          • @John Doh: In my case it's been the other way around… More CTD with my 3060 than my 5600XT (actually had none with it). I've had to DDU the drivers 3 times since owning the 3060… Didn't need to do it even once with the AMD card.

            • @scud70: Do you have a good Single threaded performance CPU? NV driver overhead is higher. I had a 3570K running at 4.5GHz and was a stutter fest with my GTX 1080. Once i upgraded to 3700X, everything became smoother!

              • @John Doh: Yeh 5600X, I get about 4.7 on single thread while gaming… Both had the same CPU to use. It's mainly gta V I've had issues with but also happens randomly in other games… It then stops once I reinstall the drivers only to raise its ugly head some time down the tack… Very random but annoying.

        • Same - I’ve been tempted by these for FS but it seems VR performance is way off the nVidia pace, sadly.

          • @vongole83: If you've been viewing this, don't forget that is for the HP reverb which is a 4k headset :)

From vids like this, the 6900xt looks good for 1080p headsets - so considering what headset your targeting also

            • @bdl: Ah I have a Quest 2 at the moment - was planning on using that for a starter. I’m an Xbox FS’er looking to make the jump to PC.

              • @vongole83: 3080 would be good for quest 2 MSFS I believe, I'm looking at doing similar (but still dont have quest 2 quite yet :) )

                • +1

@bdl: Yeah I am going to hold out for a 3080Ti sub 1K

    • +1

Because the 3080 Ti has double the hashrate. But prices will correct eventually. Nvidia cards really have no right to be as expensive as they are given that they're using cheaper silicon and less VRAM.

      • Depends if VRAM is affecting the usage. DLSS, (FSR2 works too), Better hash rate, CUDA support, better RT for future games, sligtly better drivers, slightly better resale values are good things to have. But ya, double the price is not justifiable.

        • +2

VRAM is affecting the cost, GDDR6/X prices surged ridiculously to be ~$30 AUD/GB during the peak. Not sure what manufacturers are currently paying for it. Things like RT and DLSS are a fixed cost, reduced by sale volumes. And of course, Samsung 8nm is a much cheaper (and worse) node than TSMC 7nm.

  • Is TUF or TOP edition better? Much of a difference?

    • +2

TOP is better. Slightly higher clock speeds. Strix has better cooler than the TUF/TOP I believe but all of them cool the cards well

So this deal is far better than the linked above deal?

        • +1

          Yes. For clock speed comparison:

          TUF
OC Mode : up to 2340 MHz (Boost Clock)/ 2105 MHz (Game Clock)
Gaming mode : up to 2310 MHz (Boost Clock)/ 2075 MHz (Game Clock)

          TOP
OC mode : up to 2390 MHz (Boost Clock)
Gaming mode : up to 2335 MHz (Boost Clock)

          • @Solrak: God damn it, I just paid $1100 for a inferior card literally a few hours ago

            • +2

@Lionheart: "inferior" by 50Mhz, don't worry about it and enjoy your purchase

              • @bdl: $100 more as well

                • +1

@Lionheart: You do get the free games from pc case gear though you made more than the $100 back at least

                  • @maverickjohn: Rather the $100 lol…I sent them a message, see how it goes I guess

                    • @Lionheart: Fair enough but the difference wouldn't be that noticeable. I get you though

                      • @maverickjohn: I’ll be happy regardless, quite the step up from my 1660! Should handle 1440p gaming for a while

                    • @Lionheart: If you don't get a refund, stop reading GPU threads for a few months and game instead

      • which most will override with tuning anyway.

Had my RX6900 XT for 18 months or so (Dec 2020) Paid $1700 odd back then but I sure as sh*t got my $700 worth out of it in that time. Fast forward to a month ago and built a friend a new rig with a Ryzen 5900x in (like mine) He wanted the best GPU available for 1440p (doesn't give a toss about Ray-Tracing) I steered him away from a RTX 3080ti/3090/3090ti as I still feel they are way overpriced even in this falling market. So I told him to hold off on the GPU purchase for a month or so and soldier on with his overworked RX480. Now I finally snag him this deal for an RX6900 XT for under a grand and still claim for the current tax year.

