$22? It was $10 last time scoopon had this.

    • +4

It was through Groupon last time.

  • -6

    and not delivered too…

    • i rather they do not deliver , they f**up my delivery last time.

  • +1

Do you guys think it'll be $10 again in the future? Tempted to buy this since I bought the $10 one last time and it's going pretty good.

    • +1

Will be interesting to see how this scoopon deal goes, the $10 one through Groupon was a total sellout, if this scoopon one sells well, we may not see a Red Bull mobile deal as the higher priced deal may set price for future deals.

  • +5

Still a bargain @$22 but yeah bring back the $10 deal!

  • +1

does this have a 60 days recharge voucher? cuz i already with red bull

    • same here, anyone can confirm?

      • Called up RedBull, same deal as last time, credit is on SIM card and available to new customers only.

However maybe it's possible to transfer existing service to another provider, e.g. Woolies mobile, then transfer back to RedBull…

I guess back to Woolies for now :)

  • +2

I spent $10 and got the access 7 with free sim starter kit. The service was so bad I only used it for 3 days, It's not a bargain at any price if it will not work ! (I was using a phone that did support the new 850mhz network)

try it if ya want, but don't say you have not been waned

  • +1

Yeah beware. Esp if you are using the internet - its hard to setup (was using an android phone), and once setup, sometimes the internet would not work at all…

You get what you pay for!

    • +2

      Vodafone network…

    • initially the internet was slow, i wasn't aware they used proxy, but since i can change the apn, it work faster than my home broadband hahahh

  • +1

    whaaa, i want the 2 months @ $10!

or is the other $12 going to scoopon?

  • How long before this has the be activated?
(Travelling in a few months and the 8GB data would be useful)

    • Data(or the other unlimited) is only within Australia(will not be available if you are traveling outside Aus).

It has to be activated within 3 months.

  • +1

NO longer beats Woolworth's $29,45day-recharge voucher@1/2 price -10% discount (equated to $8.60/month) for Low calls customers, So no longer worth it at all. Booo…

    • Daver, if it is handy, could you direct me to how to get the 1/2 price part of the deal you mentioned. I get the rest, just not the half price part. Thanks!

      • +2

Doesn't beat finding $50 on the ground either ;)

      • -1

Woolworths had only advertised the temporary 1/2-off promotion/superspecial earlier this year, and also during late last year, but the promo by Optus (an accepted stronger network) ran for several weeks. :We stocked up on our SIMs+vouchers, which would see us through 3rd quarter '12.

Optus is welcome to bring back such deal again, but you can read how it went here http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/64395 as you can see, was verry well received.

    • +1

i think he is referring to a promo they had at the beginning of the year. expiry date is sep 2012 so people stocked up on lots of vouchers then

      • Yeah people like me. I bought enough vouchers to last for a whole year.

  • Does red bull have personal hotspot banned? Like optus

    • You mean tethering? Never had problems tethering with Android with Optus or providers using Optus. They may say that in the T&C but AFAIK it's not an issue. Don't know about Vodafone.

      • +2

"You mean tethering?" - No! 'tethering' is using a USB cable.

"personal hotspot" (aka: 'personal wifi hotspot') means having your mobile handset create a wifi access point to which it can provide a wifi connection with internet access to one or more other devices (802.11 b/g/n) eg. laptop/tablet/desktop/non-hspa-mobile/iPod etc.

        • Technically you are correct as the Android setting menu says Tethering & personal hotspot, but the question was really about whether you can do NAT on the smartphone, so I just call it all tethering, as personal hotspot is more of a mouthful.

I usually prefer to tether when I can; it charges rather than drains the battery, it just works straight off, and there is no question of anybody snooping on your session.

    • it is working now, though it was not working 1 month back( or it might be only me :) )

Edit: i used Nokia and Android

      • -4

Tethering does not work on iphone due to Apple restrictions. Also internet is a pain to get working on iphone, although there are some workarounds on Whirlpool.

        • -1

Jailbreak is your best friend for stupid Apple restrictions.

        • It's not an Apple restriction, the carrier settings file puts the restriction on .

        • -1

Tethering does work on iphone. (without jailbreaking or what so ever)
          PS. I use telstra network

        • +1

@Joel Yes, and who made that possible? :)

@Ilbe Provided that your provider allows it. In your case Telstra does for your plan.

        • +1

To those apple fan boys who negged me. Let me see you use Facetime without a jailbreak on 3G without wifi.. It works perfectly and flawlessly on 3G and i use it all the time. Oh did i mention that the only reason why Flash is not supported by the iphone is due to Steve Job's ego? Another stupid "restriction" by Apple amongst many others.

  • Last time I checked no tethering and doesn't work on all iphones. Only works on blackberry if your willing to forgive data services… :/

  • +1

it is a good price. But let me tell you, network is crap for data usage, phone calls good. you cant think of making the android hotspot ( I use samsung galaxy note). It disconnect as often as our eyes blink !!!

    • +1

      Yeah~
I had the same trouble. I used Huawei x3.

  • +3

I bought the $10 deal previously for the 8 GB of data. It is very intermittent and not at all reliable. Luckily I only use it to keep my emails up to date on the laptop I have at work but it would be annoying if I was to use this as my main data service. I have struggled to download more than 2 GB of the 8 GB in almost 60 days as the service times out. I also use a Telstra SIM in the Modem when they offer the starter kit for $10 at Woolies and that is a dream to use. You get what you pay for. The calls on the other hand are good value !!

