Damn prices are headed down down down

  • +16

Will quickly drop another $100 to $200, but completely pointless purchase in the face of $1100 12 GB RTX 3080s, and $999 6900XT offerings.

And those in turn are pointless with NVIDIA likely to announce the 40 series at Gamescom.

    • +5

Yep, it's still comfortably the worst price-to-performance of any current GPU. Twice the price of the 6900XT at essentially the same performance.

      • 3090 Ti is better than 6900XT.
But yes, 6900XT is much better value.

    • Depends, My partner does renderings and such and while the processor is the most important, some programs need the power from GFX, 3090ti is the best for that that I'm aware of - but open to alternatives?

      • +1

Your partner would need to look into the specific for their use case, and benchmarks and data for those related rendering applications.

If VRAM is a big issue, the 3090 Ti might be worth their while, but regardless I would be telling them to sit tight for 4090 news in 2 weeks. It will trigger 3090 Ti price drops, as well as potential be better value for money, even if it winds up being closer to $3000 than $2000.

        • +1

          Great advice cheers!

According to this, some board partners are dropping their pants to clear stock:

EVGA momentarily offered its premium custom-design GeForce RTX 3090 Ti FTW3 graphics card at nearly half its original price.

The company listed the RTX 3090 Ti FTW3 at $1,149, a $1,000 "instant discount" from its $2,149 original list price, which is nearly $1,500 down from the card's street price before the crypto-mining crash of Q2-2022.

      In the USA.
      Not seeing this here.
We have seen a few choice picks, but not getting the same offers, neither is Euroupe

      • It will soon be, price will flow through soon, otherwise no one will buy it.

    • Man, people been blowing this out of proportion. It was only EVGA and it was only the overpriced(vs performance) 3090ti but everyone's acting like it was a price crash across all the 30 series.

      • Yep, US and EVGA alone, don’t know why this needs to be spelt out but australia is not America

    • Look, I get that it may be a real sore point for those who bought a GPU at the crazy peak but we all know that it was mainly crypto that was driving prices to insane levels, rather than gamers but the likes of NVIDIA are now admitting this:

For Nvidia, its numbers show a rollback in consumer buying patterns toward 2020, when the company reported just $1.65 billion in gaming revenue in the same quarter — making it a 23.66 percent increase today in comparison.

But with the GPU shortage suddenly over, cryptocurrency miners driven out of the picture by the combination of plunging prices and potential technology changes, and a new generation of 40-series graphics chips just around the corner, Nvidia is once again in the position of trying to entice gamers with free games if they upgrade their cards.

  • I expect more down days.

Why would anyone think $2000 is a good deal for 2 year old tech that's about to be surpassed? A 4080 will definitely be cheaper than this and easily out perform it and it will most likely be out within the next 3-4 months. This card will drop in price next month once the 4090 gets announced. You'll be able to get a 3080 for $1000 or less soon. Why pay double the price for like 15 percent more performance. Seems like a ridiculous performance to price ratio . These will be under $1500 in a few months or close to it

    • I would think majority would pass this deal in the light of what you said.

      • Well there is always the possibility of never getting one due to scalpers, crypto mining not dying etc until 2 years later. Ie a repeat of the 3xxx series

    • +2

Isn't their talk that the 4000 series costs 75% more to produce?

If that's the case people expecting the cards to be significantly better price:performance wise might get a little bit of a shock.

      • +1

They're not going to be able to increase the price much over what they have the from the msrp they launched these cards with .AMD cards are apparently cheaper to produce and going to be a huge threat this time around. IF AMD keep their prices the same it will be a big ask to buy an expensive power hungry nvidia card over a cheaper more efficient AMD card. I don't think nvidia can afford to be as greedy this time around if AMD is going to price competitively. Which I think they will , but who knows. Either way , buying a 3090ti for anything over $1,500 is a bad idea lol

    • +6

Because its still today's tech, if the new tech is not out yet, regardless when it was released. If you need/want it today, you still need/want it today. I personally know a few friend who recently went for the 3090 with the price drop, as they have specific use and needed it (not for gaming), and this price will still make many very happy. The 3090 was never aim for the majority target audience and gamers anyway.