And yes there are new AMD 7000 series cards and Nvidia Lovelace coming out in 4 months but there will always be better GPU releases just around the corner. I'm also sure the price of the RX6900 XT will still drop further (probably bottom out at around the $750-$800 mark new?) But if you have been waiting, waiting, waiting or you old GPU aint cutting it no more. This is definitely a decent buy and you're not paying any Crypto tax buying this card at this current price IMHO.

Anyway as that annoying gimp with the baseball hat on YouTube says "As always time will tell"

    • +3
      1. $1000 with a few days left, will be lucky to get $100 with of deduction for this FY.
      2. Deduction on a gaming PC?
      • +1

The computer may also be used for work/businesses purposes, and (hopefully) adjusted for private/non-business use

  • would this fit into the nr200p?

    • yes

      • +1

        Yes?
Barely, I've done it, it's really really close. Felt I was damn near going to damage the card at one point. Think I had to remove everything but the motherboard, and a small part of the case to get it to work.

It did work, but I never felt comfortable with it, moved it to aLian LI Dynamic mini.

    • Just, it's bigger than the RTX tuf cards

    • Aside from size which will be tight, What PSU do you have it your NR200? Just be careful with sfx PSUs, they dot handle transient power as well due to their size.

      • forgive the newbie question, what do you mean by this?

I have a 65W AMD cpu with a 600W SFX PSU in a micro case… pondering if get this, if I will need a PSU update as well…

        • +1

First make sure the gpu will physically fit, from PSU stand point you have to make sure you have the appropriate connectors as this will take 2 X 8 pin. Even if you don't hit the maximum 600w + over volt protection while under load some times there are spikes in power usage… They call it transient power spike it could be a ms long but in that ms the power can spike to double what the card is rated for, gpu manufacturers especially Nvidia put the responsibility on the PSU makers to deal with it, on lower wattage cards it doesn't matter too much but in these it can cause PSU to shut down, this type of behaviour can be more prevalent in sfx power supplies (ones for itx builds like my NR200). Check out gamers Nexus they go into huge amount of detail. In your case I would highly recommend a psu upgrade so you don't end up with any head aches… I have a 650w in mine and I wouldn't risk it…lol

  • +4

this easily destroys the 3090/ti in pure rasterization per $

    • +10

I mean, so does every other single card.

  • Tempting to grab this and give kids my 6800xt, but then I prefer the look of my reference XFX 6800 xt!

  • -1

3080 will be sub 1k soon , comparable performance (slight edge to 3080 at 4k in most games) but DLSS and better RTX perf give it the edge

    • +1

comparable only to 12gb. Not many care about ray tracing / DLSS

      • +2

let's not ignore how nvidia absolutely stomps on amd in professional/creative applications, too. nvenc is also very important to a lot of folks. ampere seems to scale better at higher resolutions as well. it's a pretty compelling offer, even if amd tends to have the best raster performance for the money in addition to much better linux drivers if you care abt that.

      • -1

No matter how you slice it you get more tech for your money with the 3080, and much better in productivity too. The non RTX perf difference between the two is sub 5%.

      • Even at 4k, no games use more than 10gb at the moment, you'll run out of performance before VRAM will be an issue.

Looks like their wish was granted, I can't see the cheap Ferrari's though.

    • no ferrari testarossa :(

  • +8

I caved in and couldn't resist any longer. Finally get to upgrade my ATI HD7850

  • Wow, for literally the same price of a RX 6600/6700 XT not too long ago!

  • +1

with the cost of living going up everyday, I don't see people buying luxury items, like high end GPUs. those prices have to come down or they won't sell… Just my opinion.

    Gt730 ftw😁

    • +4

That was how it was always, just miners were stealing the cards. With that being dead, things getting back to normal.

      • +1

When the miners unload them it will be interesting.

        • +2

I can already see miners listing 3080 for 900 to 1K on ebay. I wouldnt buy them at those prices tho, but its beginning slowly.

          • @John Doh: not sure why would someone buy a used 3080 for 1k, whilst brand new is just $1170…

    • +1

It might not be that high end cards are bought by those on a budget and who the cost of living changes will matter most to.

    • Lol, it affects the poorest a lot and the richest not at all. The poorest weren't buying 6900xt's.

  • Forgive my ignorance. is this overkill for an 8700k - 16bg ram - and would a 850w power supply handle it?

I can only run 2 sticks of ram due to bequiet cpu heat sink blocking 1st(4th?) RAM slot. . Mobo is an Aorus z370 gaming 5 if that helps in anyway.

feel free to laugh at my expense.

