lightning deal, 11 hours to go, spotted when was checking out the latest (expired) controller only deal.

within line of the previous pricings - been following the price trends for a few months now and doesnt seem to dip below this without stacking cb/discounted gc.
MS store on ebay has been out of stock for over 4 weeks now easily.

seemed to get some good feecback last time here

Yes you can use usb cable, yes you can use bt, but dongle supposed to be better latency (if that's really a big issue?), in general reportedly superior connection with low to no drop outs (ymmv) - and allows for 3.5mm audio handover from pc -> controller with wired headset. Someone also said it enables rumble too but others say BT supports this too? I also expect the dongle method would use less power (but not much, plus are you REALLY an ozbagainer if you are not SWIMMING in eneloops, scrooge mcduck style?

  • Waitlist for the Controller only at $62.95 again - damn, missed it :(

  • +1

Think I'll stick with the dongle less deal. It'll be my first Xbox controller so not sure if I'll even like it

    • i have an ancient xbone controller (1st gen) so this is a no brainer for me

      • I have a wired Xbox 360 controller. One of the best controllers I've had. I still prefer the Dualshock configuration though. I can use them natively in Steam, which is nice.

  • +3

$25 for the dongle. Nah, bro.

    • rrp 29 for dongle, and i wanted that 62.95 deal so it's a win win for me.

but u right fam, it aint for everybody

      • I shit on the dongle but I always use the dongle when I have the choice to.

  • Never had a problem using PS5 controls on my pc via Bluetooth. Hope the $63 Xbox control I got works fine too. Or do I cancel and get this instead damn it

    • +1

worst scenario you can use a usb c cable :D

      • +6

One of my kids managed to trip over the cable of an Xbox elite control while it was plugged into my pc. Destroyed the USB ports on both the control and the pc and somehow killed the motherboard too. After that trauma I try to stay mostly wireless for everything as the missus won’t let me get rid of the kids which would be the cheaper option

        • +2

          broooooooo

        • Some final destination vibes right here.

    • It'll be fine.

    • When I first got one of these controllers approx a year ago the BT was really flaky, then I realised that I needed to connect using USB-C cable to apply firmware update, has been rock solid over BT ever since doing the firmware update.

Instructions on firmware update for controller is here - https://support.xbox.com/en-AU/help/hardware-network/control…

    • dongle is worth it just for headphone jack

  • I have the dongle and I always just end up using a cable anyway. So much easier when you can just keep it plugged into your PC and it's ready to go whenever you start a game. Don't need wireless when you're 0.5m away from a port

    • +1

my media pc is a good 5m+ away… but you right. If you're at your desk, a cable is the no brainer true ozbargainer solution.

      • Depends on the setup I guess :)

    • Do you bother with batteries then if you're connected via cable?

      • It still needs batteries, but I assume it lasts way longer because it uses power from the PC as well?

  • I should have waited. I wanted the dongle :(

    • just get this then return the other

      • I got it last week and have been using it. Will a refund still work?

        • oh…

maybe not - but amazon returns are pretty damn lenient….

    • -1

Did you order the one today? Has it seriously already shipped?
Damn, they're slow with my orders.

      • Ordered last week and got it the same day. Expect shipment to be slow due to prime sale.

        • my one arriving monday - that is crazy slow for amazon standards

  • I use the xbox controller at a 4m distance from the PC on my LG TV. For me the dongle was a game changer to prevent disconnect and remove annoying leads.

  • How’s this for Nvidia Shield TV

  • Confused on how the batteries work.

From what I understand, out of the box the XBOX controller just uses AA batteries (or whatever type)? The rechargeable battery is an accessory?

Then I guess if you are using a USB C cable to play, it won't charge the battery unless you have the rechargeable battery accessory?

    • you are mostly correct, except that it will only run on either 2 AA batteries, or the rechargeable battery pack.

you can't charge the AA battery by plugging in USB C, you need a batter charge station like eneloop one. Rechargeable battery pack however, will charge if you plug in the usb c while playing.

best way to go about it is to buy eneloop rechargeable batteries + recharge adapter since you can use the AA batteries for other things.

    • use aa, i use eneloops (probably had them for like 10 years now…)

  • can't comment on the state of Bluetooth support other than that it has gotten better, but if you want zero issues then dongle is the way to go.

If you go dongleless for use with PC, just be prepare to run into hitch ups.

  • Dang what's the go with these Xbox controllers? Sold out everytime.

    • They have been out of stock for a while now (even at full RRP) so I guess everyone is jumping on to get it at a good price.

    • Can be used on Xbox and works well on Pc. So you have 2 platforms.

    • Gamespass brahhh

  • I just want one for the kids to play the xbone

I have already purchased the standalone controller from the other deal and I have the old version of the wireless adapter (which I sometimes use as it works fine with Bluetooth) and yet I am still thinking about this deal. I should just save myself the $25…

And just in case people don't know, you can now pair a controller to a console (or PC via the wireless adapter) and another device with Bluetooth at the same time. Just switch mode by double clicking the sync button on the controller.

    https://www.howtogeek.com/713207/how-to-sync-your-xbox-contr…

    • Omg! Thanks for this info. I have been struggling with this the whole time. I had to manually turn my PC or Xbox (multiple times since it turns on) off everytime I have to switch. They could have made this easier with a dedicated button though or use the menu button single press for this purpose.

    • Thanks, didn't know can do that.

  • I use an old Xbox 360 controller for PC gaming and lately have found myself wanting more precise analog stick inputs playing racing games, including F1 22.

I know that a steering wheel setup would be a huge improvement, but I suspect that I'd use it for 3 months and then store it away to collect dust.

How much of an improvement would this controller be over an X360 controller for analog stick input in racing games?

    • i have an old 360 controller and and OG xbone controller and I cant say i noticed any real difference between the two sticks…

      • Thanks for the feedback, saves me $90!

  • Wait, using the dongle will enable rumble on PC? And I can connect multiple controllers via a single dongle? Why am I only just finding out about this haha. Does anyone else have any experience with this?

Also, I think one of my OG xbox controllers that came with my original Oculus Rift had a dongle (no bluetooth), I assume this is referring to a newer dongle though?

  • So annoyed, order arrived and it was just the standard controller with no wireless adaptor.

    • +1

Dang that’s going to be annoying … at least it should be obvious fix for amazon

      • Only option seems to be to return the controller and get a refund? I can't seem to find an option to request the adaptor.

        • +1

Yes this is the fix but at least Amazon should make it relatively painless and quick.. unless they accuse you of trying to scam them..

    • Got mine today, was the controller with adapter

    • Same thing happened with me. Got the white controller, no wireless adaptor. Contacting their support now to see if I can actualy get the correct item shipped out. Will update with results.

      • Update to this; was able to get them to credit me the difference of the purchase as this time ($199). Just be persistent.
