Um, based on the deal page & Samsung's website, this has 3 HDMI. It seems you may be thinking of the E531, which has 2 HDMI, less connectivity options, no 3D & no SmartTV. Since I've seen the E531 for $1100 in stores, this deal is excellent, & slightly surprising that it has dropped so quick (especially given the unseasonal demand from the upcoming Olympics).
I think the D550 didn't have Smart TV, you had to go further up in the range to get it. I presume the addition of Smart TV is how they can justify the 2012 E550 with a much higher (initial) price tag.

hi ozzie13, what your seeing is correct, this is our new price for our EOFY sale, we should let you all know we had a far better response than we were expecting, we have sold out in all states but Victoria as of this morning, more stock will be arriving late last week. any order placed can be done as COD and you can pay $799 on delivery. deliveries should be ready to go again late next week or early the week after.

Hmm I always wanted a LG 55LW6500 then a LG 55LM7600 when previous became obsolete while I was waiting for the price to reach $1500 for 200Hz.. Currently the 55LM7600 that I want is at $2500 cheapest.. Hmm but for a $799 plasma.. hmm Im starting to think I could use the money else where besides using it all on the LG I always wanted.. How does this Samsung Plasma perform in bright rooms.. My lounge is bright during the day, but currently I have a huge ass CRT that has a glass pane in front of it that glares a little but not too bad.. hmmm decisions.. should I get this or stick with CRT until the LG I wanted comes below $2000 mark.. haha! even then I can be a tight a$$ and save money with this plasma.. haha!
Hi Darkage, lets be clear, the e550 doesn't look as vivid as a 8 series Samsung or a Panasonic vt series. however the e550 is the workhorse of the bbb office, we have our customer service department running permanent images 16 hours a day on them with no sign of image burn. (we sort of wanted to see what would happen) reflection obviously is an issue with plasmas. Personally two members of the BBB office have the d550 at home and we do need to close the blinds during the middle of the day. morning and afternoons seem fine. TBH if you are not having any issues with your CRT there are actually some anti reflection properties added to the screens on plasmas which were never offered on CRTs so you may actually be better off.
Im pretty sure my CRT Magnavox is 50" the glass pane in front looks like it might have some antiglare coating (look like a bit smokey glass pane in front of CRT) My lounge is north facing so really during mid day in full sunlight its a pain other wise its acceptable. Also I have satellite and some feeds (channels) are bit poor in quality which plasma will smooth out unlike LCD/LED with its sharpness shows its flaws more in signal quality.. Yes I know this isn't super sharp but still better than my CRT and a cheap price.. ahh Im on the fence, Im off to JBHifi now to see it in person.. How long will this deal last you think? and I noticed you dont sell LG 55LM7600 after the 55LW6500's sold out, any possible special cheap shipment possibility?

Is anyone able to find energy usage figures on this plasma? Seems Samsung are always hiding their actual consumption. Its got a 4.5 star energy rating, but what is the typical power consumption? 200W? 300W?

I bought this TV for my parents while I was in India. Brilliant TV. I absolutely loved it.
Went to JB HIFI last weekend. They were selling it around 1160$….I tried to negotiate and the best price the guy offered me was 1130. I said it is selling for 1015$ online(best price at that time) and the guy said that below our cost price, we cannot match that.
I went to Warringah Mall Jb Hifi today during lunch, they price matched to $799. The sales guy said, geeze that is cheap. His manager signed off and now I own one. Would have got one delivered via Big Brown Box if I didnt have to wait 1-2 weeks for delivery.
JB Hi-Fi West Lakes wouldn't match it. Said the best they could do was $949.

Bad website, After I ordered tell me there's no stock and need to wait 2 weeks, after 2 weeks waiting they tell me need to wait till August. They keep my money for more than 2 weeks and make me miss another good TV deal. It's a scam!!!!!!!!!!!!
the only difference i can see from last years model d550 is that this one has got only 2 HDMI ports (Correct me if I am wrong) however it has smart TV features missing from d550. Still, overall a good value for money TV even if you dont care about 3D feature.
