Waiting for $100. đź‘Ť but this a damn good price.

  • Do you need to update the firmware if you’re using it as additional storage for the ps5?

    • +8

You don't need to but depending on which firmware it ships with the ps5 may show speeds of 5700mb - 6500mb. Purchased mine some time in April/May this year from jb and it shipped with older firmware so ps5 only reporting speds of 5700mb/s.

        Cheers!

  • Hey, I literally asked BPC for a price match on this 3 hours ago.

    • Were they willing to price match?

      • Still waiting for a reply. Highly doubtful though since this is from Amazon UK.

        • And now Amazon is out of stock, so I definitely don't think they'll price match now

  • Anyone know if this one with heatsink going to fit in
"ORICO M2PV-C3 Type-C M.2 NVME SSD Enclosure USB3.1 10Gbps External Box Case", I can see form factor is 2280, but my concern is if it will fit with its heatsink?

    • even if you could get it to fit in the enclosure with the heatsink, it would be pointless to do so. just remove the heatsink or get an enclosure that also incorporates a heatsink if you really need it.

    • Summoning netsurfer for advice.

  • And she's gone.

  • Bought 3 thanks op :)

  • Alot of people are finally upgrading there storage on there ps5 with this price :D I have had my 2tb version of this for my PS5 since they released the firmware update to put extended storage ssd's in. If I didn't have it I wouldn't be happy with the ps5.

        there there there there there.

  • Damn missed this but hopefully more similar deals on the way

  • What is the best 1Tb Nvme if my MB only support PCIE 3.0?

    • +1

The listed drive is backward compatible so it would a great boot drive, imo!

      • +1

the 980 pro is tempting for me also, my MB has heatsink for the main NVME drive BUT being able to take the boot drive to a new MB and getting PCIE 4 means longevity and no need to clone the drive.

Seems most of the buzz for PCIE 4 is coming from PS5 owners not PC owners ? Is this because for PC owners boot up between PCIE3 and PCIE4 is small vs PS5 users who have some sort of compatability requirement ?

        • You make a good point about the PC owners vs PS5, I would imagine it would be balanced or more PC but lots of people now with power cost considerations and would be interested to know the actual stats on how many PC folks have abandoned ship to PS5.

  • Damn missed it :(

    • ? It's still available

You replied to a 3 week old comment.

  • I remember getting the 2TB one of this for about $495 and I got a free $70 dollar steam gift card. that was September last year though. still going strong in the PS5 with my cheopo heatsink :D

  • Will this fit in my x1 carbon

    • Anyone know. How to check. The specs say m.2

  • Question guys. If I want to use this as my boot drive SSD in the PC, what is the best way to transfer my current Windows installation to the new drive without having to reinstall everything from scratch?

My scenario: I have a 250GB SSD as my boot drive. It is getting small. I want a bigger capacity SSD with minimal hassle of reinstalling everything.

    Clone the drive?

Macrium Reflect worked best for me. Lots of great feedback.

      • +1 for Macrium. Worked really well for me as well.

You should reinstall everything. Honestly, it doesn't take as long as you might think. Most games/productivity apps cloud sync things like settings and saves now.

Windows tends to grind to a relative halt every few years if you don't.

Ninite is a great way to kick of installing a solid base of apps.

      • Thanks for the Ninite tip, I just got a new drive and was trying decide if i had time for a fresh install

    • +1

Here's what I'm gonna do as an idea. Take the 250gb out and do a clean install, if you realise then that there are too many things to set up or very specific things then do a migration.

  • +1

Thanks OP, finally pulled the trigger. No need to uninstall games in PS5 anymore.

Any point if I already have a 970 EVO?

  • What's a good thunderbolt 3 or thunderbolt 4 enclosure for this? I have a macbook pro and want s fast external drive.

  • Seems that most people are getting this with the older firmware still on it. Older stock?

  • -1

    HODL 990 Pro is out..

    • I think they hit a performance bottleneck, the 990 pro isn't much better. 4k read speed stayed the same at 22000 iops.

I'd say Elpis based 970 evo plus is the best VFM atm for PC use.

      • +1

Agreed, but may drop the price of this further.

Thanks. Back in stock and ordered

  • Is this any good to expand the IdeaPad 5 Pro 16ACH6 storage, mine came with the 512gb.
and is the heat sink removeable?

  • good price buy it

  • Just bought one, thanks

  • Yep, finally decided to get another SSD for the PC… Although… PS5… I will just get 2! Problem solved

  • +1

Does the heatsink interfere with installation on motherboards?

    • Just had a look, the heatsink is easily removed if there is size issues

      • Yep the removal seems pretty straightforward!

        • There's no risk of overheating if it's used as an OS drive with some games on it right?

          • @navman: Nah man, this is the same as the normal one you buy it just has a heatsink on it haha - deff not going to overheat taking it off, ill likely be doing the same

      • Do note that this seem to void warranty.

Thanks OP, got one for the new Acer laptop picked up the other day along with the 1TB MX500 from yesterday.
"Deals" on OzBargain bleeding me dry, may have to take a week or so out from checking it.

    • Received my SSD yesterday, unfortunately the screw under the warranty sticker did not want to play.
So have stuck this one in the PS5 and will order an SSD without heatsink from the deal at https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/721183
