Can anyone comment on the fit? Trying to sell my galaxy buds pro because they are way to big and hurt my ears and fall out.

I'm worried about trying any more and wasting money

    • The xm4 have a foam rather than rubber earpiece, I've heard it's quite polarising and doesn't always sit entirely snugly

    • +1

I guess then you might not be suitable for in ear buds.

      • I should of clarified. Buds pro are the only ones I have had issues with.

      • -2

Rubbish. Eartips come in all shapes and sizes.

        • +11

I actually spent heaps more on memory foam tips etc. Tried everything. Rubbish yourself.

          • +2

@mitcheo: How much is 'heaps' mr audiophile? Have you tried narrower/bigger tips etc. before throwing your hands in the air and declaring all eartips rubbish? Comply make foam tips in all shapes, sizes and for many styles of earphones. I find it hard to believe that none at all would fit your ear, unless you have some sort of deformed goblin ear!

            • +1

@Skinnerr: Yeah there is so much variety with ear tips.

Every single time I've heard someone say this it turns out they've tried a few included ones Or some cheap Chinese foam ones.

There are brands that make so many different types of foam ear tips, unless you have something wrong with your ears it is literally impossible for something ideal for you to not exist.

I think the problems with galaxy buds are less the tips and more the earphone shape and size

              • +5

@SmoothCactus: The problem is not the tips. The problem is the physical size of the buds pro. Anyone that suggests just changing tips will fix them being to big and hurting is just wrong with these buds pro. I wasted a further $50 on aftermarket tips. The buds pro are too big for alot of people. So they made the buds 2 smaller and the new buds 2 pro smaller. Absolutely nothing to do with tips.

                • @mitcheo: Ah fair enough. I was more replying to the guy who said 'ear buds dont fit you' which again i think is silly. Look at these sony's or even the cheaper XM3 model down which I have. Paired with comply foam tips they are very comfy and sound incredible.

    • +4

I also found the buds pro hurt my ears. The left bud would put pressure on an uncomfortable spot no matter how I wore them. For me XM4s are a massive improvement, I can wear them all day at work with no discomfort at all. The foam tips do take the slightest bit more effort to insert. It's best to compress them with your fingers before inserting them a little deeper. They also wear out, but replacements are cheap.

      • +1

thanks for the advice, 2 other people i know have same problem with the buds pro. also have unopened buds2 but i dont trust samsung and they will be easier to sell unopened. might take the plunge..

        • +1

I get pain with cheap earphones whereas my WF-XM3s have been comfortable, no issues for 2 years now.

          • @Techie4066: It really does vary. XM3s were the worst fitting, bludging mess I’ve ever owned.

        • XM4’s are massive.

I have tonnes of TWS. Most comfortable are Airpods Pro and Earfun Free Pro 2’s.

    • +2

been using these since release, absolutely hate the foam eartips that it comes with. You're suppose to give the eartips a squeeze to compress them, then insert into your ears so they slowly expand inside to allow for noise isolation. However they expand too much and hurts my ear canals far too much, gets painful like 30mins in (obviously this is a YMMV moment). Bought a pair of replacement spinfit eartips off amazon for around $20 from memory, makes the XM4s much more usable and comfortable for me

      • How do you find the latency with a PC? I’ve recently tried the Jabra Elite 7 Pro and it’s unfortunately a very poor experience with the lag.

If anyone can comment it would be great to know.

        Cheers.

        • +3

I actually do use these with my home PC all the time, i also play games with them as im not much of a headphones person. I dont notice any BT delay, im not saying that theres not any. I just dont notice any from my experience, I even when playing 1st person shooter games.

edit: i do use Bluetooth 5.0 on my home PC, not sure if that makes a difference though

      • +1

+1 for spinfit eartips. I had the exact same issue with these, and those replacement tips make them much more comfortable. The ANC is so good that the absolute best seal possible isn't as important imo. Still not as comfortable as Airpods Pro imo, but significantly better sound and ANC.

    • I've had many pairs of Samsung and Sony headphones, and these fit my ears the best. The high quality form is way better than silicon for me, for several reasons - it gives a snug and super comfortable fit, AND it enhances the active noise cancelling as it helps fill the ear canal better.
I always had issues with my Samsung Galaxy Buds and Buds Pro falling out of my ears if I ran etc, but no such issues with the Sony XM4's!