    • Not to mention its a bottom of the barrel galax (throws up in mouth) card.

  • +4

Because this is a pre-order is it fair to assume some warehouse somewhere is dumping them, and retailers are buying them at the reduced prices and then offering deals like this thinking the market will still be keen to buy?

Regardless of specs, a $2k GPU is insane to me

  • +7

you'd have to be insane or desperate to pay $2k for a GPU at this time

    • +3

      Or have money.

Does anybody on Ozbargain have expensive hobbies? A downpipe for my car costs north of $800.00.

I am a massive tightass too guys but stop acting incredulous that humans spend money on hobbies they love. A 2k GPU with the amount people use it is actually great entertainment value.

A $500 one is more so, but it's still only $1500.00. Many many people can afford $1500 difference for a hobby.

      • If you think its going to stop at $1500 you'll be sadly mistaken. They are getting people ready for the continued price increases over the next decade. Look at what Apple did to the phone market. No thanks.

        • Like the $600 Samsung Flagships lately? What exactly is wrong with the phone market again

          • +1

@Dvbargain: It was under a 1K for a while then Apple started doubling prices. They asked Apple CEO why he was doing this and he said it's no longer just a phone but camera, video player, compass, map, trainer, on and on. Hint, we're going to price gouge you to death. This is why we now have Apple Mac Pro Wheels Kit for $1000 and Polishing Cloth for $30.

            • +1

@kranoath: Yeah I hear you, I personally just ignore those options. I've used Xiaomi phones for years also, but the Samsung's have had great deals too at around $600ish for a flagship.

I also would appreciate cheaper GPUs guys! I'd love a 4090.

              • +1

@Dvbargain: I just want a good working phone at reasonable prices like graphic cards. I'm just afraid they are training us to expect 2-3k gpus prices in the near future. What a sad day that will be.

            • +2

@kranoath: Wow! Wtf… I had to look that up. I thought it would be some gimmick wheels for your car, then when I saw what you get for $1000… Crazy.

              • @Shaun Prawn: It's like somehow we entered a warped reality :)

              • @Shaun Prawn: Aha yep mate you don't get much.

And labour for installing it is another $240 or so.

Still think GPUs VS the entertainment value isn't worth it haha

              • @Shaun Prawn: Holy sh*t the pro stand is $1699… makes this 3090ti look like a friggin BARGAIN

      • +2

In fairness if you can drop $2k on a GPU when for half that you can get one nearly as good, then you're probably not the type to be using ozbargain.

        • +1

I use ozbargain every day and have for a long time. I also bought a 3080Ti during COVID. I use it every day as a primary source of entertainment so 1.6k I paid has been worth it…. By far.

Yes lots of people cant afford it but Australians have it pretty good…. I'd say if you use it alot… It's not actually that unobtainium.

          • +1

@Dvbargain: You're addicted to ozbargain like the rest of us. Lol

            • +1

@mckayver: Do you know how many wireless mice I have dude LOL

              • +1

@Dvbargain: Ozbargain is entertainment. I was at aldi just then waiting in the check out line ozbargaining. Lol

                • +1

@mckayver: So it has its own inherent value. I like your self justifying hahaha.

          • @Dvbargain: I was about to say this. Isn't a RTX 3080Ti close in performance anyway?

            • @Davesday: Close. 3090Ti gets up on it a bit. 3090 very similar

              • +1

@Dvbargain: Thats right. 3090 for those who needed the extra RAM. And spending about $500 more for the 3090 Ti for a bit more performance doesn't seem to be a wise move.

                • +1

@Davesday: Yeah it was pointless for me

I wanted something to drive 240hz 1440p and or 4k 120hz. 3080ti was enough for this gen. We will see what comes next gen

    • +3

Yep. Currently we have fear of recession, oversupply, downturn is crypto, old tech, Ethereum switch, up-coming new GPUs, etc etc.

Why would you even touch these?

