can i lightly game on the 5700g whilst my 3090 renders?

  • Best price for 5900x yet?

    • $530.10 was the lowest it seems.

    • I got it for $529 a few days ago from centre com eBay. Price was $589 and a $60 promo code was available

  • +1

    Damn, 5600 OOS

    • curious, why not get the 5600G?

      • Half the L3 cache and no pcie 4.0 support

        • -2

new pcie standard isn't going to help you, l3 cache will matter on high end gpus tho, if it isn't a gaming machine with high end gpu then it's not really important

          • +4

@desync: If you don't need the iGPU then the 5600 is faster and cheaper. Doesn't matter if it's not really important, paying more for a worse thing is a reasonable standpoint.

Pcie standard is an issue with some AMD GPUs (like the 6600xt, which is a great price right now) and you might as well futureproof. While it's pretty much unnoticeable a pcie 4.0 nvme is actually faster and might help with load times with directstorage.

L3 cache is also game dependant, games like CSGO benefit massively from the L3 cache and the 5600g seems to have more stuttering issues in game benchmarks.

If the 5600g is fine for their use case, they should also just buy a 5500. Cheaper and the same design as the 5600g (monolithic, just sans iGPU), just clocked slightly slower.

          • @desync: 5600g is a bad pick for the price point unless you need the igpu. Performs worse than 5600 in every benchmark.

also pcie 4.0 is not new anymore, 5.0 is the latest. pcie also affects m.2 performance.

Is there any universal motherboard recommendation for the x5900 that will provide reliable trouble free computing?

    • Have you checked out Hardware Unboxed B550 and X570 reviews?

      • I have. All the videos are overly detailed for me, and they always mention how you can get more for less on another board, then you watch that other motherboard video and they mention how it lacks this and that. It's just so confusing. I just want a good and reliable motherboard with quality caps and capable VRMs that will make the most the
        5900x cpu/ram/gpu/storage .
Gigabyte aurus line are highly regarded by a lot of video reviewers but then home users have a lot of QA issues with GIGA and recommend to avoid.

      b550

      tomahawk

      X570 tomahawk

      B550

      gaming carbon from MSI

      Strix b550

      X570 taichi

If money is no concern get the x570 Strix-E

but any of the above are well regarrded as the best Mobos on the chipset

steer clear of gigabyyte their quality control is (profanity) trash

x5900 just needs Good VRM and a decent cooler on it

If you want a water cooler just get the hx110 or the fractal s24

If air the dark rock 4

      or the Uh14

      • ++ 1 for X570 tomahawk.

        • +1

X570s versions are also updated without the chipset fan (A mechanical part that can be prone to failure)

      • which air cooler do you recommend for a 5600x which I am not planning to OC? already installed it, and running on temps of 40-50 idle. up to mid 80's after 5min of cinebench r23

        • ended up buying the artic sports 34 duo for about 80 bucks, got my idle temp in the 30 range and cinebench to 65

    • Stay away from Gigabyte X570 series, they have problems with USB

  • Great pricing.

$415 was a great price for an OEM 5600X a year ago, when I bought it.

    Great deal at $280.

    • +1

      Is it good for games?

      • Yes. Unless you're (1) still on 1080p (why?!?), (2) have a beastly GPU (3070Ti / 6800 or better) AND (3) need the absolute best performance at that resolution, I'd highly recommend the 5600X.

        • Thanks

          • @amsaini15: I use one with 6900xt, good combo for 3440x1440 res.
Almost never CPU bound at 140hz.

  • +1

Looking to upgrade from my 3600, it just isn't keeping up with VR titles and i'm looking for more stable frames in MSFR, not sure if I should get either a 5700X or 5800X, or if I should wait for that rumoured 5600X3D.

    • +1

The X3D CPU's are exactly for your use case

Wait for 5600X3D and 5900X3D pricing to be announced and then decide because AMD are going to reshuffle the entire lineup

If they keep offering the 5600, 5600X and 5600X3D side by side, that's going to be strange

  • +2

HODL unless you need an AM4 CPU immediately for a build and then, only the 5600X is a reasonable deal

AMD are drip feeding the new 5600 and 5700X stock to keep prices high

There will be more price games once the 5600X3D and 5900X3D are released

    • +2

Is this rumour true in regards to these 5600X3D and 5900X3D remain to be seen. The new Zen 4 will be coming very soon.

  • I Have a r5 3600 with 2070 super, worth upgrading to 5600x?

    • +1

Only if you can see a 1 FPS difference assuming you game at 1440p…

    • I did, it helps with 1% lows, not really peak fps. 1440 and above

  • Cheers op, upgraded from a 2600x to 5600x

  • Why is there never a 5700X on special? I bought one with the SE 10% off sale, so i don't need one anymore. But question still remains……
Has 5800X performance, with less power draw, cheaper and runs cooler.

  • +1

Dang 5800X3D out of stock already

    • How much was it selling for?

    • I had asked SE about that earlier. Not enough stock and price not competitive enough.

  • Does anyone have any recommendations for an ITX Board to run a 5900x?

  • Can anyone recommend a model?
Currently still running a i5-7600K but paired with my 3070 I am having some issues with the res I play at.

Hoping for something that can help me not struggle with games on higher settings.
    I play at 3440x1440 with a 3070.

I was planning to just go all out and get a 5900X to "futureproof" but I'm not so sure thats even the best move here considering I'd need a new board anyway.

    Any thoughts appreciated.

  • Dirty sales practices from these guys. I just got notified they dropped the listed prices and they sure did.

    • eBay doesn't take the full hit on these codes so pretty much all sellers adjust their prices so they don't sell at a loss. Been the case for years and years.

      • The price drops are a fairly large margin and you can now get the 5600G for cheaper than with the code.