The sound quality and ANC is great, and the kicker on top of it is hands-down the best battery life of any wireless earbuds I've ever used. Recommended!

    • Fit is not great.
As some other commenters said, I had to replace the ear tips with 3rd party silicon tips which helped. However, I actually lost my pair on a 13 hr flight when I fell asleep with them in my ears and they'd fallen on the ground (wasnt able to find them even after getting on all fours). They're heavy and i wouldn't reccomend running or jogging with them.

That being said they were perfect for my office use and 100% the best sounding earbud I've used. Currently using Google Pixel Buds Pro which are good but not up to Sony.

  • +5

ahhhh so tempted, the form factor is so much more appealing than the XM3's :(

    • +1

the xm3 fit better for me surprisingly…

    • I've recently just found out that if I wear the left on the right ear and vice versa, and position them 'pointing up' the xm3 gives me a great seal, and a, very secure fit.

I think i just look like a dork wearing them backwards, but it's significantly better I find!

    • Same, but I can't enjoy new tech until the old one dies :(((((

My XM3 are still rock solid.

  • +3

I'm a relatively happy owner of a pair of linkbuds. They're really designed for the quite specific purpose of feeling like your ears aren't blocked.

Sound isn't fantastic, connectivity can be an occasional issue, but for the sole reason listed above I'm extremely happy with my purchase.

  • +1

are these ones where the boxed is damaged or actual returns?

    • +2

IIRC you can't resell earbuds (legally)

      • +2

Gonna need proof for that. "Seconds" is not the same as "refurbished".

      • What? Why would you not be able to resell earbuds legally?

    • +2

I have a friend bought "seconds" from Sony eBay, they do look like used.

    • I bought the XM3's a while ago from the Sony 'seconds' store, listed as refurbs/damaged box. There was absolutely no damage to the packaging whatsoever and it was still sealed in plastic. I suspect that at least some of these are just 'repacks' where they've been returned unopened or undelivered etc.

  • Are these good for blocking out sound when sleeping?

    • +2

unless you have massive ear, this wont be comfy if you sleep sideways.

    • +2

I use my galaxy buds 2 for that, very comfortable to sleep with as i'm a side sleeper. Sound is great, ANR is really decent, the only disappointment is the 5 hour battery life when ANR is on. It means that I can't have the active noise cancellation last all night… they do give some sound isolation from the seal alone though.

I don't own the Sony buds, I own the WH-1000XM4 over ears and gotta say it's a love-hate relationship… Overall the experience is pretty good, but I'm not a fan of the Sony sound signature ) and it required a bit of EQ adjustment (found some good settings on a website). Even after tweaking my Audio Technica M50XBT still has the edge in sound. The Sony's arnt bad though, just expected them to sound better than my M50XBT's since they cost nearly twice as much. With the Sony's support for 2 devices, auto-power off, type c charging and great battery life I have found a lot to love in them.

    • I can attest to this.

I have a pretty noisy household and so I sleep with these in every day with just the noise cancelling turned on and nothing else, sometimes I use white noise like a rainy cabin soundtrack.

They are wonderful for this, I mostly just use use them as earplugs because the anc is so good.

Depending on how you sleep and how firm your pillow is, you may experience some discomfort because they protrude out a little bit, and so your mileage may vary in that regard. I'm a side sleeper and have a soft-medium pillow and it took a few days to get used to it when I slept on the side but I'm okay with them now.

However if you don't need active noise cancelling and just want some sleep earphones, I'd suggest looking for sleep earphones on Amazon. They're extremely small and some are made of only silicone so you can't feel anything when you're on your side, but unfortunately they are wired.

  • -1

Heard that the WF-1000XM4 is not much improvement over the WF-1000XM3 ?

    • They don't stick out a ridiculous amount now.
Compatibility with Windows, noise cancelling and mics for calls all supposedly improved. Water resistance and wireless charging added.

    • +2

Where? Every possible review I've seen has said the opposite. Xm4 is a huge improvement on the xm3's

    • sound wise, not much.
feature, form factor is huge leap forward.

    • +1

I've had both, XM4 is definitely a big improvement. If for no other reason than the form factor and fitment. I always found the XM3 to be a very awkward fit that took a lot of fettling to get into the right position and was easily dislodged.

