Received an e-mail that Rockby Electronics is doing 20% off store-wide for online orders, with discount made at invoicing from today, until Friday 5th Aug for stock on-hand.

Seems like the Raspberry Pi 4 4GB Model B for $83.60 (after discount) is a good deal.

Also, there's a monster 12.8V 200AH LiFePO4 battery which should come out to $1075 after the discount.

Yes, the deliver. Pricing is here And yes, their website looks like its from the year 2000.

Nobody needs any more than the pdf.

  • And I thought gamedude had a terrible website…

These look like pre-orders, showing no stock.

  • I don't mind the old look of the website and it renders super fast. The unforgivable sin is using a script to disable right click and F12.

      • hey, have you got one for sites that mess with Ctrl+Click? ie Bunnings, COTD, etc.? edit: I guess NoScript will work there too… i used to run it, but it was a lot of work to get sites going. I guess I could limit it to just the sites that block 'new tab links'.

A custom tampermonkey script is likely the best, the same for this site. Noscript is a blunt instrument that breaks most sites

The same model Raspberry Pi is $92.40 delivered at Element14, normal price: https://au.element14.com/raspberry-pi/rpi4-modbp-4gb/raspber…

So unless you can pick up from store, or combine with an order you were already placing with them, Rockby is more expensive, as their cheapest delivery option is $13.50.

    • Did you click on that Element14 link…

"More stock available to supplier lead times which is approximately 7/08/23"

      • It's OOS at Rockby too, and worldwide. None of the major suppliers have any, and lead times have been extending since the start of this year.

The only place you can buy them is at marketplaces like ebay, amazon and AliExpress, where a few speculators bought up big last year, and are now selling at twice the price. Or more likely, they're lying and don't have any stock, and will try to fob you off with a clone.

        • Can you suggest a good clone?

          • @Gustavo Fring: I've never used a clone, and my RPi is a model 1B with 512k RAM, quite ancient.

However, I have heard of the Orange Pi, but you'll have to do your own research to find out if it's suitable or sufficiently compatible.

I also know of a non-compatible small Linux board called the BeagleBone, but I have no personal experience with that one either.

If you just want something to do something very simple, like turn on a relay or two to control a motor to open your curtains, controlled wirelessly from your mobile phone, search for ESP8266 and ESP32.
