The description doesn't say anything about the GT730, OTOH, you are probably better off with the HD530 :)

    • separate video card is useful if one wants to use this as a hypervisor and desktop PC at the same time

      • How do you do that (use this as a hypervisor and desktop PC at the same time)?

        • +2

PCI passthrough the card to a VM. This is relatively straightforward to do when you have more than one video devices (in this case one iGPU and one dGPU) since you can just let the hypervisor take up one of them.

This is much more complicated to do if a machine only has one iGPU. Probably only for the serious tinkerers

        • Unraid

    • Fixed ;)

      • +2

I'm wondering if the GT730 is there in error.

There are no images of the cards installed, and the description also erroneously calls out Intel HD 530 (i5 7500 has HD 630).

EDIT: and then I realised you're associated! Fix your error, fam! :P

    • I think with gaming, the GT 730 will win (marginally) just because it will be more consistent than integrated.

      • +1

It is better, but its just one of the most garbage cards around, designed to fool people to think it might be capable of gaming.

        • +1

Gaming performance will be heavily impacted by the GPU's memory (DDR3 or GDDR5).
Of course only old or low graphics load games will run either way but it would nice to know
Could the rep confirm what card and/or memory is on these GT 730's?

          • +1

@FireRunner: Rep just updated it as the 1GB version, and given its age and ex-corporate nature, I am guessing its the DDR3.

            https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-prodesk-600-g3-small…

Btw, HP didn't specify in their spec page.

            • -1

@annarchon: If you wanted decent dedicated GPU a RX 6400 would be the way to go.

              • @Calmago: That or a GTX 1650 Low Profile. Both are around $250.

                • +1

@FireRunner: I don't think 1650 will fit as the PCI slot is next to the PSU.

                  • @Calmago: You could run it off the upper x4 PCIe slot but will take a performance hit

                    • +1

@FireRunner: May be pick the EliteDesk 800 G3 SFF instead, which can accommodate dual slot x16 card. And the EliteDesk comes with 16GB, a better value IMO.

                      • @O O: That's a older i5-6500 CPU released Q3'15

                        • @Borg: 6th and 7th gen are pretty much identical anyways. So unless you need to squeeze out the every last bit of grunt and power efficiency, just buy the more flexible one.

                          • +1

@annarchon: Crucially HEVC / h265 hardware offload (Intel Quick Sync support) is included in 7th gen and onwards. This makes a big difference for youtube and other media using HEVC encoding/decoding.

                  • @Calmago: I had a 1650 installed in mine with no issue

        • It is not generally marketed as a gaming card, and has a price:performance ratio of about 2:1 where the high end cards are more like 1:2. It is what it is, but for what it's meant to be, it's not that bad.

    love the FPS guarantees

    • +1

      Will it run Crysis?!

      • +16

        yes @ 1fpm

        • Will it run Extra-terrestrial The Game?

        • Finally! An FPS I can keep up with.

Plenty of time for aiming with this baby!

        • +1

Is the m minute, month or millennia?

          • @moggyx: myriad

  • +1

These are SFF, no love for Mini?

    • +1

If you got the space, these ones will run quieter than the mini. The heat sinks are so smaller in the minis, any load and the fan will start to spin, and its one of those blower fan designs as well

    • +1

I've been hanging out for a mini PC deal, missed the last one!

      • +1

TIL the (,) syntax, thanks! Added “Tiny” as they have some Lenovos:
        Here

  • +1

Will it pump 4K videos from Youtube/Netflix without issues?

    • +4

It should, the 7th gen has the better Intel decoding.

      • To be fair,
        4K videos from YouTube/Netflix, yes
        4K offline videos, no…

    • Integrated HD 630 can, the GT 730 card most probably cant.

Some models of the GT 730 can do 4K @ 30hz. Not sure if the 1gb model can.

  • +2

I would pay the extra for the 8th Gen intel ones with 6 Core CPU and Win 11 compatability personally

    • Didn't realise the i5-8500 was a hex core CPU (without hyper-threading).
Sounds like the better value option

    • Yes depending on price. The 8th gen were a lot better.

It's good to see we're finally moving on from the 4th gen versions of these that hung around too long but the sad reality is the 7500 doesn't really outperform the 4770 which is somewhat embarrassing. 6th and 7th gen were a dark time for midrange performance.

      • +2

Yep, generation performance increases stagnated from 4th to 7th gen. Thank you AMD for giving Intel competition

    • +6

      Yes, this https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/234547468805 - is i5 8th GEN (6 cores) and 16gb ram for $330.84 using coupon PLUSFY22

    • id pay the extra for 9th gen with 8 core cpu

      • 9th gen with 8 core cpu

That would be a 9th Gen i7, sounds significantly more expensive than an 8th Gen i5

  • Anything I can plug extra HDD 3.5 in?

    • Same, looking for something to house 2x 3.5" HDDs.

  • Would it be good to connect it to the TV. It could be great for VPN. Getting netflix hbo etc from overseas. Will there be any loss in video quality? My TV is 4k.

    • You can get a chromecast TV for like $70? Much better for streaming

      • Already have that. But I am not sure how I can use vpn on that. There are too many restrictions.

        • Download sideload launcher if you need to download a VPN app. If you just using DNA, you can edit it in wifi settings.

    • +1

I've been using similar PC for my TV for years, its so convenient. I would highly recommend it over chromecast. We have a VPN, its great for streaming where there are a lot of obnoxious ads. Also P2P sharing programs etc.

  • Does the above and 8th gen units have COM/serial PORT at the back?

    • no. usb to serial works identically in my experience

  • What graphics cards can the gen8 run?

  • I would pay $80 more for the 8th gen i5

  • +1

    "Neck snapping" lol :)

    • +1

That's absolutely a true claim. Apply enough force to a GT730 resting on your neck. snap

      • +1

or snapping you neck in laughter

  • How long do people reckon before a Win 11 PC 16gb ram 256 ssd for 300 or below?

    • see my comment above

  • Hey Rep.

is there any chance I could get one of these without the GPU? I have no need for it and dont want to pay for it

    • +1

the GPU isn't factored into the pricing.

  • Thanks OP!

  • I have an old GTX 760 from discarded Alienware, will this be compatible with that? The card is about 9.5 inches long. Thanks. This or the Elitedesk.

    • +1

There's a 99.9% chance the answer is no. As far as I'm aware, there was no such thing as a low profile (half height) GTX760 ever made. The length isn't the issue. Plus, it would consume more than the 75w that the PCI-e Lane could deliver.

  • For every order as well. We will throw in 2 USB car chargers

Is two enough to power the device?

  • Great device for the money.

  • I’m seeing a price of $309 on eBay. I’m not an eBay plus member and this code doesn’t work - SAFY20. Wondering what I am missing.

  • Would this be good for a plex server (transcoding videos)?

  • Thanks! Bought to replace my i5-7500 HP Elite SFF :) a Minor upgrade….

  • The post says Ethernet only, but the listing says Wireless, Bluetooth, Ethernet. What the go?

    • As a matter of interest, where does the listing note Wireless/Bluetooth. Can't spot anywhere?

      • +1

Aaaah, I must have still had the 8th gen listing open and was looking at that one at the time. My bad. Still bought 2 for work :) Seemed like an OK deal for the office. We're still running some ancient Lenovo ThinkCentres with even older generation CPUs than this listing's.

  • Will I get any driver issues if I try to run Linux on this instead of Win?
