Hello, I’ve been asked many times to repeat this deal and I have, its through Groupon and as I will be fulfilling the purchases I will make sure to send the course out as quickly as I can.

For the record last time I did this many people were hesitant to do the deal as the fulfilment with Groupon is sometimes slow, I have asked specifically to get the orders from Groupon every few days so I can fulfil the orders as quickly as possible, on the deal it says up to 2 weeks but I fulfilled 99% of all orders within a week, so don't worry, you will receive your course promptly.

And this lovely comment from one of the Ozbargain members
FWIW - I purchased this for my wife for Xmas as she has had a DLSR for a number of years but has never been truly happy with the photos that she has taken. On our camping trip last week my wife was going crazy trying all of the techniques that are explained on the DVD and I am just reviewing the photos now. Some big improvements already just doing the basics.
Why I like the DVD:

it covers most topics needed by us amateurs (ordinary folk) and provides some detail without getting caught up in all of the technical jargon
it is Australian and does not get caught up in being too serious and boring
whilst the camera that is used is a Canon the rules and guides are applicable to most brands of DSLR
it is a very nice introduction for those people who might wish to go on to formal, advanced face-to-face photography courses i.e. TAFE or private courses because it allows you to have the basics under your belt and not feel like a total newbie
product delivered on time, as promised and packaging, etc of good quality
it has an easy to use index so that you can skip to parts that you want to review and practice
There are more reasons but I suspect that you get the idea. I like it and recommend it. I have already passed on the details of the product to friends and family and have strongly recommended that they buy it.

  • I bought this DVD earlier this year via the ozbargain offer. It's excellent value. I assume that you are using Groupon for a wider exposure (opps, no pun intended) this time and that their conditions prevent you offering the deal direct here at the moment (else you would have direct control of the orders).

Anyway, I highly recommend this DVD if you want to get better results from your digital SLR.

I’m not going to neg or anything, but seriously how much of a deal is it when you note how often this gets posted? Seems to appear every month or two… In other words it’s basically the normal price considering how often you see it as $15 delivered (5 times in 6 months).

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/user/48774/nodes

    • I see your point but I guess it is also true that if you go to the OP's website and try to but this right now, it is $25 + $5 shipping.

      • +1

In which case $25 +$5 is an overinflated price then. My point being that if it's $15 more often than not, which it is from what we've seen, then the deal isn't really a deal. It's just a normal price. But that's just my interpretation.

        • +1

a regularly recurring deal that's not always available. Yes, it's a bit unusual.

        • Last post on this for me, think I've pretty much said my piece, anyway think of it like this.

"a regularly recurring deal that's not always available. Yes, it's a bit unusual."
-Nope, it's always available, almost every month on OzB.

Just reverse the way of thinking, it's $15 once a month for quite a few days on OzB/Groupon, other times it's double the price. So is the normal price $15 or $30? This just looks more that a regular free advert to me under the guise of a "deal" but once again, just my perception.

Anyway, I'll zip my trap now.

        • "Always". Look it up. It clearly means something different to your idea about it.

In Australia there are 2 types of buyers, your average buyer,(dare I say normal buyer hehehhe), and Oz bargainers… I sell this DVD in almost every Photography Store in Australia at a normal price and through my websites, around $30, we do quite a lot of sales..and it pays the bills, outside of this I get asked many times to repeat this deal, mainly by Oz bargainers and I do and everyone seems happy, that's about it… I'm cool with doing a sale every now and then, it doesn't affect my normal sales and it helps people on here who are new camera users to get a good deal..

      • +2

There are 2 types of buyers, the Convenience type who buys as needed and the Impulse type who buys just coz it's a bargain :).

        • +5

That's why they add all those lollies at the counter when you check out…that's why Gooogle offered billions for Groupon, thats why we spend all of our bloody time on this website…if you are reading this then you are the second type..

  • +2

This deal does get posted a lot, but I buy it last time and agree it's a great quality instructional DVD (..and Australian). The only thing that annoys me is the music in between each segment!

  • +1

OK I caved as much as i dont like groupon type sites…

    • +2

      Yeah, I feel kinda dirty.

  • +2

Ordered, Thanks OP! Now we just need to find some good deals on lenses!!

  • +3

Just ordered.. thanks! Have heard a lot about this course on various forums and yes I was one of many Oz bargainers who requested this deal to be posted again because I brought a SLR after the last deal! That would make sense to post deals every few months (even if it were a similar price).. isn't it??

If going by the logic of some of you guys.. then NONE of the Dominos deals should be posted as it always seems to be around.. infact i have NOT brought a pizza with full price in the last year or so..

    • +3

heehe, I haven't paid full price for anything since I found this site, I don't buy anything until I consult here first, I had Dominos last night for half price, Like I said, there are the normal punters and there is the Ozbargainers..

      • +2

jeez u are one of us!

  • -4

not really a "bargain" you can get it from Ebay US for US14.99 shipped.

    • +5

Yes it looks like someone bought it in the states and is flogging it, they only ship to the states but I'm sure you can find a good deal to fly to La in the travel section on Ozbargain and it will be a lot warmer than here as well..

  • -2

Ooops.. ok you can get about $16.50US from Amazon US shipped… ok.. so it's a 'bargain' you save a bout $2.. but if exch switches in our favour "then" it wouldn't be a bargain :P

    • +1

Too true but we can make much more money if you just trade the dollar on the exchange, or as I call it, Poker machines for white collar people..

