A new release phone from Infinix that offers some pretty good specs for the price. While the brand is pretty much unheard of in Australia it's big in more developing nations where phones are more expensive, so this competes with other budget brands like Realme and Redmi.

The main features of this phone is that it has a 6.7" AMOLED display, plenty of RAM, 256GB storage that's expandable, NFC, 4G with B28 support and the MediaTek Helio G99 CPU that's comparable to a mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU. One of the obvious downsides that you can expect is that there's likely no Widevine L1 DRM for Netflix HD.

Featuring Android 12 with Google Play (XOS 10.6), 6.7" 2400x1080 AMOLED Display, 8GB RAM (13GB w/ Android extended RAM), 256GB Storage, (microSD card support), MediaTek Helio G99 Octa-Core CPU, Mali-G57 MC2 GPU, NFC, 4G LTE, Dual SIM, 108MP triple rear camera, 16MP front camera, 5000mAh battery with USB-C 33W fast charging, Dual Speakers with DTS and 3.5mm audio jack.

  • So its a cheap phone?

    • Yes. Put good specs in a phone while keeping the price low to be more affordable. Much like how Xiaomi used to operate.

  • Hows this brand with updates

    • +1

I know that their previous phones with Android 11 received Android 12 OTA updates but I don't think they get any more major releases. I've seen people online report more smaller updates.

  • +6

I've been briefly following the progress of this brand given gsmarena does occasional reviews of their phones but from anecdotal evidence it doesn't seem worthwhile. Apart from the lack of local warranty there's little to no software support- they promise one OS update (which in itself is terrible) but there's many reports that previous Notes didn't receive even that. Throw in random hardware issues that pop up 12+ months down the track.

The specs are solid enough but not significantly better than other equivalent models in the Redmi/Realme range, and while there's still plenty of detractors for those brands at least they've established themselves as bringing some level of quality and following through on updates.

Infinix is a throwback to the wild-west of early-mid 10s Android to me- back when you'd be happy enough if you found a mostly-working custom ROM for your imported Doogee, LeEco or Meizu M2 Pro Max whatever.

Edit: and their OS has had many complaints too. Not sure if they've improved since but gsmarena even noted the ridiculous ads you get in the notifications panel

True but leeco and meizu were top specs for the money for sure, still have mine :)

    • +3

Te. When i read the OP post i concluded that this phone is nothing but cheap.

  • +2

I reckon the $399 Samsung a33 is a better deal. At least you got 2 years warranty and updates for sure.

    • +6

Yeah but does the A33 have MediaTek Helio G99 Octa-Core CPU, Mali-G57 MC2 GPU, NFC, 108MP triple rear camera, 16MP front camera, 5000mAh battery with USB-C 33W fast charging, Dual Speakers with DTS and 3.5mm audio jack?

      • -1

        No. Generally it has better.

      • @HandsomeMonkey I will try to clarify all the claims you have made, and show that (almost) every specification you mentioned is better in the Samsung A33.

It's not because I want to be argumentative, it's just that I bought the Samsung A32 two days ago, so I found this thread interesting (and a bit concerning that my A32 deal was not as good as I thought).

So, I had to check for myself, and I found that Samsung Galaxy A33 is better than the Infinix Note 12 Pro in (almost) every way.

        CHIPSET:

Samsung A33 has the Exynos 1280 which is better than the MediaTek Helio G99 in every way (except for one minor difference A33 has ISA Arm 8-A and the Infinix has ISA Arm 8.2-A).

The rest of the Samsung A33 chipset is better in every way.

As an example, the Samsung A33 Exynos 1280 has:

        • Faster memory
        • Twice as much cache
        • Twice as many memory channels
        • Twice as many GPU Execution Channels
        • Twice as many GPU Shader Channels
        • Higher GPU Base Clock
        • Higher GPU Boost Clock
        • Higher GPU FP32 Floating Point
        • Better Benchmar Scores on An Tu Tu
        • Better Score in benchmark GeekScore 5 Single Core
        • Better Score in benchmark in GeekBench 5 Multi Core
        • Better Lithography 5nm which, among other advantages, it means that (if all other things are equal) it uses less power, and it has lower resistance (therefore it generates less heat).

        GPU:

Samsung A33 has the faster Mali-G68 MC4 (compared to Infinix which has the Mali-G57 MC2).

        CPU:

The Samsung A30 has a faster Octa Core processor than Infinix:

        • 6x ARM Cortex-A55 @ 2.0 GHz
        • 2× ARM Cortex-A78 @ 2.4 GHz

        Compared to Infinix:

        • 6x ARM Cortex-A55 @ 2.0 GHz
        • 2× ARM Cortex-A76 @ 2.2 GHz

        Source:

        https://gadgetversus.com/processor/samsung-exynos-1280-vs-me…

        Both phones have:

        • NFC
        • USB-C
        • Dual speakers
        • 5,000 mAh fast charge batteries (although the Infinix has a faster 33 W charger compared to Samsung 25 W).

Samsung A33 does not have the 3.5 mm jack, while the Infinix phone has one.

Cameras are near to impossible to compare on paper, the higher pixel count in the Infinix has the same amount of comparative value as the number of Watts in a speaker (the optics/lenses are much more important than resolution, especially in the lower price range phones).

@ozone I think the Samsung A33 is a much better deal too.

      Fast charging 25 W

Note: the GSM Arena specs are often taken from the international version of phones, so Australian specifications may differ.

Mostly in the amount of internal memory (where I would expect some variation) but also in chipsets, CPU and GPU (but the Samsung A33 chipset, CPU and GPU in this post are correct, as far as I know).

      • +1

Note: since the Infinix phone is an import, it may be a good idea to check if it supports the network bands of your telephone provider in Australia.

B1/3/5/7/8/28/40 are used in Australia so this is fine. I won't share phones without proper 4G support.

        • Thanks mate, that's good to know.
