I remember paying $40 for an LED light from Kogan about 15 years ago. It turned on about 1 second after you flicked the switch, it then took about
a minute to reach full brightness, which was normal for these premium light bulbs, then in true Kogan fashion it stopped working about a year later.
Now I can buy these bulbs that are far superior, brighter, warmer, longer lasting, instant on, instant bright for under $4 each.

  • These or Osram 11W 1000 lm 3 pack one from Bunnings for $9.50?

My old dad bought these Woolies ones about a month back when they were this price last time.
      They work fine.
800lm is good for lounge bedroom, 1000lm or so would be great for kitchen and patios

  • wait for the 1/2 priced philips bulbs

Coles are half price too; I got the 1400Lm ones.
Just an FYI, their 'cool white' are 4000 Kelvin.
Absolutely beautiful for living in compared to the sterile 6000k; but if you DIDNT know to look, 'cool white' might be misleading for some.

For anyone living (not working) in 6000k, because 2800k was 'far too yellow' I'd actually encourage you to give 4000k a try, because It's genuinely much more relaxing at the times of the day, you need light (night, before bed).
I was shocked at how much a little thing like that changed my comfort levels.

    • I agree. 6000K blue white is just awful. Makes a house look like a morgue. Harsh and crusty cold light. A house should be inviting, not feel like a commercial building with no soul.

For those that don't know much about LED's may I make a recommendation. If you like your room/kitchen/lounge etc bright then the 1,400 lumen bulb is what I use. In my opinion the 1,000 lumen bulb would be suitable for medium sized bedrooms. The 806 lumen bulbs for small rooms such as a laundry or toilet.
One of our hall lights uses a 470 lumen 5W bulb which stays on all night, so midnight family wanderers can make it to the toilet without bumping into things.
At 40c/kWh (which is an approximate rate Australians are charged for their electricity) if this 5W bulb was on 24 hours per day it would cost 4.8c per day or less when you take in off peak electricity. I think warm white is so much better than cool white. When you go into a 7/11 or Shell servo at night the glare of cool white is really harsh on the eyes. I prefer the softness of warm white, 2,700 to 3,000K for bedrooms and lounge, 3,000K for the kitchen and 3,000 to 4,000k for the bathroom and laundry. Anyhow these are my preferences, it may not be suitable for other people, particularly the brightness.
BTW I noticed that the warm white Mirabella globes advertised here are 2,700K, I reckon this is even better than 3,000K for a lounge or bedroom,
to me it makes the room feel very comfortable and relaxed.

I think we're very similar. I like 3000K for the kitchen, just that bit more white. I like the loungeroom warm white it just gives that soothing relaxing environment. I mean you don't go into massage parlours and have 6000k light do you!!

I also like bright workspaces - so in the kitchen I have 2x 1400 lumen over benchtops and a 1000 lumen in the centre of the room. A longish dining/living room has 4 E27 downlights and I have 4x 1000 lumen lights @ 3000k. Makes this living area feel larger and well-lit. Not peering and straining to see anything.

Bedrooms and Loungeroom don't need to be super bright.

Bathroom I also like bright. I have 1400 lumen in there. Wish there was a second light because one light in the room means sometimes I'm in my own shadow. 2x 800 lumen evenly spaced would work better, but it's a rental.

  • My god we are similar, whenever I go into a massage parlour I've always got my 2,700K bulb in my hand!!
