    No.
Next time don't sell your 2080ti before trying to order a graphics card

    • +2

Weren't they $1800-2000 in the end?
Still good none the less and noone would have predicted the shortage.

    • -1

That was a nightmare for many gamers! Thats why we need competition in every industry. China needs one too.

      • -4

No, all chips came from China, or Taiwan, but China claims Taiwan too. so its all china then.

        • -1

I meant how everything is manufactured in China. If China stops exporting, it would be a nightmare.

        • +3

TSMC is Taiwan, Samsung is South Korea.

There are cards that get assembled in China and/or use Chinese parts, but none of the GPU chips get made there.

          • +1

@jasswolf: well Taiwan is China isn't it, at least that's what they claim it to be.

      • It’s OEM’s fault, they even sell mined cards in Asia markets as brand new ones, meanwhile they were sending their 30 series units to miners by trucks directly.
And that’s the reason why most Chinese gamers chose to quit buying 30 series, or buying as new but consider them used.

  • Almost reached what I paid for mine coming on 2 years ago. Nature is healing.

    • Amazing time machine you got there.

    • +11

This is the 12gb model though not the 10gb model you got back in the day

  • +6

Actually, this is an okay deal considering this is the 12GB version and from Asus.

    Not just 2Gb extra vRAM
Memory bus is 384-bit vs 320-bit
Effective bandwidth is 912.4GB/s vs 760.3GB/s
Tensor cores are 280 vs 272
RT cores are 70 vs 68

If these drop between $1000 and $1100 I would say they're great at that price if one can't wait for the 4000 series release (which seems to be delayed, at least for everything that isn't a 4090).

    • Ya and they are saying 4090 would be higher than 3090 pricing. And the are trying to make xx90 card a main stream highend card by gimping xx80 card.

    • So basically about 5% performance uplift from 3080 10gb?

      • +1

Right on the heels of the 3080 Ti, which is right on the heels of the 3090, which is right on the heels of the 3090 Ti. The performance delta between the four is about 12%, relative to the 12GB 3080 performance.

The only caveat is that the performance gains are not consistent, as it has only select improvements versus the original 3080.

Check benchmarking to get an idea for your use case to see if the bandwidth bump is ideal for you.

        • They really made 3080 too good then didn't they. Similar to the 1080ti in its time.

          • +1

@m0usju1c3: It's more that they were pushing the limits of the architecture design.

Max GA102 has more benefits for very specific workloads, usually not games.

Lovelace will be dramatically different, with way less silly bottlenecks.

          • +1

@m0usju1c3: Yep, nvidia was worried about next gen consoles and RDNA2 was stronger competition this time. They had to push the 3080 from it's traditional X04 die to X02 dies that usually were for TI/Titan variants.

          • @m0usju1c3: Tremendous card. I have fond memory of the mining days on 2 1080ti seahawks in SLI. What a tremendous experience.

    • yeah but how many MH/s?

  • +6

I don't think this is a good deal since potentially its just the price cut they announced recently. Wait for a bit longer my friend

  • Better than the last 3080 12gb that was $1250, bought one, cheers, quite the step up from a 1660 lol…

    • +1

Ayyy, it's always so exciting upgrading GPUs lol. I'm on a 1660 too, it's okay for now but I'm itching to upgrade.

  • would this be a good buy at $1000 or continue waiting for the 4000 series?

    • History has shown, supply of new devices is hard to secure

If the new cards are $1000 everyone will want one, so supply will be hard to secure

History has also shown that leading up a new release, supply of the old drops. So you have a period where getting anything is very hard.

If you have a new, buy, if you don't and can wait 12 months, then wait

      • yeah, i had my house broken into and my pc stolen…i have built a new one since but have been running off onboard graphics. just waiting and waiting but now i have an opportunity to buy a 3080 12GB for about $1000 brand new (from a friend)

      • +1

Once 4090 is released, it will reduce the price of 3090 which will cascade into 3080. Hopefully!

      • +1

Word is 40 series was ordered on the basis of Crypto boom numbers, NVIDIA are staring down oversupply.

We may not have the usual historical lack this time around.

  • Wow I nearly bought one of these the other day for $120 more, I'm thinking just keep HODLing on, it might not get any better, but what if it does?! I'd almost rather it bounce up a tad and stay there, just to 'know' it's at the end of the line, great if it goes further, and not that bad if it's about this price anyway, incredible.

    • +1

Im not sure how much lower it will go honestly. i can maybe see it around $1100 as the lowest, but i just wouldn't know. i think it will be more out of stock before it hits this. These are low production models and were already phased out from last month or so.
I think its good enough to buy now honestly. Its $19 higher than the cheapest its ever been, but this model is significantly better than the Zotac that was for $1250

  • +9

My plan is to keep waiting, but never purchase a card.

    • Still too high really. they originally said is suppose to be like800-900.
      now with overstock is $1200+??????????

  • +6

Grabbed it yesterday, threw on a quick OC, +210core/+1100mem
    https://www.3dmark.com/spy/29640393
just a little bit faster than a stock 3090 at 20016 vs 19931

375w board limit 2x8p, runs into power limits at around 850-900mv, max I could do was around 2000mhz core before hitting power wall
passed time spy stability test at 99.4% consistency 20 loops
stays <64c core with fans at 1600-1800rpm (stock curve, 50-60% speed max), Memory junction at 78c max
very impressed with cooler, no need to re-pad or use copper shims with putty, memory is that low already

  • +1

    Paid $2700 for a 3080ti 6 months ago 🤡

    • Me tooo :/ I had no GPU then

  • Is the OC model from this deal worth the extra $120?

    • Wait til the recession fully kicks in :P

    • No, just overclock your one, or better yet undervolt it for lower temps and 50+ watts for a few % FPS drop.

    • The better bins go straight to the Strix cards, the OC model is likely the same GA102 bin with a more aggressive factory profile.
When manually OCing your limit is the 375w PL anyways, so generally no - maybe a extra 15-45mhz core once you max out both?
Which would translate into 1-2% actual performance difference. If you want to go a tier up, wait for 3080ti to crack 1500.

  • Don't buy now make those manufacturer sweat it out.
No more miners buying. Really = Too many supply.
They just wanna get rid of it before the 40xx.
So wait till they are dirt cheap.

    • +1

Not sure if these cards will still be available when the new gen hits the market. Suppliers can always divert the previous gen to other smaller markets, and put a premium on the new gen in the markets where they launch first. Happens all the time with automobiles and consumer electronics.

Edit: Been hodling for two years now, not sure anymore :(

      • 2 more months

      • +1

There will be plenty of cards on the second hand market shortly, biggest dump of used GPUs ever once POS kicks in.

  • Nah, maybe under 1k I may consider.

  • If it doesnt hit the $1k mark or lower your better off buying the 4000 series with some extra $$. Of course that depends on once they announce actual specs not ‘rumoured, leaked, speculated’ specs. That’ll just make 3000 series drop even more in prices if everyone waited for the “4000 series” wink wink.

  • +1

Looks like they have sweetened the deal by giving a $96 discount on the Kingston KC3000 when you purchase one of these

    https://www.bpctech.com.au/asus-gpu-ssd

    • Did they disable this promo? When i have both added to card the SSD Price does not changed.

I tried going all the way through to the payment and the discount didn't apply.

I could be doing something wrong. I have never purchased from BPC before so there might a trick to it I'm not doing

      • +1

Not too sure, usually when they do a buy one get one it automatically discounts in the cart.

Could be worth emailing them if you are committed to buying

  • HODL

Just a FYI my current wholesale price for this from the distributor is $1099. Expect prices to drop further.
