Plus 3 free games promo I think, nice!

    • Is the 3 free games promo confirmed?

      • Based on this post, it seems it's only for Centrecom, MSY, Mwave and Umart. If you go to the AMD rewards page it confirms it.

        • Thats what I thought, but I also seen that PLE have it in there promotions at the moment and PCCG have it on some of there cards so I guess they're possibly going to be getting the codes as well

  • +9

Sweet price! Just made me wanna hodl further lol

  • +6

Hoping to see this and 3080 drop below $1000 soon!

    • +2

Me too and coffee back below $4.
Perhaps too optimistic, before new cards are out, time will tell.

      • A better version of this card is already below $1k. How are coffee prices holding up?

  • +3

    HODL!

$1000 should be the sweet spot for this and 3080.

Sorry about the silly question, but are all motherboards compatible with both Nvidia and AMD GPU’s? Is it the same connection?

Only reason I ask is because motherboards are either AMD or Intel.

(My current motherboard is a Gigabyte Z390)

    Sorry and thanks

    • +9

Yes, NVIDIA / amd cards are same connection. Doesn't matter if you have an amd or Intel mobo, that is only for the type of CPU

      • +10

Thanks so much, felt pretty silly asking but thanks for the confirmation

        • +2

No stupid questions mate… just stupid answers! :)

        • +8

Not blatantly. For many cards the difference is negligible.

Yes, you raised some valid points but commenter only wants to know if it will work in his pci-express slot, which it most likely will.

        • +7

I mean it's still absolutely compatible. The 6500 is, as far as I'm aware, the ONLY card that has what is basically a design flaw that means it gets gimped on pcie3.

You could potentially say it's "a bit wrong", it's "compatible" but not necessarily the "same connection" if you wanted to debate if number of lanes is the "same".

But it's not "blatantly incorrect" or "wrong bad advice". It's perfectly correct for all cases other than the 6500. Just chill a bit, and instead say "watch out if you're buying a 6500".

          • -8

@incipient: This is again, just not true. Even on the card here, 6900 XT, preformance is 5% higher on 16x Gen3 vs 4, more so if fewer lanes. Simply use a compatability/builder tool and check the games you play, instead of "she'll be right" wrong advice.

    • Yes. AMD or Intel in regards to the main board just refer to the CPU it takes and the chipsets used to allow the components to talk to each other.

    • Yes you can use either. Either GPU will use the PCIe x16 slot on your motherboard

    • Your motherboard will support both AMD and NVIDIA, yes the PCIe 16x slot will accommodate.

    • +4

Unrelated to the question itself. It's cliche, but there really is no such thing as a silly question, unless you've already asked it 50 times =P I'm a tech nerd, and I still learn plenty from the people hanging around here.

The thing to worry about is whether your power supply can handle high end cards. The running advice is to have a power cable from the power supply for each plug on the card, rather than have any cables which split or daisy chain, and also make sure your power supply can handle the amount high end GPUs sometimes surge.

  • -2

My only issue with 6900xt and even 6800xt is that for the money I want a lot better ray tracing performance (ala rtx3070+)

    • +8

If you really want good ray tracing performance, just buy a Nvidia GPU and be done with.

      • -2

I already have last year, I'm saying to me it doesn't make sense to go high-end AMD

        • +2

Not in your case, since you purchased last year, but at this point it doesn't make sense to go nVidia either if ray-tracing is priority for someone right now. Because the next set of cards (from both) are expected to greatly improve ray-tracing performance over predecessors.

          • +1

@ThatsCheap: High end AMD is better to buy when both at the end of the circle, because of its “Fine wine” feature.

        • For you, sure.
I bought one of these a week ago, amazing.

    • +2

getting 3080ti performance for half the price tho

      • -5

        With ray tracing?

        • +30

          who uses raytracing?

          • @Rod M: This.. I've recently acquired a 6950xt to work alongside a 6800xt and despite being perfectly capable at running ray tracing at decent frame rates, the modest drop in performance for the slight visual increase makes it really not worth it

        • not RT but it might not be important for some? playing games that don't support it, or just don't care :)

      • This card trades blows with the 3080 if anything

        • +1

          “with the 3080 12GB”
It is better than the 3080 10GB with no ray tracing, used to be placed between 3080 and 3080Ti before the release of 12GB version.

