD & Ram to a new barebone unit as a replacement. Make sure the warranty is done asap. We will deal with Intel later regarding the faulty unit.

We met a customer who happened to meet another faulty barebone when we first sent him the replacement. Therefore we prepared him another laptop with the new barebone. Intel executes quite a generous Warranty policy for the product, and both retailer & customer benefits from it.

    That's a Kraken deal!

  • Can this be charged via USB C? Obviously not when gaming but just when casually being used.

How long does the battery life last when doing normal office work? The 94whr battery is massive right?

    • 99WHr is the maximum allowed on an airplane, so yeah, 94 is pretty up there. Whether or not that will translate into great/terrific battery life depends on a whole lot of factors.

    • This can not be charged via USB C.

Jarrod got around 400 minutes on a similiar model.

  • +1

I was one of the original buyers at the beginning of this year, and my unit did have cooling issues. I think mine was just plain faulty

note that I am a laptop technician and know my way around things like drivers, registry, physical components, and I couldn't find a combination or sequence of drivers installation that would make the system cool reliably

another thing that annoyed me was coil whine from the keyboard backlight. also the management software would apply its own profiles for colour reproduction, all of them crooked, making photo editing impossible on the built in panel

all in all good design that was let down by lousy software and a few issues. but I know other people were happy with their units, I guess quality control suxx

    • Can you comment on what the battery life was like when doing normal crap like web browsing or wording?

      • to be honest I can't remember, I had to quickly figure out if I want to keep it or not, so was concentrating on stability while gaming (plugged in)

I didn't use it much on battery power, and returned it within 2 weeks

as far as I know 11800H is rather power hungry chip. I currently own an Aorus 17g with 11800H, and it has a 99Wh battery, larger than this unit. battery life is approx 3-4 hours on battery saver

        • +1

Ahh that's a shame. Thanks for letting me know.

Will probably just buy a $1k Ultrabook and spend a bit more and get a gaming PC.

          • @ChickenDinner123: yes I don't haul my gaming laptop around, 2.7kg monster stays at home and is used on battery power occasionally around the house which is fine

for out and about portability and long battery life I have other devices. but that's me, I will never buy a gaming laptop smaller than 17.3 and those guys aren't portable and battery life is irrelevant.

  • hmm this or waiting for legion5 / legion 5 pro / Aorus 17g deal?

    • I am in the same boat as you.

Weighing up waiting for Legion 5 Pro vs getting either the $1700 Kraken 3060 laptop or $2200 Kraken 3070 laptop.

My main concern is how the 3060 will handle QHD…

    • 17g all the way IMO. I am super happy with mine

      300hz panel
      per key RGB backlight
      mechanical keyboard
      full metal build, super solid
super efficient cooling (3070 in mine) always cool and relatively quiet

gaming is pure joy on this. Legion is fine, but too small for me, and no mechanical keyboard.

      • saw your post for 17g after special/clearance was $2299 hmm quite a bit more than this but yes agree 17inches is much better

        • +1

this is 3060 though, and mine is 3070

there was another refurb 3060 17g unit at JW but someone snatched it. was $1800 I think

          • @shabaka: oh i see. they yeah i'll setup notification for gigabyte on ozb hopefully it comes up again one day

  • I got QHD+3070 early this year.

The cooling is working, but the temperture thershold for ramp up the fans are quite high IMO (they will start spinning slowly around 70c ) and I don't know how to adjust that. I can manually put both fans on full speed using nuc studio software but those fans are really loud on full speed and there are no option to set manually to half speed.

When using battery, I can hear coil whine from the keyboard backlight(especially white color), and the noise would disapear when connect to AC adaptor.

battery pwoer is nothing impressive(the screen and 11th gen i7 are hungry for power), I used it for 5 hrs on full brightness for video play back before I need to plug in.

    • keyboard backlight coil whine was annoying AF was one of the reasons I wasn't happy with the device, but not the main one. main ones were overheating and constant shenanigans around color profiles

    • Hi Flywing,

Have you try return the product to us?

      • No, I have not, I'm not sure it's the flaw of the unit or the design, but it doesn't bother me that much for me to go throught the return process.

I would return or ask for a replace if you can confirm you have other units runs better and don't have these problems.

Also, sorry if it sounds like a complaint, but it's not, just stating some fact about the unit I got. I think it's worth my money overall($1799 I believe)

  • Bought this in the earlier deal sometime back in February this year. My unit had an issue where it starts to make a 3-4 light knocking sound when the temperature ramps up (start a game, or watches video on Youtube), and then the knocking sound stops. This started happening after 3 months. No temperature issues. I plan to contact BPC with regards to this issue. Otherwise a great machine.

