Special offer! Join now and get $50 Member dollars off your next booking for Virgin Blue users

It's so easy to be a HotelClub Member! Being a part of the HotelClub Membership Program gives you Access to over 40,000 hotels in 122 countries, including Last Minute Deals.

See terms and conditions (http://hotelclub.com.au/common/membership/MemConditions.asp) but this looks for real in 90% of bookings. For eg, if you are spending one night in Sydney you could stay for free with your $50 - as far as I can tell - at any of half a dozen backpacker type places (could even get 2 nights at some of their prices!), or for a few $ more you could stay at some nicer places.

  • I created an account via that Foxtel promotion which was posted on here a couple of months ago, but never got the $50. They also never replied to any e-mails I sent querying about this issue. So I dunno how successful you'll be here. I guess I'll create another account and see how I go…

EDIT: Just signed up, and it works!

    • I got mine immediately with the foxtel promo (which's still valid), so not sure what happened with yours..:(

  • Just signed up and it seems to credit you $50 instantly.

"You are logged in as XXX XXX. Silver Club Member. Member Dollars Available: USD 50.00"

    • +1 got the credit instantly :)

  • Current Account Balance: USD 50.00 More Details

    seems quite promising

    • $USD? Does this mean with the current exchange rate its worth even more than AUD$50 ?

  • So does the credit ever expire?

Are there many hotels that honour this?

  • nice….just tried it and got it…..

  • Most of the time you are better off just dealing with the hotels direct and you will save even more money than these sites that are offering accommodation and last minute deals.
My wife is staying with girl friends at Peppers Kingscliffe in November and she received a much better deal than any web site were offering.

  • Agree with tabfitz19 - check the price with the hotel directly before going ahead with Hotelclub.

Booked a night of accommodation in KL for approx. $178 AUD directly with the hotel, which was advertised on Hotelclub for $240 a night… which would wipe out the savings if you were staying more than one night.

Still a good deal, but be selective! :)

  • As this is a special promotion 50 Member Dollars will expire on 30 November 2008, otherwise all of the standard terms and conditions apply.

  • :)

Just did a quick check, and I found for at least the Victorian hotel I picked, it ended up being cheaper to book through hotelclub with the $50 discount. Without it, it was more.

Though that was for the one weekend that I picked, which was cup day weekend in Victoria.

  • great bargin!!

  • are you permitted to stay in a hotel if under 18? (im 17)

    • I don't see why not as long as you have a credit card and paid for the costs of the hotel. They don't ask how old you are when you check in.

And if I were a smart arse, I'd probably add that you can eat and drink and go to the toilet too if you're under 18. ;)

      • I dont have a credit card… are you able to use your parents??

        • I think so. As long as the room is paid I don't think they will be too fussed. Keep in mind though most hotels ask for your credit card as security when you check-in, but you can alternatively put down cash. Although I'd suggest to give the hotel itself a call before you book.

        • Depends on the kind of place you're staying at. Like cacbm says, some hotels may ask for the credit card to be certain you're who you are, but it varies. Like — I'd expect cheaper backpackers to be more lax. I think some don't mind passports too…so best thing would be to call them up and ask them about whether you need extra stuff.

And yeah, shop around when it comes to hotels. Like Stella hotels (the chain in charge of the Breakfree line) has a buy three nights get one free deal on their website, which, however, is not reflected in hotelclub, even though the room costs are slightly lower.

          • @jennkei: At this stage im thinking of either "The vicoria all seasons hotel" or "the hotel grand chancellor" both in melbourne…

They both seem fairly good value, any thoughts?

            • @[Deactivated]: Are you going to Melbourne? When? Check Wotif and Lastminute. The Eight Hotel chains have pretty decent hotels too.

              • @cacbm: Yeah im going to melbourne in december.

          • @jennkei: Exactly. I normally check TripAdvisor.com to check real customer reviews and photos. They have a nice function that checks multiple sites at once.

For Aussie hotels I generally check wotif.com and lastminute.com.au , for overseas hotels, I generally use TripAdvisor's function and check a few sites for the same dates. Checking the hotel's own website is an absolute must if you want the best rate. Sometimes they have best rate guarantee.

            • @cacbm: not all the time you will get best rate from hotel website directly, i know a lot of time wotif and lastminute will offer better rate(mostly during weekend)

but during the weekdays the trick to get best rate is to call hotel reservation directly and tell them you work for a reputable company (like sony, senofi, microsoft) and they will give you there corporate rate which will be way less then of standard on going rate. and from my experience most of the time they will not even do a verification of your claim.

              • @Al-Melbs: Yeah 90% of the time Wotif and Lastminute will give you a better rate but I'd check the hotel's rate just in case.

The special mystery hotel deals such as Mystery hotel on lastminute.com.au and Wot Hotel on wotif.com are REALLY REALLY good. Do a bit of research and you can find out what the hotels actually are and they are quite significantly cheaper than other website rates.

  • All the decent hotel except those backpackers type will need a credit card guaranty for incidental charge during Check in. But there is 2 work around for this hassle

    1) Make a cash deposit during C/I, the amount will be the total of your stay charge + some $50~$100 Per day for those incidentals
    2) Fill up a credit card authorization form from ur parents (or from the credit card holder) with the photocopy of the card and signature.

and if you are under 18 then most of the decent hotel will not be interested to accommodate you and if they do then they will take a photocopy of a acceptable photo id and your address.
