Seems to work on all venues and works at different seating locations.

MCG, Adelaide Oval, Optus Stadium, GIANTS Stadium, SCG, Metricon Stadium seem to have a handling/service fee. So tickets are free + fees from ~$3 or $7.15.
Marvel doesn't have fees. Entirely free with no fees.
Possibly Gabba is free but site is borked.

No idea why only Marvel isn't charging fees but others are.

    Afl is struggling hard
The fat cats thought they could milk every last dollar from it and now they're realising that the first thing to go in a recession are luxuries like this.

    • Afl is struggling hard

      Collingwood are subsidising the AFL…

Typidfcal Collingwoood suporters not knowing how to spel.

        • Is, not are.

There are numerous teams under the Collingwood name…

          • @jv: There is only one Collingwood team in the AFL.

My view is that the AFL needs to look at a whole range of issues as to why crowds are not back (apart from a blockbuster game here and there).
Top of mind are things like the ancillary costs (food, drink), the attempts at engineering atmosphere (loud music and effects), the continual gambling ads.

    • +1

Crowds are down for all sports in Australia so its not unique to AFL.

As far as food costs, do without eating for 2 hours or just bring your own. Its better quality and healthier.

When you eat crap with no nutrition, you need a constant supply of it.

People must getting sick of the over umpiring and sanitisation of the game. The AFL only has themselves to blame.

No really, more like people are more comfortable watching the game from home after getting used to it after two years of Dan's lockdowns.
Streaming is also easier & cheaper these days compared to 2019…

Further to Jv’s point; TVs are bigger and cheaper too.

      • -2

It's also too cold to go to many of the games that are starting later and later these days…
We need global warming to kick in quickly !!!!

No idea why only Marvel isn't charging fees but others are.

The stadium is owned by the AFL, the other stadiums are not.

    • Also, they probably make up a lot of the lost revenue from the inflated f$$d prices…

I can't see Sporting Crowds recovering for a very long time. COVID just accelerated the inevitable.

We are getting more and more spoilt with TV coverage and costs aren't going to drop… was a looooong time Member of a Club and have zero interest in joining back.

I don’t think the handling fees matter because a child will be most likely attending with a paying patron and the handling fees are usually per transaction, not per person. I agree with others that there are bigger issues to address in regards to getting people to the ground to watch games. Offers like this are like trying to paper over cracks.

As other have said the AFL does own Marvel, but if my memory serves me correctly, at the start of covid the AFL moved AFL members to digital tickets. These had to be booked online, whilst still being for free (as it was included in the membership). So in order to continue making the tickets free they had to waiver the Handling fee. Since they did this, all other stadiums followed suit.

But unfortunately, money talks so the other stadiums had to put the fee back on. I'm fairly sure marvel will continue doing this for some time though!

    Article here

  • Political correctness and Greed are killing the AFL i dont blame fans for not turning up

  • ill also add this; unpopular opinion i think the 'match day' experience is over-rated and it is generally easier, cheaper and probably more enjoyable to watch it as home.
