    Hmm yummy dirt water

Yummy ymmy! Worth the experience in our opinion.

Mixing it with a bit of milk, and on an empty stomach will send you to neverland

      • Have tried on a couple of occasions, and not worth it in my opinion.

I'll leave the anaesthesia of my mouth to my dentist tbh

  • Excuse my ignorance, but does this provide the same effects as the kava in Fiji? Numb tongue, relaxation etc

    • +1

No that's a good question! In some regards, yes, others no.

Broadly speaking, Kava from Fiji can be a bit slower acting and space out over time. This Kava definitely make your tongue very numb (straight away, first contact)

Kava from Vanuatu is more likely to hit you fast, and harder. So you get a more noticeable effect. That's what reviews for ours say anyway! Good to get to sleep with in that sense. Can knock you out.

Also, people in Vanuatu at the Kava Bars (Nakamals) will say Vanuatu kava is stronger, but i'm sure they say similar things in Fiji about theirs!

      • Tried in vanuatu'
Went back for seconds, thirds, etc, etc, etc.

        Bugger all

Having just given away alcohol after 35 years, I'm really tempted to give this a try especially being non addictive.

Can you please try your best to describe the experience?

How many grams of powder would you typically use per drink?

    • +1

Sorry replied in the wrong place…

Sure - try 50g-100g of kava in the strainer bag, strain massaging for 10 min with 400ml water 200ml some kind of milk (full cream, almond, etc).

Then drink it as fast as possible, on an empty stomach.

It makes you feel sleepy, slows thought process and it's like your eyes get a bit warm and you feel sleepy. That's how I feel anyway.

It makes me totally not worry about things like work, stress in my life etc.

It has reverse tolerance - so it gets a bit stronger each time you try it for the first few times too.

      • Sounds pretty good, except 50-100g only works out to be between 5 and 10 drinks for nearly $100. Is that about right?

        • Thats a big first dose, but often you have a reverse tolerance so you need more the first time. You would probably only need 2-3 tablespoons to get the effect. I just say that for if you want a gaurenteed strong first time.

But honestly it's probably better to try 10-30g upon reconsidering.

          • @Tmmy2708: Further to that, once you have had it a few times you don't need much.

Move to Canberra and grow yourself some cannabis plants. That's the ticket!

Dang, I miss the Kava Bar that was in Adelaide many moons ago…

    • They're slowly coming back! Until then we just have to make at home :(

    • Good times

    Side effects of kava include:

    Allergic skin reactions
    Dizziness
    Drowsiness
    Enlarged pupils
    Gastrointestinal upset
    Headache
    Hepatitis (acute)
    Liver damage
    Liver failure
    Motor reflex impairment
    Oculomotor equilibrium disturbances
    Parkinsonism
    Visual accommodation disturbances
    Bodyweight decreases (chronic use)
    Facial puffiness (chronic use)
Blood in the urine (chronic use)
    Kava dermopathy (chronic use)
    Lymphocytopenia (chronic use)
    Movement disorders (chronic use)
    Protein levels decreased (chronic use)
    Pulmonary hypertension (chronic use)
    Rash (chronic use)
Red blood cell volume increases (chronic use)
Low blood platelet count (thrombocytopenia) (chronic use)

    • They only just made it legal in Australia again - the government assessed essentially that the side effects are more likely if you use this every day and try and 'get high' off it rather than recreational use. But accept there are side effects to prolonged over-use, as with most things.

        It's a big list…

Do the benefits exceed the risks ?

        • Up to each person I suppose! If your infrequently using it then that is something to consider.

        • Do the benefits of alcohol exceed the risks??
The list you provided are "potential" risks and rare risks.
The side effects list for aspirin paracetamol and Ibuprofen are long also, including overdose and kidney failure, yet they're sold at Coles.

          • @PukeyLuke:

The list you provided are "potential" risks and rare risks.

Compare to "potential" benefits and rare benefits then if that makes you happy.

          • @PukeyLuke:

The side effects list for aspirin paracetamol and Ibuprofen are long also

            I don't take either.

    • +4

I'm not for or against kava but you could write an equally long list, if not longer for alcohol or tobacco

      • +3

The list for Coca Cola is probably longer

$19 a glass when on sale or $29 normal price.

    • I just twigged and the cost per glass, given the recommended dose/amount.

      Jeepers

      • Fair point but thats just for the first time if you really want a big hit. Espcially as it has reverse tolerance. You don't need to do that, though. Most people are fine with 3 tablespoons per time.

Once you've had it once or twice you should get 16L out of a 500g bag. 16 solid sessions or so.

        • +1

So now you’ve edited your dosage from 50-100g to 50 for first time usage?

            • @jv: You can have more if you like - it's entirely up to you there is no one-size-fits-all.

50g is fine. More if you want stronger effects, which is normally for first time use only

  • Here’s someone’s experience with it

    • love it

  • Can we pick up from the west end?
Any plans to open a kava bar?

    • Sorry for the late reply!

We can do pickup but up in Everton Park from the warehouse, not the office in West end sorry!
