@SickDmith: All assembled and holding great.

One thing to note if you do get the same arm is to adjust the counterbalance weight of the gas arm, I had to do maybe 20 full turns anticlockwise of the adjustment hex bolt. The arm will be up all the way when there's no monitor weighing it down but when the weight of the monitor sits on it, it will stay wherever you put it.

I put the feet on the FO48U first, then put the vesa adapter on, then you lift it up and lock it into the arm. If you haven't adjusted the weight correctly then it will sink to the desk and you'll have to turn the adjustment bolt counterclockwise more.

            • @mortymorty: How are you finding having 2 large screens? I was just considering putting my old monitor on the desk and this on a stand but I'm worried about being surrounded by too much screen space. How far away do you have to sit?

              • +2

                @cheng2008: I love it.

I had to rotate the 43" into portrait orientation because my desk isn't wide enough for 43" and 48" both in landscape.

It's weird but the 43" looks massive, like a narrow tower all the way to the ceiling. I wouldn't realistically use the space at the top of the 43", I'll just put my music player or something that's in the background that I'm not actually interacting with on.

I've set up fancy zones for comfortable sections, but I've been using mostly screens maximized on the 48". Sometimes I split it half vertically for two webpages side by side.

Just measured and my eyes are 95cm from the screen.

I've never felt like you can have too much screen space to be honest. If I had a massive desk/room, I'd have 3x 48" screens in landscape. I understand that most people don't feel that way. I like immersion.

I've had the LG 48" CX for over a year, used as monitor whilst WFH as well as gaming for PC and PS5… Love it! No regrets at all, never had an issue with the size. I've wall mounted it and have a 900mm deep desk.

When I first bought, I was also worried it would be too big, but now I wouldn't trade even for the newer 42" OLEDs. 48" at my seating distance is perfect for me.

    • I have one and love it but the size isn't for everyone. I use it for work and gaming, much better as a gaming monitor but still good for work, plenty of real estate for lots of windows.

  • Amazon and Catch has Philips 55 inch 804 Oled for 1399. This would be better for gaming but if someone is thinking about this as a TV. The philips might be a better option.
Does anyone have personal experience with the Philips. I wanted to put the url here but the comment got unpublished. I must have broken some rule I guess.

FYI for those looking at this over an LG C1 48". This is like $500 cheaper than an on-sale LG C1 so it is a great deal, but know that while this has HDMI 2.1 inputs, it only supports 24gbps over HDMI 2.1 (rather than the usual 40-48gbps), which may mean it's not possible to get 4k @ 120Hz with 4:4:4 chroma color over HDMI. If that's important to you (e.g. using PS5, XSX or graphics card with HDMI 2.1), then the C1 is what you'll want. I also think the C1 generally has more features (it is great for watching movies/shows on) and a better interface, remote, ARC support, etc, but it totally depends what you need from it.

    • FO48U4:2:0, C1 is only 4:2:2 not much better, also C1 has no DP port which to me is a deal breaker while FO48U has 4:4:4 over DP

      • +1

Where did you read that? I'm not 100% certain of every spec but I do know that the C1 has 40gbps over HDMI 2.1 and I thought I had read that it was capable of 4k @ 120hz @ 4:4:4 (not that it's strictly necessary/usable with all content of course)?

      • is 4K @ 120hz with 4:4:4 even possible over DP 1.4? I thought DP 1.4 only had a max bandwidth of like 25Gbps, similar to the HDMI 2.1 port on the Gigabyte monitor? I don't think that's enough bandwidth to achieve that is it? (totally happy to be proven wrong btw)

        • +1

Requires DSC in both cases with the way they've set it up, which is perceptually lossless anyway.

    • +1

I believe 4k120 4:4:4 will work if your GPU supports DSC, so a gtx2000 series or newer.

  • Almost the same price I paid for 43" LG recently.
I wonder if this makes one is better for general office use (I guess might not because of a lot of static content)…

    • Which 43 please?

      • +1

I believe there is one model only available from LG: 43UN700-B

        • Umm not 120hz and only hdmi 2.0?

