[PC] Free - This War of Mine (Polish Language Version) @ Polish Government

2060

This game has been made available by the Polish government for education purposes.

This War of Mine is a unique video game about the fate of civilians trying to survive in a city engulfed by an armed conflict. It is characterized by extraordinary realism in depicting the gloomy reality of wars and uncompromising presentation of the morally and physically devastating fight for life. At the same time, interactivity, which is the domain of video games, allows you to look at difficult topics from the perspective of an event participant. This War of Mineprepared with attention to detail. The game is based on the analysis of a number of armed conflicts from the last few decades. Events such as the Warsaw Uprising, Szturm Grozny or the war in Syria were analyzed especially in terms of the fate of the civilian population. The process of creating the game also included research showing the impact of traumatic experiences on the psyche of adults and children. In turn, the eyewitness accounts of the siege of Sarajevo were the main inspiration for the creators.

    Interesting

Remember, when you start world domination

Czechoslovakia then STRAIGHT to Poland no matter where you are in the world

  • +5

    That's pretty cool.

  • +52

Poland has been super kind to my Ukrainian friends staying there as refugees at the moment. what an amazing country.

    • +6

      That's lovely to hear.

    • +17

Well if anyone knows how devastating war can be, it's the poles.

      • sounds like they expect to be next in line

        • +8

What exactly would you like me to substantiate? Modern Polish territory as we know it was often the middle-ground of Germanic / Soviet conflict - often divided as a frontier of contentious crossfire leading up to, and beyond WW1. Poland only became an independent nation in 1918, and most atrocities were committed by or a result of Soviet / Germanic control - and I don't really need to explain what Polish territory was used for thereafter. I'm not here to justify anything committed by anyone, I was merely stating that the Poles know what it is to yearn for refuge in another country. Stop making conflict where there is none.

    • +3

Let's not forget how they treated non-white refugees fleeing the same Warzone. This is not intended to discount the hospitality they offered white Ukrainians… But the fact of the matter is there was racism

      • +6

Hard truth is that people will preference like-groups in traumatic circumstances

      • +3

every country has its fair share of racists, morons, and run of the mill a-holes

white or not, war is bad, people needed shelter and got one, that's commendable. I don't think race had anything to do with it, I didn't get this kind of information you seem to have. my Polish friends were volunteers on the border, I never heard stories of wrong treatment of people of any skin colour.

      • +1

True. In my travels across many countries and continents, unfortunately, you can find racism in various forms almost anywhere if you want to. Some of the most amazing and welcoming places i've also found to have underbellies of what could only be described as racist if we are to hold each other to the same aspiring standards. We have a long way to go yet as a species.

      • +4

Sure, because there’s no agenda with what was publicised in our media. I take it you live in Poland on the border? This sensationalism of black brown vs white needs to stop.

      • +4

My black friend is Polish and he has told me horror stories of the racism there against POC. Well before the war or any "crisis". Not a nice place for dark skinned people.

        • +1

Unfortunately, I have heard a lot of stories about eastern Europeans being like that.

    • +3

Not so friendly when the Syrians were escaping war.

  • +2

would it have English language option?

    • +13

No language other than Polish. Well the installer language is Polish only. So yeah don't waste your time with this unless you know how to read Polish.

    • -3

Mate, St. Joe is off limits round these far left parts. So is satire and irony. Cue massive downvotes!

      • +8

Or maybe he is being 'downvoted' AKA negged for making lame jokes….

        • Or comments entirely irrelevant to the behaviour of Poles in the Polish nation?

  • +20

I've been putin off playing this game for too long.

    • +1

I saw what you did there, %username%

    • +14

I won't be russian in to play this one.

      • +12

not polished enough for you, perchance?

        • +8

If Ukraine your head a little to the left you can see it

  • +7

They totally should release a Russia/Ukrane update!

But This War of Mine is 10/10 amazing. Just be prepared to cry!

    • +1

IIRC the storyline is deliberately vague about the setting to make it feel like it could be anywhere. Not sure it would be improved by reducing the ambiguity.

