if you want to use homeassistant, avoid tuya devices.

      But why tho?

cloud integration is slow and requires you to refresh the keys manually every few weeks, local integration is annoying to set up and unofficial, I don't like having everything in my home connected to a Chinese cloud (not stereotyping, but china has some strange laws for data privacy). Local network options like Zigbee, zwave and the wifi ones (tasmota, esphome) are much better

Ah thanks for the heads up. Started dabbling into home assistant and was looking at some Tuya devices. Any recommendations for led strips for under the cabinet?

@No Child Support: ws2812b's (can get from eBay in varying densities and lengths) & ATHOM WLED controller (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003776848515.html), they are 5v led strips and insanely bright. The WLED controller is fully local and open source and works very well with homeassistant. They are a little more expensive than other options but look amazing and work very well.

            • @Leho: A similar price to the Athom controllers are the Gledopto units, if you wanted a zigbee option instead. They are recognised by the Hue bridge too, which is a bonus, but work fine standalone in HA with something like the Conbee.

Localtuya works perfectly and is fast. A bit of a pain to set up but will worth it for the price of tuya based devices.

Zigbee is best though. But that's the beauty of HA you're not locked into anything.

          • @NigelTufnel: I picked the Aqara one that uses ZigBee and have been really happy with it.

Tuya devices are way cheaper to avoid. I been using them for while and no issues with refresh the keys with HA
If you haven't noticed, most known brands they rebrand Tuya devices.

My only issues with them, when they accidently goes into reset mode.

zwave is good but way over priced.

Chinese cloud (not stereotyping, but china has some strange laws for data privacy)

Just put them behind the firewall with fake account.

Thanks @Leho, avoiding being tied to cloud services is exactly what I am try to do. Saved me a useless purchase.

Any recommendations for a Zigbee like version? I wouldn't mind one I can use with something like these blinds https://www.spotlightstores.com/blinds/roller-blinds/gummers…

I assume something like this; https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002954586484.html (this one is technically tuya but if you use a zigbee stick like the sonoff one, it disables the tuya integration, so it's just local). I don't really know much about smart blinds but all it really has to have is a motor that can hold and twist the beads 🤷‍♂️

Would recommend direct drive (tube) over the ball chain drive one (like this one).

I have some Tuya switches I've flashed Tasmota onto. Can these be flashed, maybe?

    • Yeah these days I want things that I can send commands to myself, with something like Tasker. I've looked into setting up IKEA devices with Node Red, but just don't have the time for it these days.

  • A$87.88 is without the solar panel right?

    • Yes you are right.

      OP is fake nooz!

  • imagine trying to fit this to your blind.

    • I have two blinds with a couch right up against them so the wires disappear behind the couch. I can't imagine installing the solar panel neatly though!

    • Okay…wow….that is amazing.

      • I have an Aqara E1 (Zigbee) that has a battery in it and that will last 3 months up and down each day. I can't imagine a solar panel either.

OP you're bait and switching us bro.
You're promoting the solar panel version on this post for A$87.88 + A$4.50, which is incorrect. Solar panel version comes out to AU$115.21 with coupon applied.
The non-solar panel versionis incorrect too as it comes out to $95.38 not $92.38 ($87.88 + A$4.50)

I think i have the previous version zemismart on my blinds. Works okay, but not sure if its my blind cord or just some flaw in the chain, but it loses ‘tension’ in the cord after a while.. happens randomly as the chain starts skipping because its too loose. Then have to reattach and re-tension the cord… so annoying im almost ready to give up and find another solution

    • Hi dear,u can use smart tubular motor

      • Hi
It says code is invalid and it's already used

Does the blind driver drive a car or truck?
