Hi Guys.

Another great Mac OSX utility has dropped down in price. This has only 10 hours left so get in quick. If you don't know what Divvy does, follow the link.

** EDIT **
Duplicating the description from the purchase page to preventing any other 'I'm to lazy to click a link' whining.

The Problem:
Managing windows can be frustrating, requiring precision control of your mouse or trackpad for clicking, dragging, pushing and pulling your windows to the size and position you desire. Even with all this work, it’s very difficult to get windows exactly where you want them, so most of the time windows are left scattered all over the screen.

The Solution:
Divvy, a solution for both Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows, is an entirely new way of managing your windows. It allows you to quickly and efficiently "divvy up" your screen into exact portions. This lets you take maximum advantage of your screen real estate without any hassle at all. Window management has never been this easy.

With Divvy, it’s as simple as a single click and drag in the Divvy interface and your window will be resized and moved to a relative portion of the screen. If that seems like too much work, you can go ahead and create as many different shortcuts as you'd like that resize and move your windows.

Divvy is designed to be quick, simple and elegant, staying out of your way as much as possible while providing the most powerful window management available today.

Features:
• Resize your windows with the innovative Divvy grid
• Customizable grid size (from 1x1 up to 20x20)
• Works with multiple monitors
• Unlimited user-customizable keyboard shortcuts
• Access Divvy from anywhere using a configurable global hotkey

Wow thanks for the wonderful description.

Either I am missing something, or is that all of these users do not know how to resize the windows and position of different programs, and always have them open there?

Open whatever you want, lets say Finder, move it to where & how you want it without actually doing anything else, and then shut it. From then on, finder opens it that position and size.
    Same for all apps etc…..

    • Does it faster using keyboard shortcuts. I assume its useful for some people who may require constant resizing of various windows while they work.

    • One case that I found Divvy or similar applications useful is when you have an external display hooked up to a laptop. When unplugging the external display, all windows are moved to the main screen and are not moved back when plugging the display in again. Divvy will save you the trouble of lining up the windows the way you like if you're picky about these things.

OS X has a couple of annoying things to deal with:

      • only resize from the bottom right (what happens if you shifted your window past the right of the screen? Now you CAN'T resize)

      • can't get perfect consistent positioning and size for all your windows so you get overlap when alternating between windows.

      • everything done with guesswork and requires dexterous mousework.

      • As I recall dot point one (only resize from the bottom right) changed in Lion, and you can now resize most apps from any edge or corner.

        • Yep, I can resize windows from any corner in Lion.

    • Jeez man. Usually people show a bit of gratitude. Sorry for having to make you click a single link to find out what the app is about. I was running out the door to a meeting at the time. I thought some info is better than none. Sheeesh.

Before you buy this, you should try: https://github.com/jigish/slate#readme

  • Moom is the best for this. I've tried many many many. Not saying divy won't get the job done but if you see all the different options of resizing to quarters or thirds or random sizes etc. that you can do with moom it's well worth the $5. It won awards last year for how good it is. http://manytricks.com/moom/

    • Do you use an external monitor with Moom? Seems some people don't rate it - just interested to know why you rate so highly, and benefits over other solutions, like Divvy?

  • Drats, missed this!
