That colour… good security feature I guess

    • +2

I would spray paint it black.

      • +10

I see girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes…

        • +4

I have to turn my head until my darkness goes.

    • Topcoat with some hot pink pearl.

Pink pearls on aqua basecoats look great.

  • +1

Not the design and colour I expect when I see electric bike.

  • +1

Oh, I'm tempted. Does anybody have any reviews for the bike?

    • Some reviews on Kogan itself. I couldn’t find anything else unfortunately

  • +1

Got to be a mistake. The Fortis 700C hybrid looks interesting though. Do they ever have big specials on that?

    • +1

Steel frame, probably steel wheels, lowest-end Shimano wheelset, it looks barely a bike to me.

Buy something second hand on Gumtree or FB marketplace. Can get a much better deal.

      • +1

He means the eBike, not the $99 steel bike.

It has the same 8Nm motor as the above bike so not good, and a 7-speed freewheel is not great.

  • +16

I'd get bashed riding that around Broady…

    • +12

      Only if they caught you

    • +9

Being Kogan, I think it would collapse under it's own weight before you left your driveway.

  • +13

    FIXED
    *I'd get bashed around Broady.

  • +1

Buy it and paint it black?

    • +5

With some red and orange flame decals and throw on the motorcycle club leathers and you'll own Broady

      • But then you'll get bashed by POPO.

  • With a few modifications it won't look like an eyesore.

    • +31

Yeah, streamers on the handlebars will fix it

      • +1

Plus spokey dokes to pimp the ride

        • You all forgetting the ultimate modification of cool…….. the playing card.

  • Cant get it to add to cart?

  • +2

They were $399 based on the reviews. So this is a decent discount. Unlikely a price error…

    • White is $969 though? Seems strange it’s just $299, very low priced.
      https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/fortis-26-36v-city-breeze-ladie…

Edit different model (I think different wheels)

      • +1

The white one has disk brakes and gears. You might be able to ride it as a bike, but the aqua/teal one doesn't look it would be much chop.

  • +1

99% sure its price error. If not, its extremely good price - below cost price.

    • Get in and score free Kogan credit when they cancel

      • +1

I dont' recon you can get it. It just hangs when adding to your cart.

        • I ordered one (had Kogan credit from credit card)

          • +1

@fozzie: Tried laptop (chrome and safari) no go. Phone doesn't work. My missus tried using her phone, no go either?

          • +1

@fozzie: Good luck, hope they honor it.

    • +1

there is a review which says "please sell it again for 399" so that is not far off this advertised price, is this really a price error.

  • +5

Not a price error according to the site
    Kogan first price $299
    Standard price $749
    Standard Retail Price $1,169

  • +3

    The battery is worth $200

    • +1

I can think of cheaper ways to burn your house down

  • +1

Save an extra $450 on this order with Kogan First

It's $350 inc delivery. Are they going to pay me $100 to take it?

  • +1

    Amazing prize for a 36v 10A ebike.

Bought one just for the helluvit, even though paying $29 for delivery even after my annual Kogan first subscription made me feel a little dirty…

    • What browser etc? Just hangs for me.

      • +18

        Chrome.

I love the way they call a bright blue bike with a basket and pannier a "Unisex e-bike" on their summary page.

By "unisex" I can only presume they mean that if you've already had one sexual partner before buying this bike, you're unlikely to ever have another…

        • +6

          How progressive of you

        • Basket sold separately

    • I did the same yesterday but just cancelled my $299 order, as I saw its just pedal assist no throttle.

  • +3

i mean it is a budget bike
but for $299 with a battery you cant complain

    • +1

Who are you, and what have you done with Drakesy?

      • Fair

  • +7

    Motor Torque (Nm) 8

Wow, that’s a weak motor. To put it in context, the lowest spec Bosch or Bafang motor provides about 40 Nm, with the better motors providing about 80 Nm. This 8 Nm motor will not have enough torque to go up even the gentlest of upward slope. However, at this price, you are paying for the battery and getting a free bike with it.

    • +1

I have the kogan foldable fortis and it works ok with slopes.

      • +1

the smaller the wheel, the lower the final gearing which makes it better for slopes.

    • But what exactly is the battery good for, if that's really what you're getting for the price?

    • +8

The gentlest of upward slopes… my arch enemy.

    • +1

      Hard to believe that's correct.

My Lietner has an 80Nm XOFO which I absolutely love. At one tenth the supposed power, this thing wouldn't get out of the driveway. Although to be fair, the Leitner was more than four times the price…

Some online video reviews show this bike moving along at a fair clip, so I'm dubious about it only having 1/10th the power.

Will be interesting to compare the two once it arrives…

    • +2

Hmm, the 8Nm seems very low.

The average person standing on the pedals would produce around 100Nm, but at a slow rate RPM.

There must be more to it (ie revolution speed, brushless etc). 8Nm doesn't seem enough to move it on the flat?

    • +2

8Nm is 24N at the tyre. It will barely move on a 3% slope.

But you'd need to be doing 36km/hr to get 240W from 8Nm. Those specs do not add up. 468W max!?

    • +1

I have the bike and think it works fine on a gentle upward slope though I'm fairly light and fit so cant say for someone heavier. Good for the price - I got it recently on an eofy sale.

