  • OOS everywhere near me (Vic).

    • A friend just bought one from Bayswater - he said there was quite a few, but the legs and bolts were just sitting separately, so make sure you collect the necessary parts !

Ugly. Ashes will get everywhere too. If it was a fire pit I would have bought.

      Good for marshmallows though!

I always line brazier's with metal wire/mesh. Fire pits are good for bigger groups, but burn through wood quickly. Brazier's do a better good job if just hanging with a mate or two.

Good idea, thanks. Any specific recommendations on a mesh aperture/spacing or product from Bunnings for lining?

        • +4

We just lined ours with 10mm X 10mm square mesh wire (not galvanised if you can), we also use lump charcoal instead of firewood. No smoke once the charcoal takes hold..

          Cheers Rob

EDIT: Maybe buy 2 of these and slide one inside the other offsetting the gaps…

@Robski7777: Brilliant, cheers. Any specific reason why non-galvanised, out of curiosity?

            • +10

@[Deactivated]: Burning galvanized products releases some extremely nasty fumes. Even the rustic blacksmiths I visit ban anything galvanized from entering the smithy. When seventy year olds who laugh at asbestos fear burning galvanised things its worth attention.

@Happy501: Ahh, exactly the info I was looking for. Thank you, Happy501! And thanks all.

EDIT: Hmm, I'm actually struggling to find any NON-galvanised wire mesh products that seem fit for this purpose.. Seems like most are galvanised these days.. anyone else had any more success or could point me in the right direction?

@[Deactivated]: Or could I theoretically just buy some galvanized wire mesh and soak it in vinegar to remove the zinc?

                  • @[Deactivated]: I've done this multiple times for things that I've welded, works well.

That does not look safe or easy to clean up afterwards.

You don’t do it when it’s hot

ha 10 bucks for a backyard basketball hoop

That's a pretty posh looking rubbish bin

  • These are s###.

  • If you wait long enough Bunnings will do theirs to $5 at the end of the season. That’s how I got mine

  • +3

I got one of these off a nature strip/council pickup and put a terracotta pot/base into it as a bird bath.

Keeps it up off the ground so the birds feel safer.

    • Good idea. I was thinking they would look good full of dry pine cones as a bit of a display item

We have one of these just make sure and keep it out of the rain it rusts but it's been holding up. Also the little catch pan needs to be stored sideways as it has no drain holes and will fill up with water.

    • +1

One of the reviews said theirs had holes, and they wish it didn't so they could put water in it to catch the ambers.

      • The corners are open. Bunnings sells a similar model with a round pan that has no holes and fills up with water.
The problem is these things spread ash everywhere especially if the wind picks up.

    • Have a drill?

  • This is a terrible product. It's shameful that Anaconda markets it as a lifestyle product. I don't see many packing this on their SUVs to their campsite: why would you waste premium car space when you can just dig a shallow hole? Those people who buy this is because it costs on 10 bucks and they will use it in their backyard. Now, if you live in a residential zone, with all the clean energy that keep you warm [not mentioning the Tesla you own], why the heck do you want to burn wood in your backyard? I'm not a cranky greenie as you night think because long time ago I lived in rural area and I have dug hole chop wood to cook and keep warm.

It's not the price of the merchandise, it's what you are going to use it for.
