"Excludes any petrol outdoor power equipment" :(

    • "An EGO Dealer MAY choose to take back petrol products at their discretion."

Small sliver of hope….I'm assuming if you are getting a few things, they might want to seal the deal but I've got no experience. Maybe someone has done it before and can share?

My 25y/o Honda petrol mower died and I found this deal. Ego have certainly had better deals in the past but here I am in the present and this is as good as I can get :-)

Anyway, I dropped into Sydney Tools at Stafford QLD and the guy there seemed willing to take my old mower, but they didn't have the Ego model I wanted in stock. YMMV there.

I ended up at Trade Tools (a QLD-only chain) and their policy is to accept petrol equipment, so if you've got an old petrol clunker to get rid of they'll definitely take it away. Just make sure there is no petrol in the tank.

It also seems Ego have raised their prices in the last month or two for mowers, by about $50 - $100 depending on the model.

Sounds like you could grab a freebie that someone is giving away on marketplace because it doesn't work and trade it in

What a crap offer. Ego getting worse and worse.

with petrol prices the way there are, maybe it'll pay itself off quicker than you think?

      • maybe it'll pay itself off quicker than you think?

Not the way electricity prices are rising…

        • Unless there is a way to produce electricity at home for free? The name of technology escapes me……/s

      • Petrol tools use piss all fuel, all glorified battery tool ads just glorified the non-existence issue. I have both tools and spending more time recharing the batteries than filling up the can.

I like not having to deal with mixing (and purchasing) the fuel and oil for the mower and have enough batteries if one karks it mid-mow (which hasn't happened yet). YMMV

But don't have a huge yard (<250m2) and I'm not a heavy duty user. Did used my old mans 58V AEG chainsaw to break down the ornamental pear tree when I got a little too tipsy during a storm…..between two batteries, it was a cinch.

@PleasureMachine: and no petrol/oil/combustion fumes to breath in and less noise insult

            • @oraserat: You might be surprised that it's pittance compared to the amount of invisible pollutants you sniff in every.

          • @PleasureMachine: Who is mixing fuel for mower nowadays? Or you can't tell the difference between 4 stroke mower and 2 stroke handheld?

Congratulations you are officially the first person I've met that has used battery garden tools and "still prefers petrol". I personally can't comprehend that preference, but I knew there's be one out there

          • @isthisreallife22: Welcome, my honda mower still trumps through any grass, will not justify a $500 battery tool when that <$100 piece of dinosaur still refuses to die. I do have an ego trimmer and it's doing excellent job.

No cleaning, maintenance or stench, less noise

Any one of those alone is worth it to me, let alone together

    • Ego getting worse and worse.

Their Ego is getting the better of them…

Getting to be a dirty word @jv

It wasn't when I was Living in the 70's

  • Lol. Ego looking to shaft their customers.

The used ones sell for hundreds on marketplace.

I recently sold my broken ego mower with batteries for $200.

I hope nobody takes them up on this offer unless they want to get rid of an old broken unit.

I think you'll find they'll be targeting other or older cordless platforms and not cannibalising their own.

I have an old black and decker pole saw I'm considering to trade in.

  • I think you can trade in any brand and if it is stackable can maybe get a bunch of destroyed drills for close to free

    • Offer includes all cordless outdoor power equipment skin/bare units.

To me that would not include drills or the like.

Doesn't say anything about it being stackable, but I would doubt it would be allowed.

….but let me know how it goes.

  • I've got an ego mower already which is great, but I've been considering upgrading my ozito line trimmer to an ego.

If I can keep my ozito batteries and just trade in the skin, this should be a good deal for me?

    • Yeah I reckon. You can just trade in the skin from what I can read. Doesn't need to be a full kit that includes batteries. $50 discount and it'll be 56V. Probably overkill if the ozito is doing the job but it'll be a better unit than the Ozito. Get the multi-head unit so you can use the other accessories like the edger, pole saw, etc.

It's a pity there are no other battery redemptions at the same time.

  • as much as i love the ego gear that i have (mower, blower, whippersnipper, hedgetrimmer, chainsaw), the cost of battery failure looms outside warranty. i've had a 4ah battery fail after 2.5yrs- replaced by a 5ah battery under warranty which also subsequently failed after 2yrs. ego were gracious enough to replace the 5ah again but potentially that's a $349 replacement item ! And after 1yr again the 5ah battery so far has played up again randomly activating its thermal cut out even though on minimal load or battery bar rapidly decreasing but ejecting it from the tool and reinserting seems to reset the battery bar to its proper state.
