  • Wow! Great price, I bought mine 6wks ago from Sony for $1995/-

EDIT - Checked records and it was on the 14th of June, so less than 4 weeks ago.

    • +20

I spoke with Sony support given that I purchased for $1995/- less than 4 weeks ago, turns out they do have price protection in place. The helpful support person has escalated my request to "head office" and if they are agreeable I will get a refund of the difference.

$159/- might be on its way!!!!

Thanks OP for posting this deal and bringing the price drop to my attention.

      • Would this void CR/SB cashback do you think (if you used)?

      • Price is currently showing $2,295 - you may need to offer them some money back. ;o)

  • $1 cheaper at good guys

    • +4

      Beaten by a dollar! :(

Sony is free delivery, or Good Guys is C&C. Whatever suits you best

      • +4

Get it at the Good Guys.
They have far better warranty when things go wrong.

        • Agreed! I bought the LGC1 from the good guys in April. It came with a massive scratch on the screen and they replaced it for me

      • +4

I wouldn't trust delivery from sony, might end up with a cracked or damaged oled with no recourse.

        • +2

You live in Australia with extreme consumer protections. There is no such thing as 'no recourse' here.

Even if they argue with you; you just mention 'Australian Consumer Law rights' and they'll change their tune.

@BradH13: Guess you haven't heard about Sony's awful support. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/698498?page=2

            • @brifog: I've had a good result from Sony support for a product received damaged before, but the actual carton was punctured so it was a bit easier to see what happened.

That being said; I'd be shattered at that example. Jeez.

    New a80k “55 is out now for $3899! 😳

    https://store.sony.com.au/television-OLED/XR55A80K.html#q=A8…

    • +1

What makes it worth twice the price?

      • +1

There will always be something new every year at RRP. 😃

      • Almost nothing, I’d wager.

        • Apparently the new neo panels LG uses in the C2. Bit brighter and viewing angles should be better, if not reflection handling as well if the C2 is anything to go by. But this is a bargain + Sony has better software and colour reproduction so I'm going for it :)

  • This or TCL c835?

  • +1

I have a very bright room (glass windows/doors all around except the wall the TV goes on). Are these bright enough and handle reflections well enough for a room like that?

    • +2

Ours is next to north facing glass doors and our old TV had heaps of reflections. This is much better. The A80J has a matt finish screen, and diffuses the reflections so they are less obvious and distracting.

We are very happy even with day time viewing.

    • +3

I got LG OLEDs in bright rooms. They DOMINATE it now. The technology has come far!

      Get this!!!

      • +2

Yeah I can have my C1 on in the middle of the day with the sun blasting through the window directly onto the glass and it’s totally fine.

        • +1

That's actually really helpful, this has near identical SDR and HDR brightness

    • +1

Just don’t watch movies with a lot of dark scenes during the day

  • +3

    This or LG C2?

    • +3

C2 would be a better buy for the same price- newer range, brighter panel (a bit), 4 x HDMI 2.1 ports, better VRR. That being said, this A80J is a ripper of a tele.

      • +2

        Gaming, LG.
        Film and TV, Sony.

LG is a better all rounder TV, though.

I just find it hard to accept two 2.1 HDMI ports from Sony in 2022. Especially if you have a non-HDMI 2.1 ARC sound device, as one of the 2.1 ports doubles as the ARC port.

Even if you don't care about the 2 missing 2.1 ports now, you probably will one day in the future.

        • +1

I would still prefer Sony TV for gaming as Truliminious Display makes your game look real specially if you habe a Sony PS4 or 5.

        • Sony has google andriod tv which is superior to LG’s webOS

          • @Griffindinho: Yeah webOS is fairly crap, tbh. But if you care too much about software get an external device.

          • +1

@Griffindinho: I completely disagree. I've used both a Sony with Android and an LG with WebOS and WebOS is significantly more refined, user friendly and efficient. The Sony was a really unpleasant experience. I really don't understand why people think Android is a good TV UI.

            • @Karfaffel: Because it supports more apps? Also depends on your tv. Mines been fluid and responsive.

  • +2

So $1836 for a 55" but double the price for the 65"?
    :(

  • bought an LG C2 55-inch last night, after Shopback cash back cost around $2000.

  • +1

Is this good for watching regular tv shows? I mostly watch the news and footy, cricket etc

    • +1

Yes definitely, especially night footy and BBL looks like real life!

    • +4

Bit of a waste in my opinion. OLED shines with movies and some of the more cinematic TV shows with HDR/Dolby vision.

It won't look any better than a LED TV of equivalent quality when it comes to watching sports and news etc. This is still a great price though.

      • Sport looks way better on an OLED panel imo, much the same way Plasmas were better for Sport.

    • Just like my boomer parents but replace the sport with british tv commercial garbage on foxtel.

  • +4

feels like getting kicked in the face seeing all these OLED prices this year after buying LED last year, jealous of all of you new adopters of OLED tech!

    • I think the real kicker is how much cheaper led is going to get.

      • +2

Still wont make it look any better.

  • Does it have matte screen or gloss?

    • Semi-gloss. I haven't seen matte used? Plain gloss are the ones with the more aggressive reflection attenuation, but you can see objects reflected clearly on it like glass when the screen's off.

  • -4

    55s are tiny

    • +2

The obsession with screen sizes irks me; it has literally everything to do with your viewing distance. An 85" is going to be a horrible experience if you're sitting 3m from the TV.

  • +2

Checked last night and price was as you posted. Checked again this morning and now it's $2,295.

  • +1

where did the $1,836 price go? Both Sony and GoodGuys are over $2200..

    • +1

      Deal is dead 😞

      • thanks Penny

  • Does OLED really make a difference? I mean if you got a LED or whatever other tvs out there, would you be really care the difference? I mean most tvs are pretty good quality nowadays..

    • well it's literally the best view experience available. It produces the best "pop" with the infinite contrast and black colours. You really have to see it in person.