      • Cheers, what about steep slopes plus pedalling? Was going to get one for the other half (as she can't pedal around here due to it being quite steep. Was hoping this would provide some pedal assist, but 8Nm doesn't sound much.

        • +1

It's got 3 levels of pedal assist so just set level to high to go up steep slope. If starting climb with any speed most slopes should be fine. Might be more difficult from a standing start.

      • How much do you weigh?

        • ~60kg, I only use the lowest level most of the time, only gentle hills in my area

  • +1

It's about $298 too much for the quality you are getting.

  • +1

    Thanks OP, ordered

  • Does this have a range?

    Fuel is so expensive,

    • +2

Typical 36v 10A batteries average between 20 and 50km range, depending on which level of pedal assist you use.

  • how much would it cost to get this painted black ?

    • +1

      DIY?

    • +3

Spend $15 on a spray can of epoxy black, $5 on masking tape, grab some old newspapers as masking paper.

    Unisex & Ladies

Glad they didn't forget about women when creating a product for people of either gender…

  • +3

the the motor is tiny and it's only a single speed.
it's will only be good for very flat paths

  • +19

The pro is you're paying $299 for around $400~500 worth of ebike. The con is $400~500 of ebike is still, politely speaking, pants.

With this being single speed with a hub motor, it will struggle going up hills negating one of the benefits of an ebike in the first place. Perhaps thats why it is spec'd with 26in wheels to lower the final gearing, but I can't see how the motor can both reach 25kmh on flats and be of any use on hills more than 3-5% gradient.

The front brakes are V-brakes, fairly outdated, but if we put that aside I don't even see V-brakes in the rear which suggest they might be drum brakes. You are going to have a hard time getting those replaced although arguably they can last the life of the bike.

Which then leaves us with the value if it is parted out. The battery, controller & motor is probably be worth the $300 alone, which is essentially what you are buying here. But to harvest the hub motor you will most likely need to rebuild the wheel.

I guess this is okay to get someone into bike riding on dedicated cycleways seeing you are getting the frame, wheels etc for 'free', but it won't be useful anywhere beyond that IMO.

    • +2

      You got a chop shop?

    • Thoughts on the 8Nm..seems 5 x lower than a low end ebike? How much is involved in tweaking the controller? or do you need to buy a different one..and therefore might as well pay more for a better bike in the first place/

    • Perhaps order one and replace hub motor with something more 'beefy'?

Also, any way to get free delivery on this? As it's showing $90(!) delivery fee for me.

    • -2

Rear brakes are not disc brakes. They're the same set up as the front.

      • +2

I didn't say they are disc - I said I believe they are drums. The front is V-brake, and the rear is drums - ancient tech. Zoom in on the 3rd photo the brake cable is going into the hub. Drum brakes are integrated into the hub itself.

        • +1

My bad. Read drum as disc

    • I got this for $299 but was thinking of parting out the e-bike kit to my existing hybrid bike, just wondering if a local bike shop could do that for me, and if its worth the effort?

      • +1

IMO its not worth the effort. My reasons are:

        1) It might be hard to find a bike shop that's willing to do custom work on BYO parts - from a safety standpoint they need to stand behind parts & labour, and in this case, the parts from their perspective are from an unknown origin. They are busy as they are with servicing their own sold bikes.

        2) The hub motor is an all-in-one unit of motor, drum brakes & single-speed freewheel. It likely won't be compatible with disc brakes or a cassette.

        3) Rebuilding a wheel is a fairly big effort. You need to source a rim, spokes whose length matches the hub & rim, and someone to spend at least 1-2hrs lacing up & truing the wheel. Most bike shops are focused on standard servicing, assembling new bikes or replacing bolt-on parts. Wheelbuilding is usually in the realm of enthusiasts so it'd be a premium in labour.

        • Cheers mate!

  • Ordered one to see if its pe

  • Thanks OP ordered one

  • +2

Maybe it comes in a miniature size?

    • Lol

  • Ordered one thanks

  • +9

I have this bike - paid double the price only a month ago so my timing sucks lol. Things to note: bike comes in a box. It's a PITA to assemble - took me half a day (first bike assembly though). Maximum weight limit is around 90kg. Only pedal assist so you can't sit there, twist throttle and expect to go anywhere. If you stop pedalling the motor turns off. Speed cuts out at 25 km/hr. Has 3 levels of pedal assist so just turn up level to go up hill.

    • so how much faster does it help you go, just by feel. Compare to if it wasn't there?

      • +4

Depends on assist level. I usually set to medium and feel like it's double my normal speed. At high level it reaches 25km/hr too quickly so it cuts out, so pedalling more does not make you go faster.

        In my opinion:
        Low-50% faster
        Medium-100% faster
High-25km/hr (engine cuts out - I only use this to go up hills or just to start)

        • and how many km would you say it goes on a single charge?

          • +3

@ChikenMiester: I could easily get 50km out of one charge - mostly flat/downhill though. Bear in mind it's pedal assist not full electric so you're doing half the work.

  • ordered one for my mum

    is this basically it?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PeOL7chHQ3s

    • +1

I don't think so. That one looks like it has a throttle. This one is pedal assist only.

      Shape is same though

  • Thanks, just ordered one too.

  • Thanks OP just snuck in before it expired and grabbed one

  • +1

    it says promo ends 17/7
