The people that are buying this monitor have powerful computers. A cheap 65” 4K tv with 60hz referees rate and slow response time doesn’t cut it.

    • -2

      yeah nah

  • -1

Would much rather get the 55" LG C1 Oled at that price (well maybe a bit more…).

    • +5

Depends on who your asking. I wouldn't game on a 55" or a 65", especially when I enjoy sitting at my desk with a keyboard and mouse.

      • -6

Just get a bigger desk bro. The C1 has VRR 120Hz as well.

    • -5

Too large and 120hz is quite slow especially for PC gaming.

      • +7

120Hz is not slow for pc gaming lmao.

        • -3

When we have 360hz monitors now and soon to have 500hz monitors, yeah it is.

          • @Axelstrife: How many games do you get more than 120Hz in though?

            • @mortymorty: Probably 99% of them.
              I have 5950x/RTX 3090

              • @Axelstrife: OK cool, personally I'd rather the fastest refresh OLED for the picture quality and perfect blacks over anything else available.

I'm not a competitive gamer though.

                • @mortymorty: So do i, that's why i already have the AW3423DW which is 175hz i'd love it to be 240hz but OLED is too amazing to pass up considering i dont even think there is a 240hz Ultrawide.

                  • @Axelstrife: No worries, enjoy it.

I got FO48U and couldn't be happier. Well, I could be happier but not much. Anyway I wouldn't be happier with a smaller screen now. 48" 120Hz is perfect for me.

                    • @mortymorty: 48" is much more reasonable than 55" so close to your face.

Personally if my setup wasn't the way it is and the AW3423DW didn't exist i could live with the LG C2 42" but i'd still miss the higher refresh rate.
https://i.ibb.co/dBHdD4N/IMG-0514.jpg - excuse the mess ive been working on my Unraid plex server PC (under desk).
I built a hutch kinda thing for my old ikea desk, it fits 34" monitors perfectly and have my speakers and PC tower above and to the right (not in picture) i have my PS5, Switch and Xbox Series S consoles.

                      • @Axelstrife: Haha, funny to see my own post in someone else's picture!

I agree that 55" is too much. I would want to sit maybe 2m away from it, and then it seems silly because why not just sit closer with a smaller screen. 48" is my limit per screen I think. Could probably go bigger if it was curved though.

Perfect for me would probably be two 48" next to each other, but my desk wasn't wide enough for that so I have my "old" 43" in portrait next to the 48" in landscape.

I like it, but 43" in portrait is a bit silly - I don't use the top 1/3 of the screen much because it's like staring upwards at the ceiling.

I know a few other brands are bringing out oled monitors later in the year, prices will come down with a bit more competition

You could be waiting a while if you order from Dell, I ordered one on the 13th when it was $1496 and it's currently due to be delivered on September 5th

    • Thanks for sharing this insight.

    • Sheesh

    • I ordered a 32" gaming monitor from them last week and it arrived in three business days

      • these are built to order, so they take a little longer

    • Dell told me there's a parts shortage at the moment. My monitor is due to arrive September 16th.

Hope it comes sooner rather than later.

  • +5

They need to make a 38" 3840x1600 version then I'll sit up and listen.

    • +3

And include the USBC KVM while they're at it

    • Will be over 2000$ and might take a while to come below sub 2k.

  • +3

I sold my AW3821DW and bought this AW3423DW , got it 2 weeks ago , did not regret it, Really good monitor
38 inch is a bit too big for gaming (In my opinion)

    • Do you use it for work too? How is it for splitting screen in 2?

  • +1

Thanks OP, keen to swap this out for my old acer Predator x34. Poor thing can't even reliably overclock past 90Hz anymore aha.

  • +1

    Also U3821DW @ $1480 for the non-gamers

    • QDOLED >> IPS

      • 38in > 34in for viewing 2 webpages side by side… ;)

        • If you see my other posts I have a 48" 16:9 OLED.

          So I agree. :-)

  • -5

I bought the 48" FO48U OLED for $1099 a couple of weeks ago and it is great.

This monitor seems like a ripoff to me for only 34". Slightly better colors than other OLEDs but gray blacks in a lit room because of the coating and pentile layout pixels.