  • Same price at most stores like centrecom and so on. They hotter even free shipping

    • na they charge for shipping big items like this i just looked

bought this monitor 6 months ago and never updated the firmware, how important is it if im just using it for ps5

    • Newer firmware can add new features and improve performance. The importance of that is up to you.

  • +1

great specs for a monitor, but keep in mind depending on your usage (i.e. static content) because it's LED it has the potential for burn in.

also when I looked into getting one a couple of months ago, there's a widely reported "blackout" issue where the monitor turns off for several seconds.
and apparently the input switching is pretty flakey if you've got multiple devices connected.

not sure if it's been fixed in the latest firmware yet. might be something to check out before pulling the trigger.

    • I was worried about those issues but been using for 3 months no problems. Updated to latest firmware, kvm switch is pretty handy.

  • I just bought this monitor from Mwave for the same price, and I found its worthy of the money you spent, very satsified with this monitor.

  • +2

I've had this for 3 months and it's absolutely incredible for gaming. For desktop use it's not as good because of the auto dimming (which you cannot disable) but I put up with it for how good the picture is.

Also the OSD is quite buggy. If you have no signal on an input for a few seconds, the OSD doesn't appear until you turn the monitor on and off.

  • +2

A few little annoyances but overall this monitor is beautiful to use with my macbook air m1.. runs 4k 120hz over USB-C which blows my mind..

    The annoyances i have:
-macbook air doesnt always recognise the power delivery, hence puts the laptop to sleep when the lid is closed.. solution is to switch off the monitor when you arent using it, and switch it on, thus re-initialising the charging
-dark mode causes the screen to progressively get darker due to no bright elements-> keep the mac dock on autohide and if starts getting dark just move the mouse to the dock
-burn in of desktop items -> remove all desktop items, task bar autohide and dock autohide
-remote and OSD and bit laggy
    - you will need use a third party app to adjust the resolution scaling to get the crispest text (this is with all 4k monitors and macs)
    - the conditioning process to remove any burn in comes at the worst possible times putting the monitor out of action for a few minutes

magine the C1 at 50% more would solve some of the issues, but wouldn't trade it - definitely the best money spent on a monitor.

    • Regarding desktop icon burn in….

I burnt in NFSMW tacho on 360 on my early Panasonic Plasma.

Wouldn't even a constant wallpaper be just as bad?

You'd need them to rotate too. Icons aren't the only thing…

      • Probably would, but I haven't found it to be so as I use a screensaver too.. Best to use darker wallpapers/pure black. I mentioned the conditioning process which corrects any minor ghosting but takes the monitor out of action -I have seen that cycling action work to correct some ghost icons and the screen no longer has it. Every 8 hours the cycling mode is triggered or something like that.

    • What third party app are you using for scaling?

    • Inb4 guys come in saying "mOdErN oLeDS dONt ExPerIeNCe BuRN in"

      • Definitely seen ghosting myself but isn't an issue if you take precautions and let the conditioning process do its thing every 8 or so hours of use..

I use a LG c1 48" and can chime in with some decent info.

Definitely will need to use fancy zones or similar screen manager, and dark mode on almost everything.

    It's fkn awesome, I couldn't go back.

Watch this video for good review on this one (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UniOmgwna7M), apparently doesn't live up to the c1 but large format monitors are great.

I'd personally recommend the C2 42" for anyone with a heavy wallet though!

    • Seems more aimed as a content monitor over a desktop monitor and looks like would be an awesome 4k TV also, wonder if 48inch oled 4K TV's are priced similar?

  • I'm thinking hard about this as a screen for the Xbox Series X…thoughts?

    • +1

I got this a few months back. I sit about 3 metres away from it (basically at the end of the bed plus a bit) and use it for PC and my Xbox Series X. It has a variety of standard image settings and customise the settings yourself. You can also have a crosshair on screen via software, I haven't done this though.
I paid a little less (1039.95 or something), but even at this price I consider it great bang for the buck. I also added a 4k Firestick to give me the TV functionality it lacks.

