Til when, 4000 or 5000 series? xD

      • +8

        To the Moon

      • +7

Till the sun expands and engulfs the earth apparently

    • +4

Yes! Just one more hundred and bring it sub $1, this is so that the 4000 series will be closer to the price and not the bs $1.4k mark-up one. That man in leather jacket needs to see what actual price gamers are willing to pay not miners :P

now is the time to not buy and send them the message!

I'll be a millionaire if I get a dollar for each HODL comment…

      • same, would be a millionaire ages ago if I got $1 for all the up ramp and FOMO comments since last year at the peak price……LOLOL how the table has turned :D

        • not really, I'll get $8 from this thread alone, and yet not a single ramp up comments so you get $0.

  • -8

Will drop to $500 by the end of the year.

    • +23

Not a chance at all. They will run out of stock before they let this happen.

      • AFAIK the chips which turn out imperfect have some parts disabled and are sold as lower tier cards (in a process called binning), so if those lower tier cards are profitable to spend the resources for on that process, then presumably these would be profitable to be sold at the price as lower tier cards (though maybe the binning process is just about recouping some of the costs by selling it as a lower tier card, and they don't break even).

      • they will be able to make the 3000 series gpus on a different production line then the 4000 series so they could make both at the same time

        • Why would they make themselves competition?

          • +1

@dosada: It won't be competing, the 4000 series will be more expensive.

Just look at the example of AMD 5000 series CPUs. They kept selling 3000 series at the same price and increased RRP for their new product.

There is an ongoing silicon shortage (which is why Nvidia is so stingy with RAM). Prices dropping now is because the middlemen aren't making their obscene markups anymore, Nvidia has made the same profit the whole time.

Remember that the 3000 series RRP was a significant discount vs the 2000 series, to compete with AMD's superior hardware. It proved to be entirely unnecessary- AMD is not capable of supplying the market volume required to compete. Nvidia have zero reason to release the 4000 series at the same RRP as the 3000 series

Could do once new cards are out, which would mostly be due to new cards doing more work for less wattage and lower (than this, we hope) pricing.

What's your guess on the price of the card that beats this?

  • This is amazing.

  • +8

Hodor hodl so long and ended up dying.

    • +1

      RIP in peace

      • And eases demand too ;)

      • +1

        Hold in piece

  • +2

    Thanks OP

Need price drop further and quicker, before petrol and lettuce took our GPU budget :)

  • +4

    $999 tuf 6900xt better?

    • +9

By miles. This is definitely a good deal, but the 6900XT is better

      • +1

i didnt know 5-10% means miles in your language

        • Maybe because you don't understand my language

          • +1

@dosada: or maybe because you love exaggerating to people who might not know any better

    • +7

6900xt tuf is the better card/cooler - downside is amd rt sucks and the video encoder on amd is quite poor

    • Same thoughts here damm 👍

    • 3069xt rtxh+

    • For now at least you have to factor in DLSS2 which is only on NVidia cards and is a bit of a force multiplier when it comes to graphics quality. AMD have been trying but so far they haven't been able to really touch it.

In raw compute terms the 6900xt is better so you could buy it with the expectation that its upscaling solution will eventually get there.

The RTX 3080 was released 17/09/2020 at the starting price of $1,139. Almost two years later, but we are now below that RRP.

    • +2

The fact that its below RRP is a good indication and will not allow next gen to be priced way higher. The lesser the people buy now, the higher the chances of next gen not having highly inflated RRPs

      • I don't follow. Are you saying the 4070 cant cost more than an 3080? likely.
Are you saying a 4080 cant cost more than a 3080? Strap in…

        • More like strap on…

      • you forget one rule of supply and demand, silicon is not renewable resources, humans are.

there always be more demand than supply, price will not go down until many humans dead to ease the demand.

        • +1

You are correct about supply and demand. But there was always enough supply. The demand was higher due to mining. Now mining is dead, everything all back to normal. Prices falling on existing GPUs are an indication of that.

Humans dont have to die, just mining.

          • @John Doh: your main assumption is that all humans mine with their GPU, many also do gaming, and a lot.

stopping mining alone won't stop the rising demand.

            • @[Deactivated]: My main assumption is all miners are buying 10 cards per head on average.

