  • Have the xiaomi, whats the best way to calibrate the display?

  • Can anyone recommend me a 27" 1440p monitor that I can use as a secondary monitor for work?

I currently use a 1440p monitor as my main and an old 1080p as the secondary and I just like the workspace more of a 1440p

Doesnt have to be anything too expensive so cheap is good - since its only a secondary monitor.

    Current main is a 27GL850

    • +3

cant go wrong with 2721DGF. its seems a popular choice for a primary, secondary, tertiary etc monitor.

      • +1

You've basically recommended them the exact same monitor they already have. Very similar LG panel and implementation.

It's a $400 high refresh rate monitor. They could save $100-$200 looking at lower refresh rate QHD and UHD options from Dell and others.

        • -2

Mainly because they didn't specify any other requirements and the 2721DGF covers most boxes when on sale.

          • +1

@jtlaus: You might want re-read what they posted

Seems the Dell S2721DS would fit your needs + budget. Currently on sale for $291.85 delivered:

  • +5

Comes down to $501 with the 7% coupon.

    • Does it give you a code just by giving your email or does it require proof you're a student? Looks like it's only asking for an email there

      • +1

Just need to pop in your email and they sent it instantly - no verification needed.

        • Awesome! Thanks for the reply

  • +1

Been waiting for this again but caved in for the G3223Q deal a couple of days ago.

  • +4

Good deal, just bought a refurbished one from dell outlet for $449 and it came cracked in the corner with lots of dead pixels, still trying to work it out with dell support

For $501 I’d definitely buy brand new

    • Did you manage to get a replacement from Dell? I bought a refurb during the EOFY sale and it turned up with something loose or broken inside the monitor. Dell have been stuffing me around for weeks and are only offering to refund but not replace. The monitor is back up to full price now.

  • This one or the other dell one with the USB-C and the KVM switch?

    • Which one is that one?

      • S3423DWC

        • +1

          That’s $1200!

          • +3

@flashi007: It goes on sale for a lot less.

            • @DarkLegion: I had the DWC, but the PD and DP over USB-C didn't work on my 2017 Apple MacBook Pro. Dell support basically told me I need an UltraSharp series to work with a Mac. It worked fine with other USB-C laptops (Lenovo).

It's a really handsome package and I really wish it had worked with my MacBook. Same MacBook works fine with a USB-C HDMI breakout dongle/hub (with PD) and a Dell U2520D. I had the DWC for about $560. I think you'll be happy with this. DPI is okay at ~110, could be higher but youd need a 5k2k to be better or a smaller 27 16:9 4k to beat that.

              • @Felixrising: I want hook it up to my Mac mini and MacBook Pro. You wouldn’t recommend the dwc?

          • +1

@flashi007: Nah it usually goes on 50% off sale for around $550.

    • +1

Depends. If you need the USB-C and KVM features then get the other one otherwise buy this for the higher refresh rate (144 vs 100). Both use a VA panel.

    • Have both and the USB C with KVM is suuuuper convinient. One press to switch between desktop and laptop and re-route mouse, keyboard, and headset in one shot.

Left the KVM behind as the ghosting was terrible on that display for gaming.

      • What kvm are you using?

        • Built into the screen mate.
Has USB A connectors for your peripherals (regular USB for mouse, keeb, anything you want)

If you switch input to USB C then it will automatically send all those USB devices down USB C.

If you switch input to DP/HDMI it will route through "USB" output to your PC (using a USB Type B USB 3.0-to-Type A cable)

  • Thx, I got 1 unit.

  • Isn't the Dell G3223D a better monitor since its using IPS panel and its cheaper at the moment with the Ebay discount?

    • +1

      That's 16:9, this is 21:9

    • Also depends on what you're looking for in a monitor, IPS does not automatically mean better.

  • Thanks got one!

  • Not having owned a ultra wide before, can you set it up in windows as two monitors displaying side-by-side? Or only one super wide monitor?

