[NSW] PS5 Disc Version $749 @ JB Hi-Fi (Castle Towers, Castle Hill)

820

First time poster : (edit: Turns out I did post before, and that was a deal on PS4 pro )

The deal is that they have ready stock :)
I was there to swap a defective item and saw them fielding calls for PS5 disc version. Snagged one for myself.
Possible that other JB HiFi might have some stocks too. Call your local store.
Ps: they are not on website but they have stock in store. First come first serve, as per the store assistant.

OP walks in to return defective screen protector, leaves with a new PS5

    • +8

      $750 lighter.

    • +5

LOL. Close enough, It was a defective LIFX.

      • Castle Towers or JB Home Castle Hill

        • Castle Towers. Sorry, I will update the title.

    • +4

      Talk about upselling

  • +16

No rush, will wait for PS6 :)

    • +2

If you can't get a PS5 now what makes you think you can get a PS6 when it's out? ; )

      • +3

Will wait for PS6 and buy a PS5.

          • +6

@OzComment: Unlike compressed video, games require a tone of bandwidth speed to show good resolution.
E.g. HDMI 2.0 has 18Gbps bandwidth, while a lot of Aussies cant get a stable 100Mbps connection.
Adding latency to it and yeah, nah. Consoles are not going anywhere anytime soon.

            • @Pest85: I'm already playing a few cloud games with the setup I mentioned and I'm pretty happy about it, both in terms of graphic quality and respond time.

Internet is 5G which should be getting more and more common here instead of waiting for 1000Mbps connection from NBN.

By the time PS6 is out probably we're even talking about 6G.

PS5 has not yet even reached its half live I'm pretty positive regarding my comment about we may not be getting a PS7.

              • +1

@OzComment: The vast majority of users who have tried cloud gaming, the fact that cloud gaming has widely failed and the fact that latency is an unsolvable issue would disagree with you.

Its great if you dont feel the latency issues but most gamers do, there are entire markets of monitors to get better and better response times, mice to get higher polling rate, higher refresh, etc that gamers DO engage in. These are things that are never going to change because you cannot change the laws of physics.

                • @SmoothCactus: everyone is already playing game online more than a decade ago and your latency is always as good as the server can receive. There is nothing changed in terms of latency here no matter what gear you are using.

    • A5t least a PS5 Pro

  • Lucky OP. Every time I asked in-store staff in QLD they always said OOS.

    • +5

Been there in your shoes and I had given up. This was by pure chance. It’s likely that other stores received stocks too, so you might want to try your luck!

      • +1

I reckon most stores have excessive amount of pre-orders so they need to fulfill those first.

        • The store assistant said that they stopped preorders. So these are first come first serve.

  • any stores around bankstown that have ?

    • -2

Probably not,try cashys down there, prob enough of them stolen in the area i guess

  • -1

Do they have more than 10 available?

    • +1

The store assistant said they had “plenty” as per her terminal. She did not give me a number.

    • Yes

  • +3

i got my ps4 from JB when they got their Christmas allocation during the first month or so of the original release

with the PS5 its just been a nightmare trying to get one, iv just given up

    • +5

I reckon it's a waste of time for a 2yo console. I will wait until the slim/pro version is released.

      • +2

I don’t think you will see a pro version anytime soon, given the shortages. But there is a possibility of slim version as a cost cutting exercise. Usually they introduce the variants as the excitement dies down, but this cycle of consoles (and pc) has been a bit weird.

        • Shortage maybe a problem, but the main reason for the upgrade is the hardware update.
The console components have to be updated to catch up the requirements of 3A.

      • +1

i don't think it will be that soon, how long you wait for a ps5 to be 'mainstream available' without this sort of 'rush' is probably going to happen for the next iteration.

also not sure if you are aware of, even within ps5 consoles, there are different variants…

      • I was hoping for a slim as well. But managed to snag one at my local JB today after reading the OP.

    • +2

Supply will increase these holidays. Try to follow those PS5 twitter accounts to increase your odds. Best of luck.

    • True, but I think the supply should ease up going forward. The GPU demands are easing up and impending recession means demand for consoles will slow down. So I think we will start seeing more stocks everywhere. Who knows we might even see some discounts on the console s (one can hope!).

    • +1

I bought one at launch, still have it. Probably used for under 5 hours. You're honestly not missing out on much, pc gaming is just way better lol.

  • +7

I got mine a few months ago and the performance upgrade from PS4 Pro is just another level. I have Dell 32" 4K 144hz monitor and every game runs at native 4k 60fps+ smooth as butter. And now with PS Plus Deluxe subscription, there are more games in my library than I can play. Given the console costs less than RTX 3070, you can't go wrong with this if you have a 4K monitor and want to enjoy 4k game play.