  • +3

Is the game in English or Polish?

    • +11

seems like Polish Language only, unable to change other language in settings.

      • thanks

      • +2

What if you downloaded the enough language pack from elsewhere?

  • +4

A difficult but great game. Difficult to survive, difficult to not shed a tear. Because in war, not everyone is a soldier.

  • +8

I found that the installer is completely in Polish, with no way of changing the installer language.

And it wouldn't surprise me if the actual game language is completely in Polish.

  • +8

80% off sale, $5.79 on steam if you can't read polish.

This War Of Mine was also a previous free Epic Games giveaway back in late July 2019. Although it was just the original base game and not the later Complete or Final Cut editions.

      • The Final Cut Edition is on Game Pass too. Not sure about PC but definitely on Xbox

      • The EGS freebie had some Final Cut content, but limited to the base game itself (so only the DLCs were missing).

    • Maybe for you, Wardaddy

      • Obviously no one gets satire or irony these days.

        • difficult to understand the tone from text. That's why /s was invented

          • @starbearer: Even without "/s" makes complete sense IMO unlike the unthinking and anonymous (surprising that) neg nazis.

  • +1

    Great game! Great series too!

  • -7

Is this a propaganda game? Two sides to every story. Like how war has been going since 2014 thanks to a coup.

    • +4

imagine trying to 'both sides' polish history…

      • -3

Russia fought for Poland vs the Nazis in WW2 and lost 20 million men to liberate them and us. Now the Azov batalion in Ukraine are literal Nazis attacking Russians in eastern Ukraine since 2014 calling them subhuman. What's wrong with this picture?

        • +3

          Katyn

          • +1

@sh4wnc: Dude. I can’t even read about Katyn without getting seriously emotional. Just horrid

        • Literally clueless.

        • -1

Keep an open mind, the world isn't as simple as our media and govt wants us to believe.
For example, this guy lives there:

Russia did not fight for Poland.
They would have split it between Russia and Germany.

        • +1

          'Fought for Poland in WW2'…
You mean when they made a secret pact with the Germans to split all of eastern Europe between them with them getting eastern Poland? and when they invaded Poland two weeks after the German invasion was that also 'fighting for Poland'? Yes Eastern Poland itself was conquered by Poland in the 20s from the Russians and was predominantly Byelorussian and Ukrainian afaik but that just proves further that these two countries never fought for each other but against one another.

          • -3

@Ostrk: Russia did the heavy lifting vs the Nazis in WW2. Fact.
We had losses in the West and fought hard but nothing like the Russians suffered.
So yes the Russians were extremely anti Nazi and still are and this is the basis of this war that's happening right now.
The West were the provocateurs for this war, moving further to the East over time and goading the Ukrainians.

Your tax dollars are literally supporting Ukrainian Nazis for Nato expansionary objectives.

            • @trevor99: " Russia did the heavy lifting vs the Nazis in WW2. Fact.
We had losses in the West and fought hard but nothing like the Russians suffered."

IMO (with help from Joe) a lot of that was self-inflicted……….which in no way denies the Russian losses nor the importance of the sinkhole that the Easter Front became for the Nazis.

And remember who started The Great Patriotic War, before that there was happy fence sitting

Then there's the behaviour on the Pacific Front……….Berlin in '45…. the pause in Poland in '44

              Shed the rose coulured glasses

            • @trevor99: I never said they didn't? your claim is that because the Soviets almost single handily defeated the Germans and were 'extremely Anti-Nazi' (which wasn't even true since Molotov-Ribbentrop happened) that this somehow is the same as 'fighting for Poland to liberate them'? but you're completely ignoring the fact that the soviets invaded Poland WITH Germany and carved up the country with them in 1939. Stalin had no problem carving up half a continent with Hitler and supplying Germany with precious materials like wheat, oil & chemicals. If he was anti-Nazi then he would have never negotiated a damn thing with the Germans.