How do lower resolution games display on this? Say a standard QHD or FHD resolution rather than WQHD? Does it just display black bands on the sides & the image in the middle? Or does it stretch the image or the like?

    • +2

Yes. Usually black bars on sides. Never seen it stretch though I can can imagine that could happen with older games.

      • One can also change the setting in the GPU driver's control panel.

    • +1

Yes you can set it up & have two windows open side by side

    • +2

Some will get black bands, others you can sometimes manually edit .ini files with the correct resolution.

Having said that, I've been using an ultra wide for around a year and the only issues I've had with older games has been the title/menu screens being stretched, the game itself has been fine.

  • Hey Op, do you mind sharing the caliberation you did on the monitor?

    • +4

I just followed the RTINGS calibration settings (See Color Accuracy (Post-Calibration)
section) and adjusted the brightness to suit my preferences.

      • Ta

      • Hey man, how did you find things like colour temperatures RGB Gamut Area xy White Balance dE etc? I cant locate them

        • Yea, I can only find Custom colour, gain and offset. Cant find other settings in the monitor's menu.

  • +4

Great monitor - I recommend it to everyone who asks for a good WFH monitor.

  • Can anyone comment on the contrast when comparing to a Dell 27 S2721D which is IPS?
Currently have 2x S2721D and 1x Gigabyte G27QC. Side by side, the Gigabyte looks a little washed out in comparison. Its a great monitor but sort of annoys me in difference.

Looking at upgrading the Gigabyte to 32" anyway and just wanted to take the opportunity for getting something that performs somewhat equal.
edit - I'm not too sure if its the IPS/VA that makes the difference when these are side by side

    • +2

Have you tried calibrating the colour and contrast settings of the Gigabyte to match the Dells?

This monitor next to my 2721DGF IPS is ever slightly washed out after calibration, both on HDR. The viewing angles of the curved VA panel definitely seem to contribute, but I don't find it bad at all.

  • +2

Thanks OP. Ordered one for work.

It got annoying going from 34in Ultrawide WFH set up to 27in 1080 16:9 basic monitor at work. At this point waiting for work to approve and order one isn’t as important as working without hating on the work set up haha.

Dell chat said it will be approx 3-7 business days delivery to Sydney. The other Dell S3422DW ($599.50) had a 9 week wait, delivery mid September.

    • Not sure how you connect to remote workstation but for my case at a few places, IT just need to change the resolution of your remote workstation to match your home monitor resolution.

      • We have laptops so no remote in. I personally like having two docs side by side and laptop being the third window with email on it.

We don’t have a dedicated IT in-house. Hey remote in to the devices from wherever which is common for smaller businesses.

  • Can this monitor do Picture By Picture with two different input sources?

    • +2

Yes Picture in Picture and Picture By Picture

      • Does it require additional software to be installed on the PC or automatic?

  • +2

Great monitor especially for the price, if I didn't already have an AW3423DW this would probably be my second pick for this size and ratio (not a fan of IPS glow).

Of note for anyone it's important to, the black uniformity on these is fantastic - short of OLEDs, there seems to be very few panels with black uniformity quite this good.

  • Great! Been looking for a good WFH monitor.

  • +1

Any recommendations for ultrawide 4k with usb-c for WFH and hdmi 2.1 for gaming?

  • +3

Thanks OP! I'm so glad this popped up. Yesterday I told my SO his birthday present is going to be late because I'm waiting for a sale lol. Now it'll come just in time and it'll be a nice surprise

  • Why is the curve only an 1800R, wouldn't a 1500R be better suited for a monitor this size?

    • +1

Probably depends very much on intended usage and distance to monitor, but for my usage I think 1800r has been perfect.

  • Thanks OP!

  • Ordered thanks OP. Would love to know more about how you calibrated it.

