Been on the lookout for EOFY laptop sales for business/gaming and this seems like a pretty reasonable compromise. It's on sale for $2799 everywhere at the moment but seems like Shopping Express is the only place to stack an extra 10%.

Bit of a niche laptop, there's probably better options for pure gaming but:

  • 4K AMOLED screen with HDR400
  • Thunderbolt 4
  • i7-12700H
  • Only 16GB DDR4 unfortunately, upgradeable to 64GB
  • 3070Ti (130w)
  • Actually a reasonable selection of ports - USB A, Gigabit ethernet, HDMI, mini DP, Card Reader, 3.5mm
  • 99Wh battery
  • 2.3kg

I'm on the fence personally, hoping to find something a little simpler sub 2k but not sure of my chances.

  • This is a good deal. However, their official website does indeed say DDR4. Also, would probably be better to downscale the resolution when gaming though, 4k on a laptop 3070ti is not ideal. Then again its 60hz…

  • Am I missing something? I think this is the best value for money laptop I have seen so far this year

It's probably because this laptop kind of fits into nowhere, it's a bigger laptop but not exactly top power gaming and only a 60hz screen. It's got a good screen for media but is bigger and more expensive if you just want media consumption.
Kind of only fits into the creative area, but there are much better options available anyway

      • I'm after a laptop like this with similar specs for creative projects (music production, multimedia) - what are your recommendations for better options that are available?

        • I'm mostly been looking for a gaming / portable laptop, so couldn't really give advice on a good creative one.
Though because this is discounted so much is pretty good for the specs
I'm waiting on the Legion 7i Gen 7

I think it's just a bit of an oddball one unless you work in a creative field. If someone wants a gaming laptop, they'll get one with a lower res faster refresh display, better GPU, and slightly inferior CPU for less money.

I think it seems like great value if you need what it's got. Unfortuantely seems the Aero 15 series has some weird quirks with webcam location, port location (RHS) etc. So it's definitely not a perfect laptop but for the money I reckon it's pretty amazing.

DDR4 combine with 12th gen is not great.

    • Does it make a tangible difference, particularly with a laptop?

if 3060 is okay, then this is also an option: https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-laptops/new-inspiron-16…
    i7-12700H
    3060 6GB GDDR6
    16.0-inch 16:10 3K (3072x1920)
    32 GB, 2 x 16 GB, DDR5, 4800 MHz, dual-channel
    86 Wh

I've been looking at this for something portable then docking with a eGpu, it's well priced for the specs especially if you also add the 26ish% discount from the students program

I'm just worried about what sustained wattage it can put on the cpu

      • omg! I'd never seen this coupon and it works! Thank you!!

    • I've been eyeing off this new Dell, and also this https://www.centrecom.com.au/asus-vivobook-pro-16x-oled-m760… Asus for the 4K OLED. The Dell probably makes more sense though—newer gen+3060 instead of 3050Ti.

    • Not a bad find! Especially with the 25% extra off if it works. Do be aware seems to be a very low wattage 3060 at only 60w.

    • 60w 3060 - i didn't realise it went down this low

    • The 60W TDP on the 3060 is concerning

  • Dell G15 sounds a better deal, and cheaper. Plus DDR5

    • Can you upgrade the ram though? or proprietary Dell ram only?

      • +1

there is rarely proprietary RAM, only soldered which is not the case for the G15.

    • +1

In fact, I see now the difference. The UHD AMOLED screen… Yeah, But I really don't see that need in a small screen, although it might look stunning

  • Damn it it's already out of stock. Was going to pull the trigger