And it still has burnin risk like other OLEDs.

    No thanks.

    • +1

If you enjoy playing on 48” then it’s probably for you. But hardcore PC gamers won’t enjoy playing on anything above generally a 27”-32”

With that 4K monitor of yours, I’d assume your a console player? That 4K monitor would require a decent GFX card to run, however, only running at 120hz and free sync only, it’s not for everyone. This Alienware monitor is by far the best thing I’ve laid my eyes on. Won’t go back to anything less now.

      • I'm only a (very) casual gamer, on PC.

I just like the massive screen space for webpages and youtube most of the time.

Why does it need any special GPU? You can run it at any resolution you want. Also you can scale the game to whatever size you want.

It has G-Sync as well as Freesync since Firmware F05. See https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/gigabyte/aorus-fo48u-…

        It even has 120Hz BFI.

21:9 34" would be back to something less for me for sure.

Of course 175Hz and ever so slightly better colors would be better, but pentile pixel layout and the coating that makes blacks gray in daylight is not something I would trade for.

The one I ordered from Dell a month ago today has an estimated shipping date of September 2nd. Site says "Usually Ships within 2 months" which is probably accurate

      • +1

Additional data point, I ordered 27th of July with expected shipping date 16th of Sept. Similar time for manufacture as yours it would seem.

LG C2 or Sony A90K or this? So many choices now, hard to decide!

      • Been waiting forever on the A90K

        • According to Sony's website you can buy a a90k but it's only 48"

          • +1

@Lordeee: 48" is too large, I'm waiting for the 42" and it seems like VideoPro has the 42" at $2890, only $100 cheaper than the 48" LOL

        • -8

Obviously too many idiots just want to silence me for saying the truth rather than contributing anything else useful for buyers meh

          • +3

@plmko: Bruh. My guess is it's because you're clearly all butt hurt about fake internet points. Relax..it's Sunday. Go have fun.

    • +8

I have this one. Personally I won't recommend it as it's the first OLED monitor.
You need to do Pixel Refresh every 4 hours which usually takes about 5-7 minutes. After Pixel Refresh, the monitor will turn off so you need to manually turn it on. The whole process is really annoying.
Yes, you can skip Pixel Refresh , but every 20 hours it's mandatory and you can't skip.

      • +7

That's a bug with the first version of the firmware M0B101, speak to dell as that should not be happening.

My monitor with the newer M0B102 firmware does not have this issue and works perfectly, I gamed for 14 hours straight a few days ago and definitely did not have any pixel refresh pop ups.

The only pop up you should ever get for pixel refresh is the first one which is 4 hours after you turn it on, after you click proceed to dismiss that it wont return.

        • I gamed for 14 hours straight

          Ah I miss those days!

      • -1

Aaaand this is why AW3821DW FTW!

Think I'm just going to skip OLED monitors tbh. What's the next tech we can get big UWs in after OLED?

        • +4

          Mini led

        • -1

Same, I have an oled tv and while it’s great. I prefer the constant brightness of an led tv

          • @JMxoxo: Guess no one’s got an old oled tv that loves to yo-yo in brightness

      • Damn that’s terrible. Now let me buy it off you then lol.

      • Something wrong with yours? I have the same but don’t have this

    • So how bright are these puppies compared to an IPS monitor?

      • +1

Not very, look to be sub-250 nits for SDR :-(

        https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/dell/alienware-aw3423…

        • Having a monitor thats only functional if I shut every window in the house or only use it for an hour or two after work, dinner, etc (and that only in winter) was a no.,

Same reason I sold my Sony OLED. It looked amazing, the once a week I used it. Any other time it was incredibly dim, washed out piece of shit.

    • And SDR is brighter than normal content?

      • SDR is most of the content you’ll be viewing.

This thing realistically maxes out at 400 nits. Even then testing shows it starts to drop off significantly if you have more than 25% white on the screen, which in a lot of web browsing and productivity situations you’ll be well and truly past.

    • Can't wait for a 16:9 pc oled.

  • first heard of this monitor on Tuesday, ordered Wednesday and just arrived now on Friday. Loving it!

    • burnt in on Saturday? :)

      • Monitor is probably too dim to tell.