          • @davescott: Depends on the resolution. Not for 4k.
12GB is a "S" type product, offers more than just boosted ram, is a confusing tier.

            • @beeze: What "S" type?

              • @edfoo: as in Apple "S" models

                • @bdl: I do know that myself but not everyone uses an iPhone and knows the meaning of S model though.

              • @edfoo: Last gen we had 2070s and 2080s, below TI, above base.

        • +1

oced, this card beats the 3080ti
          the xtxh beats the 3090

          • @abjsdhasehasee: In the other way around, won’t an overclocked 3080Ti beat this 6900XT again?

            • @edfoo: both oced, the 6900xt beats the 3080ti.
both oced the 6900xtxh beats the 3090

amd cards have wayy more oc potential than nvidia cards.

    • +5

3070 with ray tracing on will result in barely playable with a game like CP2077, it’s a trade off. IMO 6900xt is the better choice for anyone who wants a card right now that will last for several years.

      • I have a 3070, at 1440p I can play with RT

        • Native?

      • my thoughts exactly

      • +1

I second this. If you just game, you cant go wrong with this one.

    • +2

Enjoy those 8gb and 10gb Nvidia rations

    • I care about Ray Tracing. But DLSS; that's a deal-breaker for me.

    • +1

If you want better ray tracing, wait for 4000/7000 gen cards. This gen is still not up to scratch, still a massive hit to FPS with debatable visual improvements in the few games that use it.

  • 4090 soooon TM

    • +4

      that gonna be so expensive

      • +2

Yep, people are treating next gen like the second coming of christ

      • lol no, the price will be cheap like when 20 series release. Check the eth price now, no one gonna pay overprice for graphic card

        • +1

          Because only miners buy gpu's

          • +2

@beeze: Supply chain isn’t fixed and so many people are holding out for next gen that it’s killing current prices. Except a massive shortage on launch.

            • +2

              @freefall101: Expect?

            • @freefall101: Which males it cheap? I don't follow your logic as to why next gen will be cheap.

I'd put money that 4080 will cost more than 2080.

        • +3

they have seen the prices people are willing to pay for gpus, I believe that they will make the cards expensive but not fully overpriced

          • @Al Mawsil: Yes even though plenty of gamers have shown they'll play $1500+ I don't think any increases will be excessive.

Could go either way tbh. Ultimately this market is a duopoly (sorry intel when you have a proper card i'll include you buddy) just like the last 2 launches we should expect supply issues at launch, so they could start with a lower price knowing full well they will increase them after launch stock sells out or they could end up being similar + just slightly increased because we'd all accept higher prices given shortages, supply chain and inflation.

I expect there to be some surprises with some of them though eg 4090 won't be priced the same as last gen imo and could be cheaper.

            • @Osiris: A problem is nvidia is releasing before amd so nvidia can go crazy with prices without competition

              • @Al Mawsil: They released before AMD last time too.

The 2000 series also proved people will pay a lot for gpu's and the 3000 series didn't start at the peak of what people paid at the 2000 series and I doubt this will either. Time will tell though.

          • @Al Mawsil: This is the comment of the day. Manufacturers know that people will pay crazy prices, and with the pinch their feeling due to supply chain issues, it's a good excuse to charge crazy amounts for the next gen

    • +2

by the time you stop hodling for 4090, 5090 will be out

      • nah i will buy at release for 4090 lol

        • +1

You seem to think the 4090 is going to be cheap, you know it's going to be at least $2300+ in Australia, right? If not even more expensive. At release, it will always be expensive or out-of-stock within minutes everywhere here.

  • +1

    Bargain
Where Jimmy77 at to share his thoughts?

    • +2

Still $1099 too expensive for him :p

    • +1

      Yes.

  • +1

I might bite when the 6800 XT hits $900 …

    Waiting for sub $1K

  • Does anyone use this card in VR for MSFS2020? Watched a vid the other day saying their seeing micro stutters in VR. Anyone have that experience?
