Anyone who owns it can please share whether it has USB-C charging?

  • is that hard to up grade ram? or some store can do it for you?

    • +1

Yes they can but you will pay a high premium in store. You can buy 8gb of laptop RAM for about $50 on average at a computer component store and DIY. Refer to the below YouTube video on how to upgrade the RAM.

      https://youtu.be/OauXpVvzZOs

    • Harvey Norman normally does ram updates. I know on their cheaper HP laptops they charge ~$80 installed

      • +6

And it's cheap Chinese ram too, higly advise against getting a ram upgrade through HN.

      • +1

Note that this laptop uses 3200 Ram. They could install slower 2666 kits.

Please find the extra $100 and get this instead.

    • Is the i5 better?

    • Is that better than this dell with 12% cashback + $150 cashback (should come to around $1,000)

      https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-laptops/g15-gaming-lapt…

      • +1

Spec for spec, the Dell has the edge with the i7 IF you can get it for $1000.

You'll need to look up some reviews to get into the nitty gritty that'll help you find the right one.

        • The Dell is a better for gaming, when plugged in, but has significantly worse overall battery life due to the power hungry CPU and small battery. Also the screen, based on reviews, is worse compared to the Victus.

          • @shellshocked: Oh really, I thought the downside of the Victus was the screen was terrible. Seems strange that it retails for $1300 standard price, doesn't that seem cheap? Like what's the catch haha

            • @Kalo: The 120hz panel on the Dell has worse colour accuracy compared to the HP Victus 144hz panel. Both panels are very average overall, but unfortunately the Dell is worse when comparing the two. If Dell had not gone to the cheaper option and put their higher tier 165Hz panel, it would be a no-brainer.

          • @shellshocked: I made me looking for a laptop as a workstation, but possibly to use for my music production.

I would be buying a 32-in monitor, wouldn't mind some light gaming as in Warzone trying it out vs my PS5 but generally I would never be gaming that much.

How'd you get the 12% cashback + $150 cashback deal?

        • +1

          like to know this too

        • The $150 dell challenge, spend over $1,000 to get it. It's under the "earn more" section in shopback. It doesn't appear on mine but does on my wife's so it may be targeted

    • I think the double the RAM and SSD from the factory is worth the extra $100

Does this Victus Intel i5 have a thunderbolt port?

  • +3

own this laptop from the previous deal with $100 HN gift card. i like it a lot! the keyboard is great and the build is decent enough. the screen is quite frankly rubbish though. it can get quite hard to see, even indoors on a sunny day. otherwise im happy. the fans are quiet and it runs the games i like to play on laptop just fine. if you need a "gaming laptop" though, i'd recommend waiting on a good deal for a laptop with a 3060

  • Stupid question time so please be gentle as I’m drinking

How does this compare to a Apple MacBook Air M1 or even the new unrelated air M2?

    • +2

I don't think you can even compare them as the M1/M2 chips can't run Windows. If they could run Windows they would be a no brainer for me.

    • +1

If you want Mac OS, get and M1. M2 is not worth the premium and doesn't provide a significant performance benefit for the majority of people.

If you want to run Windows and/or Linux, game on a budget, with decent productivity battery life, this maybe an option for you.

      Chassis are leagues apart.

      • Agree with this wholeheartedly

        1. If you gaming macs are the wrong choice
        2. If you just use ozb web browsing and email, base mode M1 is plenty, I can run a ton of chrome tabs with usual office applications and never managed to slow it down. You don’t get that much more screen real estate and realistically you should run a secondary display if you need it or get a 16” if it needs to be portable.
        3. If you need the CPU power for video editing or programming etc, then yes M2 may be worth an extra $400.

        Just my 2 cents

    • +6

      Don't drink & use Ozbargain, it's a dangerous combination.

      • +2

Hahah yer I know I bought soo much crap I didn’t even need once hahahaha oh well mrs wanted to kill me

      • Agreed

    • The quality of the MacBooks screen , keyboard , track pad is far superior

      • +3

        Yeah for another $1000!!!

        • The base m1 is only a few hundred more.
