    • +17

      Hand in your ozbargain license.

  • +9

I prefer buying cheap sachels from marketplace and reuse unstamped stamps from ebay purchaces for letters lol

    Have about 30 x 5kg and 20 x 3kg i bought for $5 each

And about $50 worth of stamps from buying $2 or $3 screen protectors

    • +3

yep…i dont even save unfranked stamps from ebay purchases anymore. got plenty, use none.

hot tip: if you have a coffee machine with steam wand they come off real easy

      • +3

Unfranked stamps are legal tender you know…

However they probably ARE franked by UV. Go buy yourself a blacklight and test.

        • doubt it mate…pretty sure Auspost wouldn't be spending money on this kind of tech.

actually im pretty sure not franking every single stamp that passes through the line is a cost cutting measure

i reckon only 1/5 is franked these days - at best

also, buying a blacklight would eat into my profit margin in saving unfranked stamps

    • +3

unstamped or not I'll take it and a bit of toothpaste will bring them back to life

Who needs 100 stamps in 2022?

    • +21

Who needs 100 stamps in 2022?

      Auspost

    • +5

      Who doesn't!

Anything under 2cm and less than 150grams can go in a C4 envelope!

      • Tracking?

        • +4

          No tracking, just normal letter.

With tracking (for letter size) you are looking at $3ea for small (max width 5mm, weight 125g), or $4.85ea for medium (max width 20mm, weight 500g).

Dudes who sell cheap meds on Ozbargain

    • +2

Me I run an online business

    • You can use that 100 stamps to send out parcels, wont last long if you regularly sell stuffs online.

    • Well this would have been handy about a month ago when we sent wedding invitations out. Other than that I haven't used a stamp in years

  • +7

I usually reuse the stamps that come in the mail that haven’t been stamped with a date…😆

    • +4

      My twin🥳

    • +2

Do you have any tips on removing stamps with micro cuts from letters without damaging the stamps?

      • +10

Cut around them. Soak the back with water with a dripper. Wait 2 min, remove and attach to new letter . Put glad wrap over stamp and then tape and tell next person they can reuse the stamp or parcel

        • +4

Put glad wrap over stamp and then tape and tell next person they can reuse the stamp or parcel

Haha that's so clever and silly at the same time!

        • +3

I would have thought alcohol but I guess that's not required.

I remember when I was 10 I wanted to see whether Auspost would deliver if I had a fake postage paid Australia on the envelope lmao.

          • @HairyChickens: Alcohol is a bad idea, as the ink from a lot of stamps will come off the stamp (along with the adhesive layer).

I found this out the hard way a while ago! At least the stamps I ruined were not valuable…

          • +7

@HairyChickens: Yeh i tried that experiment. Sent a letter to myself with a photoshopped "postage paid" and it got delivered

        • Dedicated to your art

      • +2

You could probably just cut it out as a square from the envelope…I doubt they would care as long as it is not stamped 😅

        • +1

Just dont make ot obvious. There will always be that guy who flags the parcel and makes life hard for the reciever

    • +1

Most of them were not stamped. 😁

    • +3

      Isn't that like theft ?

    • +3

so you;re basically fine then with walking into an auspost stealing 2 stamps and walking away.

  • +1

I don't like this, stamps used to be, (almost, sort of?) the equivalent of money, and now they're not.

  • +2

This might be a stupid question, but can you pay for tracked postage for packages using stamps? (say you took the package to the post office, gave them enough stamps to cover the postage cost)

    • +2

Yes. I do it all the time.

      • Thanks ducks and @wavesgreen - do you know if this extends to add-on services like extra cover?

        • +2

Probably not, I tried to pay for a registered letter with stamps I'd already put on the envelope, they ignored the overpaid postage, charged me full price and were really rude: "yOu wOuLDnT aSk tO pAy yOuR BiLLs iN sTaMpS"

          • +2

@So Was Red: Maybe just bad staff at your local post office. Mine are really nice

    • Yes they put on a little tracking barcode, make sure to keep your copy of the tracking number and/or get them to give you a lodgement receipt with it printed on it.