    • +2

I linked the rtings calibration settings a few posts up. I just set those settings on the panel itself using the OSD. There should be some Reddit posts with better explanations on how to do this in detail

      • Hi mate, quick Q about calibration as I got the monitor today. I could only find Gain, Offset, Brightness and Contrast on the monitor settings menu. How do I access settings for the colour gamut, white balance, etc. Is that done inside Windows itself?
        Thanks

        • +2

Can't remember if it's on the monitor itself, but they're definitely on windows. If you have an nvidea GPU you can right click desktop and go to nvidea control panel to adjust other colour settings.

  • +1

This or the LG 35WN75C ?

    • I would choose the one thats suits your needs best.

      • Aren't they both the same

    • same question…

    • Also interested in this.

  • I got a 31.5” non wide a couple months ago and absolutely love it. This is really tempting! Considering upgrading lol

  • Wondering will i get the extra 6% cashback from shopback?

    • 1.5% on ex-GST amount and I am waiting for a confirmation. Don't think I will get it though because I used the 7% student discount.

  • Hi team would this monitor work with mac air?

  • +2

Just to update everyone, I had the monitor delivered yesterday (ordered Friday). CashReward $7.52 is pending (used student discount) so looking forward to see how it compares to my Dell P3421W IPS. I would think it will be the same minus the missing USB C between the two (new screen will be parked at work and no different to connecting HDMI and power with current 27in monitor now).

From the YouTube reviews the viewing angles straight on is good and I rarely have anyone hovering over my shoulder to view my screen so VA panel should be fine for my purpose too.

Thanks again OP, you saved me from buying a cheaper screen from Costco (https://www.costco.com.au/Computers-Tablets-Mobile-Phones/Mo…)

    • Hope you enjoy the purchase :) let us know what you think

      • +1

Already enjoying it unopened. Spent a smidge over $1k delivered for the P series. This is already half price saved so can’t go wrong (provided this is a new product and not damaged in any way haha).

  • Update: unboxed and set up was a cinch. Looks like I didn’t get a refurb which is ace.

I had to leave so this is my 5 min impression. The colour was quite warm so will spend time customising the setting (there’s lots of info online what other ppl tried). If anyone here wants to share what settings they have I’d appreciate it very much :)

I just use standard workplace stuff like MS Office, Outlook, PDF and websites.

The max resolution was 1080 so looked crap. I was using old HDMI so that’s prob the culprit. So need to try using Dell supplied cables to see if I can get native resolution (Dell supplies DP cable too but my laptop doesn’t have the port). Based on research lot of other ppl have this problem and others have offered suggestions on solution on this link https://www.dell.com/community/Monitors/S3422DWG-how-to-incr…

I may need to get a HDMI to USB C to get 3440x1440 which is cheaper than getting a docking station.

Anyone else get theirs delivered yet? What are your thoughts?

    • hey man got mine delivered loving it on my gaming rig but having the same issue with work laptop. Max is 1080p. Did you end up getting a new cable ?

      • +1

From what I read online, laptops (mine at least) are hdmi 1.4 so that’s the max resolution.

I got a usb c to display port cable. That seemed to get the native resolution with work laptop to my monitor at home so I think that or usb c to hdmi is the way to go.

I got the cable from Mwave for $18.

        • Thanks mate. Pretty shitty we had to pay extra to get a new cable. Is this normal? I read other monitors basically plug n play.

I can’t be bothered unplugging every time switching between gaming rig and work laptop so just gonna use usb c to hdmi. Hopefully it works

          • +1

@sauce2k: Can confirm USB C to DP works getting native resolution. Agree that it is annoying if you paid full RRP. But I kept telling myself the sale stacked with student discount offsets the inconvenience and I have a bunch of spare cables they provided that I don’t need to buy again lol.

            • @Littlevu: Yeh I bought USB C to HDMI and confirm it brought it up to native resolution. Luckily my crappy work laptop has a USB-C port.

  • Does anyone know if this supports Dual Controller like LG monitors i.e. if inputs from two systems will show at the same time they on the monitor? Thanks.

    • +1

Yes, it supports Picture in Picture and Picture by Picture with inputs from 2 different systems
