Not the lowest price I believe. If you have Dell Advantage Rewards coupon, it will bring the price down further (max $100). Just noticed VIVID5 still works for this item.

The Dell Advantage reward program has now been discontinued effective on July 14th 2022 (AEST 23:59)*. Stay tuned as we develop a brand new Dell Rewards program tailored for you.

Too late to get one it seems.

I would really like to buy a widescreen usb-c monitor for my Mac mini. I’m not a gamer so it’s just for office work and the occasional old school sierra style game.

Can anyone comment how this compares to this other one posted here the other day?

    The Samsung LC34J791

I’d really appreciate a comment or two from anyone who knows a thing or two about Monitors.

    • +2

Not specifically for this monitor, but this has a bunch of useful information about mac scaling, the overheads associated with it and some examples of monitors that are a good fit https://bjango.com/articles/macexternaldisplays2/

I’ve picked one up recently and very happy with it so far. That said, I’m by no means a monitor afficianado, so no idea from a technical perspective how it stacks up.

All I know it is a great improvement both practically and aesthetically from my old two monitor setup. The USB-C and KVM makes connectivity between multiple devices a breeze.

    • I had big issues with this monitor on a 2017 MacBook Pro over USB-C. It wouldn't send signal, wouldn't charge. Macos kept saying shutting down port to protect the computer something… In the end Dell support couldn't fix it or work it out, so the monitor went back to Dell.

I have the same MBP working fine over USB-C with a u2520d monitor and now with a USB-C hub.

I bought on of these during EOFY deal with 5 years extended support for $617. Arrived in 3 days. And it is quite nice.

  • Also got this during the eBay EOFY deal, great monitor for work and it arrived within a week.

    Wish it was IPS!

You want more colours, a slow refresh rate, and worse blacks?

    • +1

Still using a 3415w from about 7 years ago and it’s going well. Back then peaked at 250nits. Good colours with IPS, and similarly lower contrast (about 1000:1 or 900:1) as you’ve mentioned. Would still recommend them though.

Would certainly recommend the size and resolution as a great productivity solution. The Alienware QD OLED is a tempting upgrade, though will wait a while for pricing to come down to make it feel worthwhile.

      • +1

Good monitor the 3415w. Upgrading has been tempting, but the km peripheral switch built in on this monitor makes it hard to justify upgrading to any monitor without a kvm switch.

  • Anyone know the full height of it at the lowest point of the stand? I think the non USB-C one fits (according to the spec) but i noticed another version of it doesnt. so it seems like some of them use different stands even though they are similar models.

  • +1

Instabuy at $500-$550, $600 seems like the normal price.

    • yeah looks like its been around the 540$ mark before. Also surprised to see it has no DP and it shares the USB-C port as a DP port? I find that really weird. I was hoping to use both. Is that what they mean by alternate DP with the USB-c? its like an adaptor?

      • +1

Not all USB-C ports are made the same. Only USB-C ports that support transmitting/receiving video signals can be used to connect a device to a screen and get output. This is referred to as Alternate Mode.

        There's a decent explanation here: https://www.benq.com/en-us/knowledge-center/knowledge/usb-c-…

But yes, you can use an adapter or a USB-C cable. I have the Samsung version of this screen that has both a USB-C and DisplayPort port on the back which is handy - my desktop gets the DP, by work laptop gets the USB-C

        • oh ok, didnt realise. hmm.. tough decision if i want one with DP port or USBC then.

  • Got one during EOFY + 5% off VIVID coupon at the time so ended up paying $557 all up at the time, arrived in less than a week.

So far so good, purchased this because of the USB-C connection to use with my MacBook. The only gripe I have is that it 'only' has 2 HDMI ports on top of the USB-C connection but that's specific to my use case. Overall, highly recommended for productivity work.

  • I ordered this one a couple of days after EOFY. Checked delivery times with Dell and stocks are expected around second week of September. So be mindful of that before ordering.

  • S3423DWC or S3422DWG? I only have one Macbook so not really fussed about the KVM/one extra plug. The DWG on paper seems to have better specs.

    • +1

The S3423DWC looks nicer. But beware the USB-C connection might not work with your MacBook… It didn't with my 2017 MBP which works fine with other USB-C monitors. Dell support ended up refunding my money and sent me a list of UltraSharp monitors that do work with Macs.

  • Got one of these for work and slightly regret as there's no dedicated DP port so can't daisy-chain another monitor for screen sharing on Teams. The ultra wide makes presenting very difficult.

Media viewing is also meh compared to my other IPS monitor.

Speakers are also pretty meh as well and the Power USB port is in an awkward location.

Good thing is USB C power delivery.

    • +1

Is there a built-in split screen function as shown in the photos?
Wondering if that would count as two screens and allow to share each half separately on teams.

    • I had this same issue re: presenting but just figured out the other day that teams can share a specific app or window in share screen mode. So if you resize the app you want to share to an ideal size/aspect ratio, that’s all the audience will see, not your whole monitor.

  • better than the famous xiaomi 34" ?

    • Definitely, that is old tech now.

  • Hi, if I want to watch a streaming movie say from Disney Plus, will it appear full-screen?

    • IMAX or not?

  • how is this "USB-C upstream/DisplayPort 1.4 Alt Mode with Power Delivery (power up to 65W)" different to a thunderbolt?

    • Significantly less bandwidth.

If you want to run the display at 100Hz, the data connection (through to USB ports on the monitor) will drop to USB2.0 speeds. Even at that speed I've had no troubles running a C922 Pro Webcam and a Jabra conference speaker.

In the future I might add a TB4 hub to the mix and streamline things further.

      • Getting a TB4 hub plus a monitor… you might as well have gone with a better screen with a better hub built in. A decent one costs as much as a monitor.

        • Got this monitor for $599, a decent TB4 hub can be had for under $300. Cheapest TB monitor I could find was 4 figures.

Got this for $569 from Dell ordered 26/6, shipped the 27th arrived 29th. Pretty happy with it, its connected to a HP Elitebook 1030 G7. Used just for a work monitor, no regrets.

  • Power Delivery up to 65 W

Will it be ok to use macbook pro 15" which uses 90 W?

    • Depends how many ports you’re using on your Mac and how hard you are pushing it.

  • +1

Have an extra 7% off coupon. Brings down the price to $557.54.
Might help someone pull the trigger.

    • Hi FakePeralta,

where can we find this extra 7% code?

      thanks

      • +2

I used Dell's student discount page to generate one. Happy to PM you the code.

    • Hi FakePeralta Is it possible to get a discount code as well, Cheers.

      • DM'ed you the code.

  • I have this. Very happy with it. Got it connected to my desktop pc via hdmi and work laptop via usb c. It has the built in dock so my keyboard and mouse automatically switch to the device that the monitor is displaying. And it charges the laptop. Made my desk a lot less cluttered because it allowed me to get rid of the Dell dock.

Also FYI if your work has Dell employee benefits you can get a further 8% off (from memory)

Has anyone ordered this recently? I got told 2 month wait for this monitor.

    • Yes same here sep 15, recently ordered a laptop that was the same deal with eta but was delivered within a couple days.

    • Mines saying 2 months aswell

  • Any idea how often Dell will have this one on sale? I am thinking to get a 34 inch curved monitor. I can see S3422DW and S3422DWG are currently on sale but I would prefer one with type C. Not sure if I should wait until this one goes on sale again or get the non type C ones now. Any suggestions will be appropriated.
