Seems like a good deal on the regular Echo (47% off). Solid sounding speaker w decent smart home functionality for this price.

  • There seems to be a generalised Prime deal on their Echo devices.

eg: Studio $279, Show 8 $129, and so on. They've been cheaper before, but only once last december according to 3Camels. So if you want one of these devices now, it's probably about as good as its going to get without waiting for a future sale that may never happen.

Edit: same prices at JB Hi Fi if you wanted to walk in and grab one.

Alexa is a lot more annoying and less accurate than Google Home in my experience. FYI

    • +7

Funnily enough Ive had the opposite, Google always seems to hear our commands wrong - Feels like 50% of the time google interprets "Hey google, lights on" as "Hey Google, whats on?" (especially my partner who has a Chinese accent) whereas Alexa seems to be a lot more accurate (dont have to talk as loud too)

Used Google Home Minis and Alexa Echo Dot 3

      • I have the old Echo plus 2nd generation. It's much more responsive than my Google Nest Audio. Sound is similar. I haven't compared directly. I think the Echo plus is probably more room-filling sound.

        • I've got the old Echo Plus and yeah, it's a LOT better soundwise. (Bear in mind "better" is a relative term, people.)

        • +1

Agree. I got my google nest from my insurance. After 3 months, i couldnt stand anymore. So laggy with the doorbells and all security camera. I changed with Alexa and best decision so far.

    • +2

Interesting, about 30 minutes ago while hanging up the washing I nearly threw my Nest Audio out the window as it wouldn't stop playing music after being asked 100 times, and then didn't grasp the concept of "Play the latest news" which I ask it pretty much every day.

      I think I'll give Alexa a crack.

  • Should we wait for Prime Day?

    • +2

I was thinking about waiting for Prime Day but on this model (Echo 4th Gen) the best previous price on 3camels is $74. At $79 it's at 47% off, so I didn't think it could go much lower and so I have pulled the trigger. The only other thing to think about was if a newer model was on the way, which is a possibility as this one is nearing two years old.

        Yeah agreed
I bought two for Xmas presents at $75
        Great speaker for the price

wish echo show 8 was at the $99 price mark

    • +1

Yeah, I was thinking I'd buy one or two at that point

You can get the clock version for the same price …

    • Yeah, but it doesn't have the hub right?

    • +3

the clock version is the echo DOT and this is the bigger echo. night and day sound difference
EDIT: and this has the smart home hub built as pointed out above

      • It's a shame there isn't a clock version of this though. I'd grab it for $99

        • +1

Same. Still thinking about this deal thou. Been on my watch list for a while

      • What is the significance of having the smart home hub please?

  • +1

Alexa has turned just like my wife, she don't listen to me any more 😔, thank God I have google too..she always responds…

    • It's alright man, your wife doesn't listen to me anymore either 😔