Poland literally ceased to exist as an independent state thanks to the joint invasion in 1939. When the Poles rose up in Warsaw near the end of the war, the soviets stood there and let the Germans decimate them and raze the entire city. How is this fighting for Poland again? Oh right, because at the end of the war the Soviets restored Poland. How kind of them…except that the government was loyal first to Moscow.

You can thank the soviets for almost single handily defeating the Germans & decimating Japan's war efforts in China thanks to their invasion of Manchuria in 1945 but Eastern Europe was NOT liberated by the Soviets. Instead Poland, the Baltics, Czechoslovakia & Albania turned into communist puppet states despite their people's wishes. These were not enemy countries to the USSR like Germany or Romania and yet they had their freedom ripped away.

              • -1

@Ostrk: Thanks, good reply. Stalin was a shocker killing all his generals and other officers before the war to protect himself via his own paranoia. Kind of didn't help when it came to defending the country.

These situations are complex and usually there are faults on both sides. My point our media paints us black and white rubbish and it translates into the average Joe's simplistic understanding.

It's easy to see the Russian position of defending themselves with this "de-nazification" action in Ukraine. They took abuse and suffered attacks since the 2014 coup and the Yanks have been ramping it up ever since. There was the so called Minsk agreement signed by Ukraine that the Russians tried for years to enforce and abide by but the West kept ignoring and violating. There is also the issue of the American funded bioweapons labs in Ukraine, where the Russians have since uncovered despicable research. Then there is the child trafficking etc. The Russian position is they are cleaning this up. It appears once Russians have removed the Ukraine Army from a town or "liberated" it, life goes back to normal so we should at least look closely at what they're saying.

                • @trevor99: Are you Russian by birth or family association ?
It seems that you have drunk deeply from the Russian Koolaid jug.

                  • -1

@King Tightarse: "Are you Russian by birth or family association ?
It seems that you have drunk deeply from the Russian Koolaid jug"

This is the simplistic thinking that I am referring to right there.
By the way I don't even know any Russians. Several generations Aussie.

                    • -1

@trevor99: Classic troll response right there.
Yes, Trev I have "simplistic thinking" not like you, old son. Right Trev? You have special access to the elite truth. Not like all of the normie dumbarses. Not you Trev. You Google differently. You are privy to the real truth that the sheeple just don't understand. Amiright?
                      Lol

  • amazing game… it really is…I would highly recommend this

  • +9

No. No I will not play this game again. The last and only time I did, one of my house hold got sick then died because it was too cold. The other member became depressed when this death occurred then became despondent. There was food right in the next room but he would not move. The next day he hung himself.

This does not match the American-square-jawed-one-man-army war simulation I am used to playing. This game is FAKE NOOZE!

    • +2

Maybe try playing the game again in the Christmas holidays, your housemates will be less likely to die from the cold in the summertime!

      • 🎶 In the summertime, when the weather is hot 🎶

For education purposes? To teach people how to survive under Russian invadation?

  • +3

    dziękiiiii

  • OOOH wow, they've been recognised by the government!

I mean, I've had this for years, and know it is as great a game as it is for traumatising me, but getting recognised by the government is a big deal! Congrats to them.

Ran the page through Google Translate, and it says this at the bottom:

The game "This War of Mine" is available only to students and teachers in Poland who want to use the game in Polish language, ethics or social studies lessons. Any further sharing, reselling, commercial use, or posting on file sharing sites is strictly prohibited.

So it's not really meant for us. Also only in Polish through this offer - can definitely get it in English if you get it elsewhere.

Amazing game though, and well worth a bit of money to experience. Just be ready for some heavy stuff.

  • I immediately thought of this war of mine when I heard stories of what was happening in Ukraine. Poor bastards.

  • English (multi language) version available cheap (from $7.85 for this and 2 other games) as part of this deal

Incredible game. Would recommend everyone plays this at least once if they think war is exciting or not.

Absolutely heart breaking .. just like real war.
Not a polish speaker so no point trying this link however the English version is worth getting.

    • -3

Oh? Have you been to real war?