  • What's with all the shops discounting this monitor?

    • Possibly clearing the line? LG have their own models coming, panel series has been updated, TV prices are going down.

This isn't a great implementation, even though the panel shines through mostly anyway.

  • So I bit the bullet. Now on the hunt for a freestanding tv stand. My desk is only 70cm deep so need it off the desk and behind it, also need it above my desk. I see some adjustable stands on eBay etc but uncertain. Has anyone got any recommendations? Monitor arms look like a no go due to 300m vesa mount.

    • I bought this adapter and a Brateck - LDT23-C012 arm. Monitor hasn't arrived yet so fingers crossed.

I posted another comment with someone on reddit using the same adapter and an Ergotron HX arm (nice but $$$).

      • That looks like a good solution. I would want the arm pointing out the back of the desk as far as possible but I would be somewhat concerned with it failing and the monitor crashing to the floor. Something I'll look further Into though, let me know how you go!

        • I am also quite concerned about it failing but I'm hoping the arm lives up to its 15kg rating.

Supposedly the weight of the monitor without the stand is 14.7kg so it's going to be close…

          Can't wait until it arrives!!

          • +1

@mortymorty: The arm is rated to hold 15kg. Your desk with a point load from a cantilevered 15kg TV probably isn't.

            • +1

@NuclearWessels: I think the desk will be ok, the wood is prob 4cm thick and seems pretty solid.

The arm says it holds a 15kg monitor, I'm planning to have it quite far back on the desk, very close to right above the clamping point, I don't think there'll be too much force twisting. I don't plan to pull it super far forward.

If it feels too weak I will probably cry for a couple of hours and then have to come up with some other solution.

        • @garvani This isn't going to work unless your desk is very heavy - if you have the screen hanging way off the back of the desk, what's to stop the weight just tipping over the desk ?

You'll need to mount it to a wall behind the desk in this scenario, or put it on its own stand like @Warchest solution below.

tl;dr Don't try to mount it to your desk unless the weight is over the desk !

          • @Nom: Yeah I realise that. Which is why I originally was asking about freestanding units which I've just brought. There's no way you would tip the desk over though, it's about 50kg, manual crank standing desk. Monitor arms are made to go over the desk, there's no way you want a 48" 70cm from your face. I'll have it prob 1.2m away, maybe more depending on room

      • Looks like a great option. I'm hoping to have mine mounted to the desk - it's pretty heavy - 1.8m ikea standing desk. Otherwise there's always wall-mounting an arm

    • I'm getting this for mine, as I will be moving it around a few rooms: https://www.amazon.com.au/FITUEYES-Mobile-Wheels-Shelves-TT2…

They have options for non-mobile as well.

      • I was actually looking at the other model of that one, looks ok, just concerned with its height adjustability as there's a assembly vid on YouTube and it doesn't look very high

        • Fair enough, there must be one that goes high enough, but then it may be quite unstable?
I might have seen that vid as well, low works for me as I'll be using the screen from mostly on the couch :)

          • @Warchest: Have brought the fitueyes non movable. Fingers crossed!

  • Any Vesa mounted arms or stands for this? I'm sure she's just not beautiful but also heavy

    • I posted my solution in another comment a minute ago.

  • For people that own this, any issues that people are encoutering? I want to use this for productivity maininly and game on the side. I work on revit, anyone has experience if revit causes any issues with burn in? Thanks!

  • Seems like this 48inch 4K PC monitor would be a awesome replacement for my ALDI 47inch 1080p TV as a pure TV slash later as a PC monitor (when i get a bigger desk, much bigger🤣) finding an excuse to myself too commit too one lolz,..

So anyone's thoughts how great or awesome this could be as a pure TV? I've got a 4K Fetch TV Mighty and a Samsung Dolby ATMOS expensive soundbar,. so I'm covered for tuner and sound, will be placed in a slightly dark lounge room with no window reflections, just saying well how much less or more would a high quality 48inch 4K TV cost with 120hz?, not sure I haven't really looked into it as yet

Edit: anything same quality as this though 34inh to 42inch, just 48inch seems fairly big for a 4K PC monitor lolz

    • I don't think the monitor has ARC support (only 3.5mm stereo out) so you will need to run your streaming device through your soundbar first, then pass-through the video signal from the soundbar to the monitor for that to work. If that's not a problem though, I'm sure it'd be fine as a TV, though I assume it wouldn't have the same image processing capabilities as a TV would, since it's a monitor.