Check the Intel page for the updates specific to this product and install them in sequence. https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/649904/inte…

    • Probably the fans are faulty, I have an old GPU that does that when the fans come on and go off

    • I had this in mine but I think this is something creaking from high temps as it only happens when temps start going up, and fans are already spinning but not fast enough

    • Hi xsmax,

Please don't hesitate to contact us regarding the warranty support, we will try our best to help!

  • waiting for the Kraken X15 Q Lite Version deal

    • +1

      I just spoke with BPC via Facebook chat, here is what they said;

      Hi mojadu,
I am sorry to let you know that the X15F discontinued already
We only have few X15Q model left
But plenty of M15 series instock

I pointed out that the X15F Lite is still able to be added to cart, and they said they will stop that.

      I also asked about the possibility of an X15Q sale;

Humm if you don't want the bonus keyboard we could do another $50 OFF

Think I'll order the X15 Q Lite for $2200 personally

  • I'd sooner get this Acer Nitro 5 with 3060 for ~$1,095 and add a stick of RAM for $50.

I own it and it has been incredible value. Read my review

That's $550 of savings to spend towards a decent external monitor, proper keyboard & mouse, etc.
Or to save towards a future upgrade, with Nvidia 4000 series cards out in the next few months (likely in laptops at the end of this year), doubling performance.

Though it depends on your individual needs/ability to wait, I suppose!

    • good point… the giftcard kind of bad as most HN are overprice but probably can wait for other deal to use it
      but the screen….

      • Yeah it might be a little challenging to use the gift card, but I am sure most people could get use out of it - even price matching an item to another store then paying via the HN gift card?

You could also pay via discounted HN gift cards to shave off another few %.

In terms of the laptop screen, it isn't great with colour accuracy. So if you plan on using the laptop screen itself most of the time, and you need colour accuracy or it really bothers you, then a different laptop would be better. But if you are happy to use an external monitor, or slightly off purple colours don't bother you, then it's great!

  • Any thoughts on Kraken X15 Q Gaming Laptop With RTX 3070 - https://www.bpctech.com.au/product/kraken-x15-q-kraken-x15-q…
This one or MacBook M1 Max 16"?

    • +1

You obviously shouldnt go Mac if gaming, for everything else if budget permits I'll go Macbook.

    • I have this one; really REALLY happy with it. Although the 32gb of ram is completely overkill for me, the general build quality and experience using this laptop is phenominal. Very comparable to a Razer Blade, but in my opinion it's better than one.

I actually bought the 14" MacBook Pro the day of announcement getting swept into the hype, however after benchmarks came out, it appeared that it's more focused towards video editors, and that it woudn't suit me as much as a x64 based laptop.

  • Man this makes thinking about a macbok pro really hard to swallow…

I am travelling overseas to Europe in September, does anyone know if they are cheaper to buy over there?

    • +1

Personally I wouldnt buy a laptop from overseas as you can get screwed with warranty.
You could always buy it and claim back 10% on the GST at the airport using TRS.

      • I thought that too but surely apple which has a pretty good reputation for warranty would be ok?

    • Depends on what you are going to use the Macbook for, what are you planning on doing?

      • Uni work- ie office applications, watching videos and the occasional dota game, very low power use applications but id still rather spend a bit of money now making it more powerful so i dont have to get one for 7-10 years.

        • Hey, I'm using my laptop for the exact same purpose, and had the exact same mindset. I usually just word process/watch lectures/videos. I am blown away with the build quality, keyboard, touchpad and screen. Obviously, battery life isn't as good as a MacBook, but whenever I need to run simulations for Uni/play the occasional game it has more than enough grunt. Seriously, the i7 11800H is a beast, it beats the Ryzen 5 5600X (Desktop processor!!). I've upgraded my desktop pc from an i7 7700 —> R5 5600, the laptop is still superior, lol.

Realistically you won't get 7-10 years out of it, but it's waaaayyy better than some random HP or Dell business/office laptop that's made out of plasic, this feels like serious kit.

  • What's v2 about the Kraken M15 Q Gaming Laptop V2?

    • Honestly, no clue. Any marketing around this laptop pretty much means nothing considering it's just a built barebones Intel Nuc.

    • Probably means it's the second gen NUC X15. Intel and Tongfang released one a couple of years ago based around an i7-9750 and 1660/2070.

    • V1 sold out, changes to SSD and RAM

  • Can anyone give proper reviews on this laptop?

I'm stuck from a week, not able to choose a laptop. Whatever I choose it got some issues, such as acer 5, dell g15.

    Help please