Also, the rising demand due to population increase will be met with increase in production. Otherwise only 1 in 10 people would own a car/house/TV etc as population has increased so much over the last 25 years. But the fact is people now own multiple TVs, cell phones, cars per household. In fact nvidia has stopped producing 3080 so as to clear the stock.

              • @John Doh: Frustrating isn't it when mining died and what happens to those 9 cards unused per miner. price should hit rock bottom but it isn't. hmmm….

                • @[Deactivated]: Not sure why you feel that. Am not frustruated at all. Infact its the miners that are shit frustruated. Bot cards for high amount and lost all the mined money as many didnt sell and now feeling painful to sell cards for cheap and still trying to sell it for 900 for a 3080. lol. Infact I am looking forward for next gen which you already know. Prices will fall and keep falling. Atleast thats what being predicted and its happening slowly but steadily.

Probably you should see the Video Cards section of OZB to see how much cards costed few months ago and how much cards cost now. But you already know that dont you ;)

                  • @John Doh: I'm not frustrated, I'm assuming you are.

          • +1

@John Doh: Exactly, mining was artificial probably once in a lifetime demand. Crypto space is a wasteland now and with POS being the future, we won't ever need GPUs wasting gobs of power to fuel the next coin ponzi.

Plenty of supply for real gamer demand, in actual fact there are reports now that nvidia is trying to cut wafers for 5nm and TSMC is telling them to go pound sand. it's reported nvidia is overstocked of the 3000 series and is starting to panic.

    • I just found that post. Was a great price for a EVGA card. There was a techfast post on the same day that showed a galaxy 3080 for 1299.

Of course it took the retailer 3 months to ship out all orders of the EVGA 3080.

  • hopefully the new cards come out this year. so I can upgrade :D had the 6600 XT since launch so looking for an upgrade at some point.

      Lol…. From an employee

      • He either click on the Employee check box when posted by accident, or he knows more price drop is coming.

        • Or he is trolling around.

          • @John Doh: Or they are an employee who holds.

          • +1

@John Doh: or he is using reverse psychology

            • +1

@abctoz: This is getting too much for me, this reverse psychology is killing me :).

          • @John Doh: Or he's just trying to get fired.

  • Excellent price.

    Nice find OP!

  • Does anyone know why gigabyte have chosen to have 2x dp and 2x hdmi (instead of the commonly used 3x dp?). It’s the only thing stopping me from getting one as I triple screen

    • +1

Dont most monitors have HDMI inputs?

      • +2

yep, just means I'm capped at the lower refresh rate of the hdmi input of my monitors (when using nvidia surround). Not bad, but not great

    • +1

just convert hdmi > dp for your lowest res display

    • I discovered this after buying a gigabyte 3070ti - so annoying. Means I can't run triple monitors over DP which means no gsync!

      • +2

        Gsync works over hdmi too.

        • but not as good as display port.

    • Because that's how things were done in 2020 when this card was released :)

      • Seems like that's only how gigabyte do it, all (or most) the other brands have the normal 3 dp. Even my gigabyte 2070 super has 3 dp

  • Thanks OP
Decided to bite the bullet after a really long hold ;-)
Would have preferred another EVGA since I've loved my 2060 super but hopefully no issues with the Gb.

  • +2

just need to HODL for 4 more weeks, must not be enticed by deals before I have time to play with upgrades.

  • HODL……………..
800 would be an ideal price in a perfect world.. who knows when we will get there

    • 2080ti was around this price a week before the 3080 was available. Owners of 2080ti were panic selling, second hand, for ~$800 at the time.

  • HODL!!!

Unless you desperately need a GPU right now, may as well wait until the end of the year for the 4000 series.

  • what is the cooling performance of this card assuming no overclock of any sort, and running heavy graphics games?

    • +1

      Poor / c grade.
Undervolt and drop frequency a little or run the fans loud (or both).

      • Cheers.

  • I'm excited for the 4000 series and the tremendous mining that could be accomplished.

    • Bait set

  • Why is it always Gigabyte?! :\

    • +1

Because its a lower tier card, you will see more of the lower tier cards as they become cheapest, soonest.

      • And Gigabyte having a history of not honouring replacement cards if defective.
        Caveat emptor with GB.

  • +1

Everyone HODL and prices can come down more :-)