  • Would this DVD be any good for my 14 year old son. He got a Sony nex3 camera a month ago and although it has heaps of features to make things easy it can also be fully manual
It isn't a tradional slr but the smaller mirror less camera with removable lenses - whatever their name is.
    http://www.sony.com.au/product/nex-c3k

    • +2

$15 in the photography world is 20 cents in the real world..

    • The hybrid cameras these days have almost all the same features as a normal SLR, I actually shot a few of the scenes with Hybrid so the answer is a big yes, cheers..

    • +1

Nex does have aperture, shutter speed, iso control (via menus) - so i'd think this dvd would be handy!

  • Strange. Just went to buy, entered all my details and credit card then it dumped me back to some page saying:

"Sorry, the deal called by you is already finished, thus the current deal is displayed to you."

I'd like to try again but obviously don't want a double order. Guess I'll wait. Nothing via email.

  • Thanks for answering the question , poohah. I will think about buying, I don't really want to have to be a member of another coupon site, so let me think over he weekend

  • +1

CreativeLive has great video lessons. It's free if you watch the stream real-time or on the next day when they restream several times.
    http://www.creativelive.com/courses

I watched the Fundamentals of Digital Photography lessons and it was intensive! 5 days x 5 (or 6) hr lessons. The down side is unless you recorded it or paid for the notes + dvd, you can't refer back to it.

p.s. Better to watch the re-stream rather than real-time because the toilet and lunch break gets cut out (otherwise 7 or 8 hrs)

    • And?

      • And it's such a resourceful website that I learned my photography fundamentals from there. Is sharing good websites bad?

    • how do you get it free, they are $99

      • hmm did you neg me?
it's free if you watch the video stream on the day when the course is scheduled or the very next day. otherwise, you'd have to pay. You didn't click into any of the courses and see the word 'FREE' in big bold capital letters?

        • got it. thanks

  • i purchased the one last time and i still havent recieved the item. Messaged groupon they said supplier having stock issues and we send it to me once they have it. That was on the 4th of April. So i don't know why these guys are reselling without fullfulling the previous orders.

    • Actually I am the supplier and we have never had stock issues, please contact me on [email protected] and I will sort it out straight away, the only issues I want to see is on a bad episode of Oprah…

      • thankyou i have sent email to you with attached invoice and voucher.
Must of got a dodgy service guy at groupon who just replys anything.

        • No worries, will send a copy first thing on Monday, cheers

  • Part of me wonders if there any more information in this video, than what you can get from reading your own camera manual and looking at some websites on photography.

I've recently bought a dlsr and have come across some really good websites that explains things well. For example:

    http://mansurovs.com/photography-tips-for-beginners
    http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/

And yes, read the camera manual! if want good photos, you need to learn how to use your camera.

    • Yes and no, its a bit like reading the manual of your car, it didn't really make me a better driver..

  • I have some feedback on this. Since I haven't received this yet I thought I would investigate whether I claimed this deal correctly - it is hard to know as it has conflicting information all over the shop.

    The groupon website says:

    How to Redeem

    Buy your Groupon
Ensure you enter the correct address during the checkout on the Groupon website
No need for further action or redemption after checkout
Product will be shipped to you in approx. 2 weeks

However opening up the coupon itself on groupon's "my orders" page, the coupon says the following:

    This is how it works
    Copy voucher code
Enter code into the voucher field on the deal offerer's website
    Redeem and enjoy

Which one is it? How does this work? Should I wait another week and expect delivery or have I not followed the correct process - am I supposed to enter the voucher somewhere on your website? Is the delivery time actually 2 weeks (which has pretty much passed now anyway) or should it have arrived much sooner?

Maybe you can clarify these questions the next time you post this deal to help others. Groupon is pretty sucky at making these things clear … clear as mud.

    Thanks!

    • Hi the way it works is you do not need to redeem anything, Groupon sends me through your details and I post it, I got all the details from Groupon yesterday and everything is posted today so you should recieve it in the next day or 2, cheers

      • Great thanks. I just have a little bit of paranoia regarding coupon websites. I have used various ones before, usually successfully but we've also been burnt so a little paranoia is healthy. :)

      • +1

        pretty disappointing,

Ordered this on the 25th and it will take about 2 weeks to arrive… thought it would be here as part of an anniversary gift for my wife… it wasn’t…
from what you said it sounds like it was groupons delay… still pretty bad though.

        • I can only fulfil the orders when I get the details from Groupon, I have had everything ready to go from the time the deal and I fulfil as soon as I get the details from Groupon, I can't do any better than than unless you buy directly from my website where we fulfil daily..

I'm pretty sure they said in the conditions that it is 2 weeks delivery, if you look at a lot of the deals they are 6 weeks to 2 months, they run a deal and then do an order to China based on their sales, extremely dodgy..

        • yeah pretty bad on groupons behalf…would have prefered to buy direct from the supplier…

          PS great feedback btw.

        • +1

Actually I have to say Groupon are trying hard to make it the best they can, they realised delivery times was a weakness and they have changed the way they are running the deals and they now delivery all the details as soon as they can after the deal is finished, they are working around the clock to do this including Sundays. I have received details from them on Sundays in the past

Before I did this deal we formalised how we would do it as I got stitched up earlier buying a deal posted on Ozbargains and waited 2 months to receive which pi#$$$ me off.

Groupon are on it trust me, if they weren't I wouldn't do the deal..