Sound quality wise, it's been a while since I had the XM3 so it's hard for me to compare, but from what I can vaguely remember, the XM4 sounds better overall. It's a more 'fun' listen.

  • +1

Galaxy buds 2 pro have been announced aswell for people in the market

    • First gen were good, but poor eq's.
If they offer proper eq I'll likely go again as they were otherwise good.

    • -2

They can go ahead and jump with that shitty product

    • +1

Piss poor move by Samsung locking their hi-fi codec to Samsung phones only, SSC or whatever it is.

      • +3

WHAT! I did not know this.

        I hate this crap.

        • +2

Immediately turned me off it when I saw the news.

      • +2

They have AAC and are going to have LC3.
What more do you want them to do?

        • +1

Oh yeah nice nice. I have LHDC and LDAC on my Edifier Neobuds Pro that I use

          I don't like any ecosystem locking-in.

  • +1

Last time I ordered from these guys, after 11 days they said they didn't actually have the product in stock and wouldn't honor the sale or offer a similar product.

  • Anyone use these in a motorcycle? Is the noise cancelling any good or is 100k/h going to be too much for the buds to cancel out

    • +1

It'll work wonders. I use them during driving and it blocks 90% out.

      • +6

        Do you hear sirens okay?

      • Driving and riding are two very different things.
        Did you mean riding?

    • @Finger
I doubt these would be very comfy under a helmet. The foam pressure would hurt your ears a lot. You need something super low profile for use under a helmet.
The Shure low profile ear buds would be your best bet.
However, I've tried many, many earbuds and imo, I finally settled for the cardo single paired with foam ear plugs. Great audio and mic quality, no noise, no discomfort, long battery, works really well.

      • Agreed I use foam earplugs + Sena when riding. I can't imagine using earphones instead after making the switch years ago even if they have ANC.

      • Thanks I just use foam plugs. I tried a cardo but even the speakers recessed into the helmet they pushed in on my ears but my galaxy buds were fine although no anc so just adding to the wind noise it was too draining.

Maybe I'll just stick to riding without music.

        • Check out Schuberth and their integrated helmet/comm systems. Best prices at FC Moto. Been using them for a few years now. Not ANC though. Something like this https://www.fc-moto.de/en/Brands/S/Schuberth/C3

        • @Finger, ah, yes, I had the same problem. When I bought my next helmet, I made sure that it was Cardo/Sena ready, as in it had a space for the bits.

My old HJC didn't have the recessed spaces so they really badly hurt my ears. Looks like you'll need a new helmet with the recesses. 😁

If you can't/don't want to, then the Schuberth op mentioned below or the Shure that I tried. These are wired, my phone has a 3.5mm jack. If you don't mind the cables, that is.

All these issues were solved by getting a new helmet. So if yours is a bit old, tired, then consider getting one! I personally recommend the HJC F70. Can be had for about $450 or less.

          • @lordra: I actually have the F70 carbon. It's just I have a massive head and big ears, when pulling the helmet on my ears fold over with the cardo system installed and I have to wedge my finger in there to unfold them.

I really like the forcite helmets and that would be my next purchase but they only go up to XL at the moment.

    • +1

Yep, I've tried a few different options over the years (Airpods Pro, Bose QC20, Sena headsets) and these are amazing. Noise cancelling works significantly better than anything else - though not so well that you lose awareness of your surroundings - and sound quality is impressive while the wind is roaring at 110kph. The microphones are useless under a helmet, don't even bother trying a phone call or to talk to a voice assistant. They're a tight fit in my Shoei helmet (though comfortable for hours at a time) but I can imagine the fit could be a problem with some other helmet types/shapes. Battery life is best in class too.

  • -1

    Ozbargained!

  • +2

Would they be used and refurbished? Or simply damaged box etc?

    • +2

I have a friend bought "seconds" from Sony eBay previously, WF-1000XM3, and they do look like used.

  • so tempting… just the comfortability aspect makes it seem meh

  • I've had mine for a while now, and they're easily the best buds I have used, and I have had many.

  • These are such great earphones. I am always going to prefer wired iems as an audiophile but my experience with these in terms of connection and reliability has been outstanding.

Every time I take them out and put them in, they're connected and audio switches to it. The biggest thing that peeved me about wireless was connection inconsistencies.. I've tried so many wireless earphones where sometimes you have to reconnect or cycle Bluetooth on/off. They just work.. As reliably as plugging in your earphones imo.