  • There's no reason why this wouldn't work with this 5% cashback on JB Hi-Fi gift cards right?
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/717713

    • +16

Would work fine, but you don't want to buy the gift cards and not be able to get a PS5. Then you'd be stuck with the gift cards. I'd suggest going to the store first and getting the sale set up, and then saying you just want to look around at some other stuff, while you are buying the gift cards

  • +3

Probably OS by the time this is posted. :)

    • -1

      Overseas?

      • -1

        Out of stock.

        • Why didn't you use the correct abbreviation?

  • +6

I'm live here at the moment, saw someone walk out with one and they are getting one for me now (if there are any left!)

    • Good luck and post us with stock numbers if you can!

      • +1

Just got mine, while I was there, 2 other people bought one each and the phone was ringing non stop with people asking about them..They said they still have both disc and digital versions, but did not say how many they have left. They are not reserving, it is for walk ins, first come first serve.

        • +2

Lol, those store guys must be hating me now.

          • @a b i: Yes - castle towers store guys

            • @FizzyLamanade: I’m sorry! I did for fake internet points.
To be fair, a lot of us has been waiting to get hold of one for a long time.

              • +2

@a b i: We're all buggered now lmao but thanks for the advertising ig

                • +1

@FizzyLamanade: This is why ozbargain can be a pain sometimes
                  '
Soon as any deal gets posted on this site,it's pretty much (profanity) it for anyone else

Had been you could of asked and just got one,but thanks to OZB it gets nuked lol

              • @a b i: They way it was set up, only those who were relatively local would have been able to get one. There were not many in stock to begin with and I was surprised that stock was still available over an hour after you posted on OzB. So I don't think it got Ozbargained and hence I don't see what you would apologise for, other than this was more OzInStock!

I liked it that the staff were telling those phone callers that it was first come first serve and no reservations! Imagine the callers' disappointment!

    • let see here:
      - supply issue still there (but getting better), demand remains the highest of any console ever
      - great innovative controller with plenty of tech inside
      - powerful system that can hold up its own to a gaming pc for 4k60 or even 120fps in some games
      - can play UHD 4k discs
      - PS4 backward compatibility
      - runs quiet
      - lightning fast SSD performance
      - have popular exclusive titles on it
      - have superb value subscription catalogue
      - $750

      • +1

The games that are 120fps aren’t graphically demanding or are very limited like car racing or FPS games, platformers etc. rather ray tracing and ultra graphics while @ 60fps (sadly these consoles can handle that at 30fps full ray tracing) than graphics that look washed it @ 120fps

        • +1

Yes 120hz games are limited, yes it's the graphics are scaled back. Still, it's only $750 for all that capabilities, it's not meant to go head to head with $2,000 gaming pc.

      • -1

No need to get snarky. Its just weird is all!

    • +1

      Yes it is.

Whilst at JB Hifi Castle Towers to get PS5, go and get 9 pieces of KFC for $9.95 just across JB Hifi. 2 bargains with 1 trip!

    • +3

This man knows how to have fun.

    • +2

      True ozbargainer right here!

    • +3

Might accidentally spawn an impromptu OzBargain gathering lol

    • +2

      Did someone say KFC???

  • Has anyone played Gran Turismo 7? I'm tempted to buy a PS5 for just that game

    • +2

nothing to write home about tbh, I enjoyed Forza 7 more a few years ago when it come out.

    • +1

Has anyone played Gran Turismo 7? I'm tempted to buy a PS5 for just that game

      It's amaaaaazing.

      • You forgot the /s

    • +2

If you enjoyed GT4, you will enjoy GT7. But it is in no man's land, not a proper simulator like Assetto Corsa and yet not as fun as Forza Horizon 5.

    • You mean bad Forza?

    • It's a very good game. But the roulette is set at 95% to give you the lowest amount

  • any other stores have?

    • Yes

      DeLorean you need.

  • +1

I was just at that specific JB price-matching an iPhone 13 with Telstra for my dad.

For what little time I stood in queue, two blokes had bought PS5's. The clerk even jokingly asked if I was there to buy a PS5 too lol.

    • Which jb store?

      • +1

I was referencing the JB store as stated in this post, so Castle Towers (NSW).

  • Is there OZB line with the jb gift cards? :)

  • +1

My friend just visited this store and apparently all the PS5 is out of stock now.

    Can anyone else confirm?

    • Called in and they said it was out of stock

  • +2

Mate of mine just went to West Lakes in SA, and they are allowing pre orders in store, with possible delivery next week.

    • My understanding is that as soon as a JB is allocated stock for their next shipment, they will allow pre-orders for however many units the store has been allocated. Full payment is required at the time of preordering.

      • That is what the staff member told my mate too.

      • He received it today, just seems SA was a day behind,

  • I managed to secure the disc version on Friday from JB Maribyrnong store in Melbourne.
They still had a few in stock as of last week.

    It's worth calling around.

  • Surprises you can still get the standalone console? I thought it was taken over by the Horizon bundle.

  • +1

There's talks of a price increase on these so if you havent gotten one yet, might want to hurry.

    • +1

      Source?

      • It was mentioned in the corporate earnings call
