Same deal as last time but 0.05 more expensive. Bargain since it has not been affected by hyperinflation since last month

Additional batteries on sale by VARTA but not certain if I would exactly call it a bargain

Something something eneloop something ladda something.

Yes, rechargables are better for the environment. But there are some situations where alkalines still make sense, e.g. in an office where you have staff who don't know the difference between a nimh and nail who just want to swap the batteries in their mouse, or that pepper grinder that works better at 6V rather than 4.8V, or that clock that lasts 5 years on an AA.

Varta is only the name of them, as reviews show they are made in Malaysia even if advertised as made in Germany

  • Get an alkaline battery recharger and then these are as good as Eneloops….

    • Even virgin alkalines are leaking like 30% of the time in my experience. I advide everyone against recharging them.
For years I was obsessed with recharging alkalines. Was trying to find the the rechargeable alkalines but all seamed to have been discontinued. I even researched and built my own charger. Bottom line is it's not worth it in any way, especially now that 1.5v li-ion AA cells are available (I have some and its the Holy Grail ive been waiting ~15years)

      • Just avoid Duracell and you'll be fine. You can recharge normal alkaline batteries with a special charger. One of the leading chargers was actually designed here in Melbourne probably 20yrs+ ago

Those mini cans of Bundaberg Ginger Beer suddenly got smaller and taste different.

I was using rechargeables in everything but find that some things eg phillips hue motion sensor rechargeables just don’t work well. Now I use rechargeables in some items eg kids toys/ Xbox controller and alkalines in items that need a more consistent voltage.

  • FYI the Varta's on sale from Amazon UK are the "Power on Demand" version. They aren't as good as the "Longlife" versions sold in Bunnings in 24 packs.
