A good price drop on the Ryobi Circular Saw. Not the brushless version but that is $269 skin only! I have one of these and have used it a fair bit in some light DIY at home. Great piece of kit for the price. Seems to be plenty of stock around.

nice price - totally do not need one but would almost be a shame NOT to get one to complete the set.

What would the brushless version do that this can't? Or is it more a it will last longer kind of thing?

    • I think it has more power and will last longer but I’d love to hear from someone who knows these well.

    • +5

brushless tools are more energy efficient as there are no physical brushes creating friction. the tools operate cooler and more energy goes into creating torque.

basically brushless tools have more power and generally last longer as there are less wearable parts

seems there are a few Bunnings + Ryobi 18v reductions currently = https://pricehipster.com/?q=ryobi%2018v&sortDirection=asc&so…

    • Thanks, this deal and the 1.5Ah battery seem to be the big reductions.

      • +3

If you can find one locally.

        • Yeah, those 1.5Ah batteries have been sold out at my 6 closest stores since the price of $39 last year.

I have this saw along with other ryobi tools and dont really rate it. Seems to jam and not have the grunt needed, but for the price i guess not bad

    • you sure its not just a blunt saw?

A blunt blade has some very strange effects on cutting I've found… including not cutting straight!

      • No, blade is fine. Saw is under powered even with 5ah bats.

        • Yep. Ditto for me. Same problem. You need corded to cut most things

    • +1

I was going to say the same….was just trimming some interior door bottoms before hanging and the saw cut out a few times trying to cut these.
Changed battery, went to a 4.0 and still the same. I think lacks any real power.
Still, the convenience of cordless is a blessing

  • Damn, just bought this 2 and a half weeks ago for full price 😑

    • +1

Buy again, then return new saw with old receipt :)
Or sometimes they will credit you the difference if you ask

  • For light, quick work, these are pretty great.

  • Thanks! Bought! Happy!

  • Looks good, is this suitable to cut 'polycarbonate roofing' sheet?

Have ozito devices, wish it can use ozito battery

I’ve got one of these and at first was a little underwhelmed with the power as it kept jamming with a 2 ah battery, however once I put a 4ah in , no problems.

I have one it's fine for smaller jobs such as mdf, chipboard and so on. I reckon I'd cut softwood up to 40mm with it, but it really is a bit gutless for anything remotely heavy-duty.

    • +1

can't be worse than the Ozito one. It conks out cutting pine pallets for firewood

  • Didn’t need it picked one up anyway. Only a few left at my local Bunnings.

  • Just buy the aftermarket 6amp hour batteryu ones which are 5amp ryobi equiverland with 5 years warrenty as well you can get 2 for $75

the vac is great value (inc 5 year warrenty vs 2 for dyson) long as you already have a decent battery or buy aftermarket ones, saw is also good value for basic work but you need 4amp min to do hard wood even at a slow pace.

    • Can you link to the battery please?

  • I have one of these and, to me, it is pretty much the definition of useless.

  • Silly question: is this for lefties?

    • +2

I got one of the older versions of this and yeah it drives me insane using it right-handed. All the weight sits on the waste side so very frustrating to use. Not sure what other people here are trying to cut with it but there's enough power for 'around the house' use. I would never try do any real construction with it. Ryobi do have a one+ 'right handed' version that I'll buy at some stage https://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-18v-one-hp-brushless-circu…

      • Weird. I would have thought it'd be the other way around. As in, I would think it would be easiest to use with the blade closest to you. I'm a leftie and having the blade on this farther away seems would make it harder to align to your cut line. Hmm, I sense a Google search in my future….

        • There’s two schools of thought on where the blade should be. It really comes down to personal preference.

  • Bought one. Be good to have around the house to cut some random woods

    Back to $149

    • Glad it went back up. I was trying to decide on whether to buy it or not based on reviews above about it being gutless. Price back up removed the choice. Hah

    • For the extra fifty you can get a Dewalt one which won't horse around.

    • Yeh I tried to go to my local and it wasn’t showing the price. Annoying that it only lasted for a day!