  • I got this when it first came down to this price 2 months ago. Took me 2 weeks to get used to the size but it's incredible. Once you go oled, can't go back to even 120hz VA which is what I was having.

    • +1

You almost have me sold,. how about as a TV? watching movies etc,. sell me more lolz

      • +2

I don't watch terrestial TV- I think most people have gone on to streaming for now. Moving watching is perfect due to the deep blacks. With this unit, the DP is a bonus for PC gaming , and this is what the LG C1 doesn't have.

  • Incredible monitor for PC gaming and console ( Series X for me ) It does get 120hz on console and 144hz on PC.

Everything looks amazing, for the price it cant be beat.

    • +3

      I don't think this does 144Hz.

    • +1

Does it do 120 Hz at 4K with consoles? I thought the performance was limited due to the low 24 Gbps HDMI 2.1 bandwidth.

The specs don't mention 144 Hz with this monitor—are you confusing this with another monitor like the AORUS FV43U?

      • Set mine up yesterday, can confirm my Xbox Series X reports 120hz at 4K.
Ori and the will of the wisps for example looks incredible on this at 120fps.

  • +5

I run mine in a dark room so brightness is way, way down - around 10 from memory. I have 49 hours on the panel so far, easily 95% of that is at 10. I use an all-black wallpaper and have 4 icons on the desktop.

After a month of use when I opened a grey window and just so happened to move the desktop icons, I noticed the icons had burned in. I moved the icons to the other side of the desktop and after a few days, they burned in too.

BUT then I remembered I run it like a regular monitor, i.e. I never switch it off manually, I just let it go to sleep when the computer turns off. That means the pixel refresher never runs, which is a really silly design choice.

So I manually switched it off and let the pixel refresher run, and it fixed the burn-in.

It's not image retention as the burned-in icons were still there weeks after I moved the icons to the other side of the desktop.

So if you do see burn-in with this monitor, switch it off manually like a TV every now and then to let the pixel refresher run.

    Before and after pic

    • +1

It's so stupid that the pixel refresher doesn't run when it goes into standby.

Didn't you get the popup message to tell you to run it? Other comments have said that the message pops up after 36 hours of use.

      • Didn't you get the popup message to tell you to run it? Other comments have said that the message pops up after 36 hours of use.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that, I did get that message. So the burn-in happened between when I got that message and this morning.

Hopefully they release a firmware that runs the refresher in standby so it can actually work like a monitor. :)

    • so you got burn in still after the refresher or you didn't? the pics don't have the burn in on the after pic

      • Sorry that was a bit confusing!

I ran the refresher twice. The first time was when I got the popup message which appeared way before 36 hours use. I forgot about it as it wasn't long after I got the monitor.

About a month later I noticed the burn-in. I moved the icons to the other side and left it alone. A few weeks later it was still there, so I ran the pixel refresher again by switching off the monitor manually. That's when it disappeared.

  • +1

Waiting for the 43" version. Not really in for the oled, just want a glossy monitor, sick of blurry matte screens

    • Lg c2 42" has been out for a while. Harvey Norman among other stores have stock. $2295 though. I decided on this for half the cost.
Edit: Oh realised you mean the 43" gigabyte…

  • I got the LG C1 after I returned the Aorus fv43u (shocker of a VA monitor). I had the fo48u in mind but decided I didn't want to take the risk with crappy gigabyte warranty and headache returning to a computer store compared to a bricks and mortar big box.

It's the same panel as the C1 but I didn't trust gigabyte firmware support. The ABL is worse for desktop use (https://youtu.be/UniOmgwna7M?t=870) and cannot be turned off or minimised unlike the C1's service menu. LG's burn in mitigation features are better implemented and more subtle. If you have a newer C1 that likely has a WBE evo panel it comes with more burn-in protection and brighter screen.

