      differences?

      • +1

        The RT-AX55U seems to have a better CPU being quad core vs dual core. Might be better as the main router, with RT-AX53Us as mesh nodes/access points.

          From the wiki it seems AX55U has a USB port and an extra LAN port.

          • +1

            @binary101: Nvm about the CPU. Looked at the wrong Google result.

          • @binary101: the AX55 without U = no USB port
            whilst this AX53U = USB port

            AX55 = 4 LAN ports
            AX53U = 3 LAN ports

            so AX53U scarified a LAN port for USB port?

            • +1

              @davidl2: oops, my bad. Yea its either 1 USB port + 3 LAN or 0 USB and 4 LAN ports

    • Yeah but this one is down $70… that one is down 40

    Also the Xiaomi AX3000 but this seems like it's just the normal price for $99.
    See here.

    Anyone have suggestions on these 3? I want an AX router for PCVR with the oculus Quest 2.

    • sadly the price is now $109 :(

      I came here to comment about this… thanks!

  • Apologies if this is a dumb question, but i want to improve my xcloud performance to my phone (Galaxy S21) and tablet (latest ipad & mini). I currently have a telstra smart modem gen2 which is surprisingly good for day to day stuff, but i get terrible xcloud performance. I have good internet generally speaking (100mbps HFC nbn). Just wondering if a step up to a router like this is the logical one? We have a pretty compact, single storey home and im going to be within 8 metres or so of the router when playing. Thanks!

    • One way to find out…and that's to buy it and test it.
      To answer your question though, the Asus will probably be better. I've been using an RT-AC66U for years and it outperforms any ISP modem I've ever had. I've considered buying one of the new Asus' in the Prime sales, but I can't really justify replacing the one I've got. I previously also trialled a Netgear D8500 (which was worth around $800 when it came out, although I didn't pay for it), and I still went back to the RT-AC66U.
      IIR the Telstra modems are made by Technicolor. There's nothing wrong with them but they are designed as cheap throwaway things, nothing near top of the line.
      Just bear in mind to keep the Telstra modem as it's got your 4G backup, just in case :)

  • Another noob question here. I'm on VDSL+ (I know right..) and using an old Netgear D6220 router. 5Ghz cuts out close to the end of my house and 2.4ghz goes down to 3mbps. So was thinking of getting the Tenda Nova MW6 but instead got this: https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B07SDXMV94/ref=ppx_yo_d…

    Would that actually help in getting better servers for online gaming? The biggest issue is my connection to South Africa and my ping being 300-500ms (300 when we are connecting to some EU servers and 500 when it's actually local South Africa servers.) Not sure if it's worth the price tag and I honestly doubt it will improve on the latency, else I might just grab the one the OP listed.

    • If you live in Australia and are trying to connect to local servers overseas, there's not much that will be able to help reduce latency as the distance is simply really quite far. Most of the latency will be coming from your connection to your ISP and then their connection to the rest of the world, which is something out of your control. I'm not sure what the Asus ROG game radar fetaure is but to me it sounds mostly like either of these routers will be sufficient. I'd personally go for the AX router because if you have a wifi 6 card in your PC it will very slightly reduce your latency (to the router) and if you use ethernet then no difference.

        Okay from some light research the fetaure that supposedly reduces ping is basically that the router has built in "WTFast" support. Which is a service you can get even without a special router. To me it is unclear if the service comes free with the router as it is a paid service. Look up some more info on WTFast, Mudfish and PingZapper they all aim to reduce gaming ping. Just know you don't need a special router to use them but if it comes free it might be a selling point :)

      • Thanks for the reply. I also think its just an issue with the distance. Was hoping that this gaming radar might be something where it routes it better and possibly connect to a better path to servers. Will be happy if i can get it to 200 to 250 even. Else no benefit in buying abother router and can just use a mesh on my existing crappy netgear lol

        • +1

          Yeah so those services I listed basically act as VPNs and supposedly have superior routing to gaming servers so in theory they could reduce your ping outside of your home network! My recommendation would be to look into the free trials from each of them and try it for yourself on your current home network. Could try it immediately and then you can decide if it's something that will work for you

  • is this an huge upgrade to Tenda MW6/MW3 Mesh system?

    or should I get a Xiaomi AX3000