The anc is so nice sometimes I just use them with no music playing just for the anc.

    • I love my over ear xm4s and been considering these as an upgrade to my dying galaxy bud v1s. But do hate that when I have 3+ devices paired, (laptop, pc, phone, sometimes TV or tablet) two of them quick connect and I have to play whackabluetooth trying to work out which device I have to find and disconnect to get my audio working. There's a Sony app on my phone that I have to open sometimes to set which two devices I want, that only works if my phone was one of them. Assume I'm going to have the same headache with the xm4 buds but maybe this is a me issue

  • +1

Has anyone had a pair of XM3s where the case (and therefore the earphones) didn't charge anymore?
Looking to see if it's worth buying a new case, or I'd there's a way to check what the issue is.

    • +1

Just sent mine away for repair after 5 months of use. Only the right side is charging.

      • I'm guessing that's under warranty right? Anyone had a similar experience with case not charging after the 2 years has passed?

        • yes under warranty

        • Not for Sony but with TWS in general, worth giving all the contact points a good clean with iso, remove any lint, gunk or earwax etc. Common issue that can happen over time and a decent clean can be enough to fix

          • @JBxrm: In this case it seems the case isn't charging. Anyone know of an easy way to troubleshoot? Or is it just a matter of buying a new case?

    • Same here, they don't charge and have been pretty dodgy since day 1 to be honest. Trying to get my money back but they are giving me jip about it

    • I had this issue, i fixed it by plugging it into my computer and charging for a bit. It started charging properly after I did that. Hope that helps :p

  • Thanks OP 😊

  • Any idea if Sony accept return without issue? I'd like to give the WFL900H Linkbuds a go, to see if they work in my workplace/workspace.

  • How’s the xm4 compared with AirPods Pro?

    • +1

I’ve used both for over 6 months. Airpods pro is more comfortable, especially if you wear them for sleep; but noise cnacelling and sound quality wise the xm4 is better. Personal opinion tho, better try them out in store.

      • …which stores let you try on in-ear buds without buying?

        • +1

I tried them in another country, I thought it’s also common here… My bad…

          • @ugulgif: All good, id just never heard of stores doing that here for in-ear buds due to hygiene concerns. Over-ear style it's very common

  • I have the WH-1000XM3 and feel really pain after 2-3 hours of use on the flight.
Does anyone have experience with both and is able to advise the comfort level of wearing the WF during long hours? thanks

  • Not great compared to the JB deal a few days ago. I contacted them on chat and was able to get it for the same price yesterday. $248. Applied $10 perks and came down to $238. Worth a shot if you want a brand new pair.

    • tried to chat online, below is the reply
Hey there, we don't deal with Perk pricing on this platform. You'll have to go instore or contact your nearest JB Hi-fi store

      • Did you try asking for 248 pricing first without any $10 perk?

  • They’re great, can find sound profiles online that make them sound way better than right out of the box. Can replace tips with dekoni bulletz if you don’t like the stock ones. Can’t rate them enough

  • -3

    These are very over-hyped

I just got a pair and honestly i find my jabra 65t is better than this. Sound quality wise and fitment wise
    - If you need to talk to someone you have to press the right ear and then enable ambient noise where as on the jabra you just press once and it stops the music and you can talk to someone. Seems overly complicated to do one thing
    - Bass isn't as good as the jabra and this comparing to a 65t model
    - Fitment feels like they will fall out, even though they haven't. Just a weird design overall.

No idea why these are so overhyped like they are the best. Will be returning to get the 85ts. Do not get if you're coming from jabras.
Seems like the people that overhype this are the same people who think airpods are the best. Again very sub par.

    • Because Airpods are the best tws on the market right now. The absolute best fit, tuning, and size for their targeted audience. The noise cancellation is only slightly behind the sonys, and they also carry the most natural, best ambient sound mode on any tws right now.

The sony xm4 have much better bass extension and less congestion in the mid-bass. This is usually a more pleasant, less boomy and congested tuning for most people.

Maybe you are just more used to the 65ts. Your brain takes time to get used to new earphone sounds. There's a reason why Sonys are more popular than jabras, its not just baseless hype.

      • returned the mxs and got the jabra elite 7 pros. They sound 1000% times better than the sonys, the fit is 100% better

100% overhyped crap. They are popular due to the name.