Other features not on the aorus that you get on the LG are motion processing options that remove movie judder, proper HDR implementation and much more tweakable picture settings. And then there's the benefits of full console and appletv/shield etc support.

The only plus I see are displayport for PC and KVM but if you have a current gen GPU with hdmi 2.1 you are golden. I reckon people coming from the usual IPS/VA panel monitors are initially blown away by the clarity of oled or super bright large VAs like fv43u but overlook details that can cap the potential of the 'ultimate desktop monitor'. Depending if you can pay a bit more. I figured if I'm going to shell out $1k+ for a near top desktop experience then I might as well make sure it's close to the best.

    • so why do you think the c1 is better for desktop use? aren't the differences mainly for tv functionality and hdr? I will be using it 50/50 desktop productivity/games

      • +1

like what I said. The aorus shoddy firmware is what limits the panel potential. ABL dimming is aggressive and has annoying pixel refresher popup. HDR is gimped. Watch the hardware unboxed video I posted. but coming from a usual non-oled monitor, it would blow your socks off, but not knowing its potential. A few comments up has a guy with burn in memory effects on low brightness, usual desktop use. Don't really see that on C1's. I run mine like a normal desktop, clocked 300 hrs just with rotating wallpaper and screensaver after 5 mins. No burn in. LG pixel shift is subtle. The newer panels made after late 2021 are evo panels with same new burn in tech as the C2 and G lines.

        • +1

A few comments up has a guy with burn in memory effects on low brightness, usual desktop use.

To be fair, if the monitor was used like a TV (i.e. switched off with the remote after every use), the pixel refresher would run and the burn-in would have been taken care of.

        • Regarding some of these points:
          - ABL is aggressive on both the LG and this, there’s very little between them. If you’re using them in a bright room then if one’s fine then the other most likely is as well. What the LG does better is that you can turn off ASBL which is the timed dimmer, supposedly you can on the GB but you must open the service menu.
          - the pixel refresher pop up only happens rarely for some and not at all for most, and you can click ok to make it go away. This is not a dealbreaker.
          - I have not watched the LG in HDR but I doubt the extra 20% brightness will be earth shattering, certainly not $500 better.
          - the burn in from the guy above was due to him not turning off the monitor. The LG is not a monitor and so you must turn it on/off when you use it/stop using it. The GB is a monitor and doesn’t need to be manually turned on off however it does need to be manually turned off to run the panel protection. But yes, whatever burn in mitigation procedures works for the LG will work the same for the GB as it’s the same panel.
          - the GB may also have evo panels, as they also use the latest ones, mine’s dated 2022 Jan. not sure though since the c1 method doesn’t work for these.

  • Might be a silly question, but does it come with a remote control?

Thinking of getting one as a TV for the bedroom

    • Yes it does. Remote has volume, input switch and a power button.

      • Thanks mate

  • It does have a remote control. For its price, this unit just can't be beat.

  • +1

Thanks guys just grabbed the very last one in Aus :)

  • My order keeps getting pushed back :(
    Moved from 27/06 to 22/07

  • Back in stock at cheaper price $1,073.00

    • Where?

      • Umart. Saw it when posting the comment, 1 hour pick up Mansfield.

        • It’s 1099 now

  • Did any of you fixed the burn in protection msg ??? how did you fixed this ?

    • I've had it show up twice since having it and just turning it off via the Power button and waiting (white light will flash constantly) the 5 mins or so. That makes it go away for a fair while.
I do have issues some times turning it back on which requires me to pull the plug out for a minute. To avoid this I let the TV go into stand-by (Orange light) by it self.

      • You can press ok on the remote to make the message go away. It only comes up once per switch on for me.

    • It's not an issue at all, just a mild inconvenience every few weeks depending on how often you use the monitor. When the message pops up, just turn it off with the remote next time like what Simon86 says.

I've never experienced the unable-to-turn-on issue he mentions though.
