    • +1

I was just about to mention the mwave deal but you got here first lol.
I think they have 1 left in stock at this price.

    MKHD’s favoured device over S22…..

    • +1

Yeah I think he likes the X or Y(?) axis rumbling over the Z rumbling for notifications. Eccentric dude but hey it'll be a great phone, and for $1k? Sure.

    • -2

      Mkbhd is a crackhead

  • +1

RRP $1849? I just paid that for the S22 Ultra 512GB…

    • Where did you purchase the s22?

      • +1

JB HiFi. Sorry I double checked and it's $1899… haha

    • +3

      yea rrp 1-2 years ago

  • +2

At least this base model has 12GB of ram. Unlike the new S22 ultra base model…

    • True However 2100 VS 8 gen 1.

  • Snapdragon or Exynos?

    • Exynos

      • Damn, is it much worse compared to Snapdragon?

        • +4

Honestly though, I've used Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 on S22 Ultra and compare to this, performance gain are negligible, yes the synthetic benchmark may show performance gain but in terms of everyday use, they are not much difference, in fact I reckoned this Exynos has more power efficiency than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

          • @cloudie9: That's good to know. I read old discussions that camera processing might not be as good as the snapdragon and some apps are not as optimised but not sure if those have been fixed with updates

          • @cloudie9: Isn't the Exynos far worse than SD in terms of battery life?

  • For an old fella who basically just uses phone for internet browsing, photos and videos. Is there much benefit in upgrading an iphone X to one of these or just stick with what I’m comfortable with?

    • +1

The new iPhone 14 models appear to have a Max 6.7 size in the non pro model, if it’s size on the cheap (er) you’re interested in. Moving between OS’s is another discussion entirely.

    • +1

I'm a massive apple hater but honestly just stick witch the X if you're already on apple, it's more intuitive, especially if you're used to it.
The Samsung is better for a lot of stats but most of them will mean nothing to you and you'll probably get frustrated trying to learn a new way of doing things.
That said, Samsung's specifically are the easiest to use androids.

All depends on what you have now, and if you currently have any issues with it.

      • +2

Nah man, Pixels are the easiest to use Androids.

    • +1

The only benefit I see is that the cameras on the S21 Ultra are more advanced.

I would say stick with what you're comfortable with.
Even more so, if you have friends and family that mostly use iPhones.
It's annoying having to re-learn how to use another platform when it doesn't have any significant benefit to you.

Note: I use a Samsung myself but have had both brands previously.

    • +3

wait for the iphone 14 max. Should be up your alley. Switching OS if not good if you are not tech minded.

  • Thanks OP
    Excellent find

  • Is it just me or I don't see it. All the ultra s are 1.5k+

  • Was about to buy then it jumped back to $1800+ :(

  • How even. These were $699 last year. I got the 512gb for $1080

    • +1

where did you get it from? i don't ever remember these being $699

      • +1

he probably got it through the special Samsung trade in deals

        • +1

but then that doesn't mean its $699…that means its $699+ your traded in phone :-S

          • +1

@whitepuma: No because $699 is the price if you don't "return" a phone. If you actually sent a phone in to trade then it'll be cheaper.

            https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/672672

The best Samsung deals are always gonna come from the epp/gov portal when they stack trade in deals with 2 other deals. I managed to snag a tab S8 ultra for a little over $1100 just a few months ago lol

            • @krisspy: ?

              $699 is after $500 Discount + $500 Trade in bonus, $100 Loyalty, $50 Newsletter

If you didn't return your phone you should've paid $1199. Unless you claimed for trade in but didn't actually return the phone?

              • @aeoz: yeah. Don't return the phone and they'll charge your credit card the trade in value stated in the appraisal app (e.g. crappy $400 for a high end phone), then go sell it on eBay/GT for $600-$700.

              • @aeoz: That's the trick. Tell them you're trading a phone but don't send anything to them. If asurion doesn't receive your phone within a month or so they'll just charge you whatever discount you got based on the value of the phone. The discounts stay

I wish a flagship would offer all the features again.

I get it, cameras sell phones, but aux cords on road trips, and sd cards to backup "your life" (phone) are tools people still use everyday.

I suppose so long as a dongles DAC is premium, that can be made up for, but lots sound overly processed.

    • +1

A flagship did and no one gave a sh*t about it. Obviously there's a burning demand for those features.

      Experia 1 IV

      • Based on what sources?

Gsmarena search trends suggest the features are very wanted.

        • Based on sales, sure Sony's marketing may have a big impact on that, but no one is praising this phone to be the "one above all" despite having all those legacy features.

Not exactly sure why you complaining about the lack of 3.5mm Jack, type c still outputs audio. "Oh yoU hAvE To CarrY a dOnglE" no you don't, it's permanently stuck on your wired headphones. LDAC exists, people who want higher bit rates are using that. Every other Joe is using non reference gear with 128kbps Spotify, they'll survive on BT 5.1.

SD cards are not backups, unless you have duplicates of it. It's a cheap way to get a ton of storage. Type-c on the phone transfers data way faster than an sd card can. How many people need to hot swap an sd card like they would on an slr? Again, die hard enthusiast who need bottomless storage for uncompressed media have a pixel 1 for unlimited Google photos storage.

          • @krisspy: I think we just support a very different user base.
Practically all of my clients oppose all of what you've suggested.

The dongle thing is fine if you only carry one device, but if you have to carry a CB or make a lot of calls on a secondary work device (be it laptop, or 2nd phone) a dongle does become a hassle.

The duplicate of the SD card, is the phone storage.
Many industries to not allow the wireless transfer of certain data. Even encrypted, which is stupid, but the laws are the laws.

As I said, I think we just serve a different customer base.
