  • I have the XM4, should I upgrade?

    • +6

      previous feedback suggests no

    • +3

Probably not "enough" of an upgrade to do it. The NC is much better though from the tests I seen and tested at the Sony Store. More microphones to pick up ambient noise and better for voice calls (which is primarily what I will use it for work calls/meetings).

      should I upgrade?

      I think you should resign

    • +1

I wouldn't. At the very least wait another generation or two.

These are an improvement over the XM4, but not enough of an improvement to justify the cost of a new pair. Now, if you had a pair of XM2s or XM1s I'd say go right ahead, if you're in the market for a new pair of headphones. But my XM2s are going strong still so I don't really have any reason to upgrade.

      • thanks everyone. I might wait for next gen one. Just watch some reviews and it's a shame not being able to fold like Xm4

        • +1

Yeah, I was pretty disappointed in that myself, but I guess Sony saw the popularity of the Bose and the Airpods Max and realised people want a fancy metal design more than they want folding. It's a shame, but not the end of the world.

  • Patiently waiting for sub $400 -

Still pissed off my OG bought on release WH1000 band snapped at the hinge recently.

I’d rather get the AirPods Max when it comes below 600

    • -1

Not sure why you are getting negged, the AirPods max are a step up from these (except for ANC), and are made of high quality materials with an emphasis on sound signature. The XM series are made for ANC, and really should be priced closer to the $350 mark, which is probably what they will be down to in a few months. This seems a pretty bad price for these headphones.

For anyone with GGC, this product is $386

    • +2

Post that asap. That's a steal

    • +4

I can't find these headphones under GGC. Could you link please?

      • +1

Also can't see them at GGC

        • +1

          $433.65 from JB corporate

    • Wow! really? jeez.. How can get GGC?

    • Can you please share the product name? Couldn't find it.

Above is the quote I got from them. I decided not to get them as the earcups were pressing up against my pinna in an uncomfortable fashion.

      • Awesome, thanks for sharing. If they were pressing on your “pinna” I think you may have been wearing them wrong….

  • The XM5 has shallower earcups and more perceived ANC cabin pressure than the XM3/XM4.
If you are sensitive to that you should stick with XM4.

Other than that the XM5 should be an improvement in most other areas, such as no more cracking headbands and hopefully no more water droplet build-up in the earcups.
I also recall watching a video review with the XM5's microphone quality demonstration, the XM5 sounded very clear and comprehensible. Quite a contrast to the garbled sounding voice from the mic on the XM3/XM4.

  • Thanks - ordered with 28 degrees MC, will claim price difference when it goes on better sale.

  • They haven’t shipped it to me yet from the last deal

    • Really? You should chase it up with them then. I already have confirmation it's sent and I ordered this morning.

      • Yeah I chased on eBay messages no response

        • Did they send you an email to let you know which store will deliver it? You can contact that store specifically on questions.

          • @bchliu: No I didn’t… now I’m getting pretty worried

            • @gungirlyuna: Use eBay and chase it up that way. I just received mine today even though the originating store was in Victoria and I am in Sydney. Good luck in tracking it down..