    Thanks.

    • If you are playing 4K not much.

    • They recommend an 850w PSU on the store page, and the recommended PSU is usually a bit overkill to be safe, but another thing you need to consider is whether your PSU has enough of the right types of connectors for a high end GPU. The common advice is to have a dedicated power cable per plug and not cables which split or are daisy chained, as those apparently can't provide enough power and can cause damage.

  • -1

Bitcoin is dead, long live $500 high end Graphics cards. We still have a way's to go for these to drop to $499.99.

  • +3

This card will be $900 in the next 2 week. HODL

    • +4

but then youd miss out on 2 weeks of awesome

  • tempted… do I need to upgrade my Cosair RM 650x PSU to a greater power for this card? my cpu is Ryzen 3600

    • +1

It'll probably be ok, but it doesn't leave much head room if there is a spike in power usage. Although more typical in Nvidia cards the transient power spikes can cause the PSU to shut down if the spike is above what the maximum the PSU can handle… Gamers Nexus have a good video on it which was posted this week…

    • I would undervolt it a little bit or even cap the clock lower until getting a better PSU, that is if you have any restart or shutdown from high load.

    • +1

i bought one last week, its sipping ~220w, but its the transient power draw which is the issue.
I bought a new 850W, A tier PSU for $110, worth the insurance.

  • +8

There are idiots on fb marketplace still think their 5yr old 1080ti is worth $600 or more

  • Wow, fantastic price. why amd card is dropping so fast compare to nvidia?

    • Mining hangover might be one reason. NVIDIA have further to fall.

    • Most likely Asus is giving a big fat rebate to sellers clear these cards. You don't see as much discounting from other OEMs.

  • +5

The fact this is still in stock tells me more price drops likely coming. Will wait, again… 😂

    • +3

Yea same lol. Woke up and saw it still in stock….think made the right call to hold longer lol. If 3080ti at this price would be sold out by now

  • As others have said you really won't sweat a few bucks here or there once you have it. I paid $1900 in August '21 and no regrets. Mined a little and I sold my 1070 for $500 at the time. Great cards.

  • +1

    Crazy. Flagship for under $1000.

    • +1

      Flagship is 6950xt

  • Wonder if its better to pair this with a 5950X or a 5800X3D?

    • +2

Gaming is always better with 3d from what I've seen. You compromise a little in productivity though. I reckon just get whatever is cheaper. They are close enough in price with 3d tending to be cheaper but rarely on sale.
      $760 on eBay for 5950x
      $680 or so for 5800x3d

  • 220+ positive votes, but the item is still in stock, I guess the feeling is to wait for the price to drop further.

    • +4

Truth is card price will go further down, crashing.

No miners buying new cards, gamers just hold.

      • We are seeing just a few lines with lots of stock, but it does seem there is more to sell.

    • +1

bruh this beats the 3080 in performance

    • +4

there's more to life than mining

    • i would avoid buying GPU's for mining right now, but each to their own.

  • +4

This could be a price error or limited stock. I can add 9999 to cart. There's no stock limits on this item. People keep commenting that the deal must not be that good cause it's still in stock. Eh no, it's still in stock because the available quantity on the website is unlimited.

    • +3

i bought one last week. too a week to deliver, they're just placing orders then getting the disty to send.

      • +4

being able to add 9999 is a bad sign..
Means, the forgot to restrict the number sold…
I suspect they going to be a few sad people around and lots of refunds…
This has been insanely popular. and I wouldn't be surpised if 100s have been sold..

  • Should I buy this or $1800 for 3080ti

    Really hard decision for me…but 800 difference…

    • If you care about saving money, this.
If you don't care about the money and want the best FPS and features, 3090TI.

    • +2

Just look at benchmarks, you're not getting $800 worth of more performance with the 3080 ti.
Also new cards inbound soon anyways, you could sell the 6900 xt and not take a huge loss if you want to upgrade to the 4000 series, meanwhile the 3080 ti price will tank so hard when the 4000 series drop.
HODL if you can, if not get the 6900 xt, save $800 for future upgrades.

      • thanks, I will take this then

    • Really easy decision

  • How does this compare to an rtx 3080?

  • my 3080 doesn't seem worth it anymore :(