    • +1

Yes, tracking is included in that service! But you CAN'T pay for registered post with stamps and the staff may treat you like an absolute moron for trying… despite both things are just an extra sticker slapped on…

      • I am pretty sure you can do that. Probably you just ran into a bunch of moron staff:)

  • +4

I'm going to buy some and send some spam in the post

  • Can you take them back to auspost and exchange for money?

    • Yes I think stamps are good as cash

  • +3

Can't find where to stick them on my emails…

    • +1

      in the attachments

  • +1

    Stamps!

  • +3

    Hey, here's a better deal…
They don't stamp the stamps (as used) on parcels or letters anymore, MOST of the time, due to sheer AusPost ineptitude , rendering them legally unused.
You can cut off, or pull these stamps from 'non stamped' letters / parcels, and use them yourself.
Completely legal and a way better bargain. WAY BETTER BARGAIN.. in fact…
    .. A true OZBARGAIN..

    • +1

any true OzBargainer, would send EVERYTHING by stamp, back and forth.. back and forth .. back and forth… you get it.

        dateacheapo.com.au love letters?

        • +1

          That's why I'm rich baby !

  • +2

Was gonna buy it then realised I was eligible for the concession auspost card

    • +3

Sure but you can only get 50 stamps per year at concession rate, so if you need more than that this is still a good deal, stamps very rarely go on sale.

  • doesn't coupons/ codes void cash back?

    • +2

The cashback will track as $0 but according to this the $5 bonus will track but that seems to be disputed, will update description.

      • hmmm interesting

      • +1

I read his comment and didn't understand what the category has to do with using a coupon code ??

        • +1

well 0% cash back categories usually don't get cashback and makes it not eligible for some bonuses but now saying 0% cash back catergories can qualify for the $50 spend get $5 cash back bonus on ebay

      • +2

The $5 bonus went through successfully.

        • +1

          yes it did

  • Can I go to the Post Office and hand in 100 stamps for paying my council bill?

    • how about 350 of them to a high class brothel?

  • +8

Ah those fond memories of that OzB live streaming of the faulty stamp vending machine….

  • Don’t understand all these comments about theoretical situations of people paying for things with stamps like it’s money, is it supposed to be funny or something? I legit don’t get it.

  • wow someone bought 20!

    • Impressive, I thought you had to buy 100!

  • -1

I think stamps are legal tender and can be exchanged for goods and services

  • +1
  • +5

Just a note, pretty sure stamps fall under federal law and tampering with them, reusing, etc is a federal offence. Postage is cheap enough via Auspost just pay them what they deserve

    • +1

Postage is NOT cheap via Australia Post.

Postage is expensive regardless of mode of company.

      • +4

It’s cheaper than fuel now. If items aren’t available at a nearby store and I have to go 20-30km each way to C&C, that’s say 50km, on a car that’s 10l/100km, it’s around $9 in fuel. Might as well pay for delivery with those costs.

      • +1

It's a $1.10 to deliver a letter or small package from one end of the country to the other.

If that's not cheap, I don't know what is.

        • It’s also nearly $10 to deliver a single tennis ball to anywhere in Australia, that sound like a good deal?

          • @lordezekiel: 500g satchel from eBay usually cheaper than $10 though

            • +1

@Turd: Yeah $9.30, so much cheaper

              • @lordezekiel: Take that 70cents and you can use it at another shop! BE A MAN

        • Also $1.10 to deliver a letter next door. Auspost could learn afew things from local courier companies on de-centralising. How can a courier company be able to pickup a parcel in the morning and deliver it the same day if both sender and receiver are in the same city? This is faster than auspost express and cheaper in price! Whilst auspost has to take everything back to one of the major mailing centres, eg: Sunshine or Dandenong, even for a parcel going to the same postcode or the neighbouring postcode. Then re route them in 1-2 days for delivery.

          • @Frozensage: I wouldn't take my neighbours mail to the house on the other side of them for $1.10.

And I certainly wouldn't deliver a tennis ball from Sydney to Perth for $10.

'Tis the 21st century and time, fuel and infrastructure cost money, people…

        • used to cost me 60 cents about 5-10 years ago.

    • +1

And not worth the burden on the legal system for $1.10

  • Technically stamps are considered currency and you should be allowed to pay for food with them / exchange them for cash
    Will try find a source