    • +1

turn own your radio non stop, watch you tube, and download your movie to your mobile

  • +4

Red Bull uses the Vodafone network.
If you're using this for calls, it's an awesome deal.
If you're thinking of using this for mobile broadband, forget it.
Vodafone say they're upgrading their networks? Even their 3G is slower than Telstra's Edge (2G) network… and that's if you can get the blody thing working.

    • hmm not sure if thats true mate, i did speed test and i got 6.2Mbps, do you want me upload the picture of the speed test via 3g?

  • +4

I bought it in march through scoopon. Service is terrible in my area Northcote , vic.. Don't even bother with vodafone.

    • So in your area by 'service' you mean data or voice???

      • -1

        Optus=Strongest Network
Go with boost, means optus network, stronger receptions and no drama.
$40 unlimited per month but introductory starter pack with full month credit is $20.
        http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/70422

        • Try sitting on a train between central and redfern in Sydney. Optus is beyond CRAP there. And that is the fringe of the CBD.

      • I will make it clear for everyone !!

Wanna get this for data ? Don't even Bother as its very slow and not reliable at all.

Wanna get this for calls ? You may give it a try at your own risk. From my experience , Receiving calls in Melbourne CBD worked fine 75% of the time but Northcote,Preston, etc had been terrible for 2 weeks where I couldn't even make a single call which is clear. Now this week's been fine.

  • They are bragging about updating their network but I really fail to see it…

Optus sent me a letter not too long ago saying they have updated their towers and I noticed a substantial difference! Had 1 Bar with very little 3G in my office to now full bars with 3G. Vodafone haven't done squat IMO

    • Got a txt from Voda recently saying they are upgrading their access in my area… Whooppeeeee!!!… i'm going to get what i've been paying for (for 5 years +) NYET!

    • Vodafone invested nearly $1 billion in new infrastructure. It's all there to see in their financial statements. It's just that these changes take time to take effect.

  • I haven't received the Sim card since last $10 deal with Groupon. Don't know where to complain.

  • +6

To be honest guys, I think it's still a good deal purely for the voice calls alone.

Just think, you can now call girls on any network without looking like a cheapass! They'll think you're a highroller if they see that time spent talking doesn't phase you one bit ;)

  • good to make phone calls, that's it.

  • I bought the groupon deal in order to download updates for an old computer I rebuilt for a friend. Wifi is okay, but a little tricky to setup (need to setup proxy and delete your old apn). Tethering via usb worked much better. Email support did respond with a solution that worked to an issue i had in under 3 hours. Service has been upgraded in my area (mcleod) so calls and heaps of data are excellent value. Considering getting the acres 365 with spare crappy handset to avoid recharge hassle.

  • +1

BTW guys, I bought 365 dollars plan for a year with htc phone.
I am using it. Working fine for me.
Also, i recommended to some friends and 5 of them bought it and using it.

    • other friends may have reception problem..

  • -1

Can you print the same Groupon Voucher out 10x times and use the one Voucher, multiple times at different BP's?

You collect the Recharge from a BP petrol outlet.

Since BP staff print out the Recharges from the prepaid terminal device, just like a Virgin or Telstra Recharge, there is no "code" for the staff member to enter anywhere.

So you can SCAM this quite easily, by going to different BP's…

    • You're assuming it's a recharge voucher. I think it's more likely that you collect a SIM starter kit which is associated with your Scoopon voucher, either at the point of sale or later, online.

      • But it says: Collect from any BP!

        • Yeah so what? Servos do sell SIMs so they will have stock of them.

        • Oh ok didnt think of that

    • "Scoopon must be collected at the selected BP store by 4 July 2012 - go to http://mymap.co/bpau to find your nearest location and enter this location at checkout"

  • +1

I haven't even activated the $10 sim that I've purchased through groupon yet.

    • yep me too, but i just bought a bargain $10 motorola rokr from dick smith, comes with camera, bluetooth/streaming audio and mp3 player but it's only gsm so not sure if this sim card will work

  • +2

Telstra $30 Prepaid SIM Starter Kit $10 @ Woolworths is a better deal.
    cheaper, better coverage, with tethering.
    longer expiry too, Mar 2015.

$10/mth is the new max, standard, not $11 !!

    • At least you have more chance of using it.

    • -1

      Yeh .. previously they line up .. 10p/m-(voice+data) > 8.60p/m-(data+voice) > 5p/m-(flat.voice)
now VF tries overtake gang—$11/m (120% increase!)

      for goodness' sakes v/f-/RBM.

  • If you are off-specials, the Optus $2 Days are essentially $1 a day and its unlimited calls, text, data. Pay $30 for 30 days, $100 for 100 days.

    • +2

How's that? $2 per day that you use it AFAIK. $30 gets 30 days expiry, but only 15 days usage?

    • i don't see $1 day plan on optus anymore

  • How to enter the location correctly? l keep getting "Entered Location does not exist"??

  • Data and tethering don't work with iPhones. I asked their customer service why and they said it's got something to do with the purtona APN not being registered with apple yet…

    • +1

      go to whirpool :)

  • Ummm how come this is expired? The scoopon site still has 39 hours remaining…

  • This deal is still active - looking to buy it. Does anyone want to refer me?

  • Yeah the deal is active. It is not popular.

I've monitored the sales counter; very slowly - creeping up.

Said 500 sold 2days ago. 600 sold @30th May. Think its 700 at close.
    Australia wide.
    1/3rd of last time(Groupon).

    • Part of the reason is that it is a bit more expensive.
Also Amaysim and RedBull seem to pop up on these sites quite often - there's only so many SIM cards that people can buy I guess!