  • +2

Don't really see the logic in preordering an overstocked gpu

  • +3

Just keep in mind that when the 3 series launched, many people sold their GPUs only to find no stock. Then only to buy the 3 series GPUs at inflated prices or other older used cards for months. So, if you are in the camp that 3090 ti will be more than enough and the 4080 would cost the same or more for the first 6 months, then this is for you (ignore any RRP).

    • +1

I agree, just buy whatever card you like at the price you can for out.

Don't bother what others said, its your money not theirs.

      • +2

Agree. I truly won't ever understand the obsession around here with trying to control others spending. Some people just want to enjoy their hobby (which likely fills a significant portion of their free time). If you can afford it then go for it and have fun.

        • I don't want to control anybodies spending, but I do wish ozbargain deals were defined such that "deals" like this weren't posted. GPUs are constantly being posted and are rarely an actual deal.

Hi guys, i wanted a GPU and this was the cheapest model foo i found when searching staticice

          or my favorite

Hi guys, saw this "sale" and posted it. I didn't buy it and I recommend holding, but hey, maybe you want to buy it?

What's the point, who's even getting value from having shit like this posted on ozbargain?

          • +1

@ssfps: So where else should I get a 3090 Ti from today?

Something to hold me and my Vive Pro 2 over until the eventual, still no release date, still no msrrp 40xx are released? Nothing fancy, going in a high air flow case, not worried about thermals.

I can’t seem to find a better deal. All knowing ssfps, please show me where the real bargains are.

            • -1

@2024: Are you saying you can only purchase items that are listen on ozbargain?

Or are you saying because you happen to be in the market for a 3090ti, then you expect ozbargain to become a catalogue of 3090tis?
Have you heard of staticice, lycos, altavista, etc?

              • @ssfps: Nah I was asking you to tell me where the cheapest 3090 ti is, since you kicked up a stink about this post

This is considerably cheaper than it has been. A lot better than the 20 dollar discount (<5%) that you posted.

GPUs are constantly being posted and are rarely an actual deal.

Are you ok? Regrets over your own post? I don’t understand

If you have ignored all about 4000 series comments and still ready to buy 3090ti then please watch these videos before buying any 3090 Ti

  • I don't think anyone will buy this 2-year-old card as a pre-order for 2K

  • +3

Mwave blocked me from commenting on their Facebook 🤣 guess they don't want people to think before they waste money on bullshit priced cards 😒

    • +1

I'd do the same if some a**hole standing in front of my barber shop telling people not to have hair cut.

Its their money, none of your business what they want to do with it. So mind your own business as well.

      • +2

This is a good point actually. I'm sick of online ads, roadside ads, TV ads, product placement, market manipulation (collusion) and guerilla marketing.

To balance it out, we need more champs running anti-marketing. Good job @S1nn3r86

      • Are you really going to stick up for the people selling over priced cards? Why are you apart of this website ? If you're happy letting uninformed people waste their money that's your choice. I'd rather warn a few people before making a purchase they'd regret. Each to their own I guess. I'm not stopping anyone from buying anything. Just pointing out simple facts :)

        • -1

what you're doing is telling people what to do with their money, its intrusive and obnoxious.

mwave or any other retailer doesn't dictate people to do this and that, they just advertise the product with the price they willing to sell, people are free to buy or not to buy from them.

you shouldn't be preaching on social media, its just common sense.

I stand by mwave for banning you on their facebook page, its within their rights to do so.

  • +1

At this point in time, this card worth $1200 Max

  • +2

just bought 2 for both of my streaming pc, thanks for posting

  • +4

Well I paid $1750 for a 3070ti 6 months ago, so they wont get as ripped off as I did. (It was the Aurous with the screen on it, I paid extra for the gimmick -building a mini screened Aurous system, PSU, vid, cpu cooler.)

  • The Asus ROG 3090's @ $1999 sold out in bit over a day. Maybe they only had like 3 of them, but none the less people are still buying.

    • Was it a 3090 or 3090 TI?

      • Just 3090

  • +1
