Yes, however price is rumoured to increase by US$100 and 14 non-pro models will use the same A15 chip:

      • Worth it for usb C chargingā€¦ if it comes.

        • I doubt apple will change the non-pro models to USB-C. They would rather spend a billion dollars fighting the EU over an obsolete connector than admit they were wrong.

$1199 at Jbhifi - less if you have access to vouchers

    • Agree. Higher % discounted gift cards and less chance of getting a used phone than buying from Amazon.

    • +4

Even better is if you ask JB to price match Amazon for the extra $2 savings ;)

      • Officeworks?

        • True, looks like Amazon are matching OWā€™s prices :)

  • why are the larger screen ones always so much more, such bs

    • +57

      I think itā€™s the larger screenā€¦

    • +4

Bigger screen, bigger battery, better camerasā€¦ these all cost a bit more. And in reality the cost difference might not be as much but companies sell things for what consumers are willing to pay and not for what it cost them to manufacture.

      • My 65" OLED was cheaper than a 6inch iPhone

    • +4

Wonders of price laddering. Pay a bit more to get ā€œbetterā€ grade.

    • +1

larger screen ones always so much more, such bs

Yes, such bs, when TVs and monitors are priced that way too eh… /s

      • +2

Such BS when a 75ā€ costs almost the same šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

        • Consumers are dummies. They do not wise to make sensible analysis as you.

    • +1

Let me know if you are keen to pay more for a smaller screen. I can offer you one.

    • +1

      larger screen

      Yes, it's a mystery alright

    • Because the larger ones thus far have been part of Pro series (aside from XS Max). That will change this year as they'll have 14, 14 Max, 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max.

  • +10

The real BS is the extra $100 cost Apple charges for every additional 64GB of inbuilt memory…

    • +3

People still buy the iPhones though at that higher price. As a company, why wouldn't you try and bleed as much as you can from your customers?
It's an easy solve. If everyone stopped buying iPhones, they will be forced to reduce the price. But seems most people are okay paying a premium.

      • I've never bought an iphone, so I'm doing my part for the world.

        • +1

I too love to waste my time making multiple comments in threads about products I'll never buy.

Nothing says "I don't care" more than incessantly banging on about something that doesn't affect me.

          • -1

            @GrueHunter: Oh the irony..
(My previous comment was a joke, you dolt. Learn to humour.)

        • -1

Wow, good joke. Wouldn't it be a shame if some absolute drongo named GrueHunter were to not recognise this fact and come up with some ironically stupid comment about wasting time making multiple comments.. Oh wait.

I am also doing my part. In truth after the S10 i stopped buying samsung because they too have gone done the apple root.

        • they want me to pay $1500 for a phone and not give me a chaRgwr?
        • What do you use as a phone now?

        • After the S20, am no longer going to buy Samsung phones. Their quality control is not what it once was & they are similarly priced to iPhones now.

Even though there is the apple-tax/prenium price of apple products, they seem to last for longer.
          (Just my experience)

Chad Telstra day vs Virgin Amazon prices

  • Both Apple and Google know where your phone is or has been. Your location is ON even when you think it's OFF. Your settings are only for third-party apps. You may not care. Just be aware.

The only real solution? Custom open-source firmware such as LineageOS on a supported device, plus a nice f-droid.org app diet. Apple devices have no open-source options.

Don't think anyone cares anymore. Last week it was confirmed Tik Tok/China has all your data but seems the consensus was that most people were willing and happy to give China that data in exchange for Tik Tok entertainment.

      • +3

Yes. I have no doubt that 99.9ā„…+ do not care about their privacy nor understand the implications for them and the information that they eventually get to see on their device (that includes my family), but I post for those that do.

      • I care

        • You do but 900 million iPhone users don't

          • @illusion99: Yeah I'm sure your non-Apple phone isn't spewing data to cell towers

And it protects you all the cameras that can track you and have facial recognition

And tracks down and destroys data stored by car parks that read your plates

And EFTPOS machines that also put you in a particular place at a particular time

I mean if someone cares enough about wanting to know where you are they can look at you with their eyes, but I'm sure your awesome phone stops that too

            You're special

            • @GrueHunter: You tagged the wrong person lol. It was stephendt and Iowgo who were going on about the evil iPhones not me

      • Crazy. I don't give them my data.

All smartphone collect your data/location ect. Go back to 1996 startac or Nokia 3200?

      • Even with those, Telstra/Optus/Vodafone know where you are based on which mobile tower you are connecting to.
Maybe stick with the landlines phones?

        • US listens through telecom cables. Prob just go back to stoneage.

          • @sfac: What happens when you get kidnapped by the Grabber? How will they find you without your phone?

All smartphone collect your data/location ect. Go back to 1996 startac or Nokia 3200?

The phone companies have a more approximate location. What google and Apple get is your locaton within feet. That is not solved by going SIMless. As long as you go online, that is transmitted to them.

The super-invasive data collection going to Apple and Google includes sensor data (did you enter a car, are you walking?), app usage statistics, etc. All tied to your real ID. Even when SIMless. Plus more. Basically a detailed spy device the likes of which we have never seen in the Nokia days.

            @cortex: Thanks for the tip.
And yes, looking now it does appear to be 50 bucks cheaper than anywhere else for the 128GB model.
Might still hold out for a sale. Hopefully there'll be a big clearance when the 14 is released, especially if Apple has plans to discontinue the form-factor.
