  • Looks like a winner … at that price

I have the 65in, very happy with it.

    • Not many TV's support ethernet now days….

      • Every tv I sell has Ethernet and has done so for years.

  • What is the warranty on this TV? One or two years?

  • +7

a mate works at bigw said he see many many returns of this brand/tv
    beware

    • +4

Did they give a reason why? Defective? Poor performance? Picture quality? Scam ala buy to rent?

      • +1

        Probably user error.

    • +7

      Returning a 70inch tv is a pain

    • so what do they recommend?

    • +8

      Bought 65in EKO tv ~ feb 2021.

Turned off by itself mid watch ~ jun 2022, no response to anyting.

Emailed Ayonz, they said tough luck out of warranty, I mentioned ACL, they said tough luck out of warranty.

Contacted Big W returns, they gave following options:

      1. Take to local service desk

      2. Package yourself and they will arange pickup.

Chose option 1, took it in, no box and full refund was issued.

Its painfull buisness carting around 65 inch tv's, can't imagine 70 is much fun. But a lot of tv for the money obviously.

    • i love my eko. onboard computer is not great but works most of the time and allows installation of 3rd party apps

      • +3

Works most of the time isn’t a great selling point

        • to be clear, it works better than my Sony. the problem is either android or netflix and i'm guessing there might be a ram issue or something. the software is actually sony tv software. pretty common for apps to bug out. i work with ipads all day and i'm constantly closing apps and resetting ipads due to them glitching out. attach a fire stick and you'd be golden

    • I got a EKO 58" QLED, December 2020. Picture random stuff up every second line from 2/3 of the screen down (no picture settings have any effect).

It's a real shame because the LCD panel still looks great when it's working.

  • Even cheaper

Coz it costs more to run now.

    • -1

      Remember CRTs.

Funniest thing we went from like large CRTs to same size LCDs and energy use went down. Now people just scale up their screen to consumer more energy. When down is up, and up is down.

      • +6

How dare you skip plasma! My energy costs are nuts.

  • +4

Had the 75 inch version. Very unreliable. From software crashing while you are watching to simply refusing to switch on full stop at random times.

    • +2

Hooking up to Amazon stick or google chrome, should resolve the issues?

      • +3

No, that does not solve the issue when the TV refuses to start, you have to go and unplug it from the wall. Wait, plug it back in after a few minutes and turn it then on again.

        • +1

          welp not worth it then.

    • +1

Iv'e got the 65 and have had a couple of minor issues. Mainly just the os needing to be rebooted every so often. (as in full power off/on rather than just go to suspend)

I just use a firestick now and not worry about the built in google system.

    • +3

I recently reset mine back to factory and setup, scanned @ installed apps after updates & it’s rock solid again.

Also bought an 8gb USB in for more room & let it shift apps/data. Made a big difference!

But yeah, if I was unhappy, I’d go the Amazon stick 4K HD

      • I'd suggestresetting back to stock OS, disable the Wifi (so that it doesn't update), and plugging in a CCWGTV or similar.

You can almost entirely replace the native OS with a CCWGTV, since you can turn the TV on/off with the CCWGTV remote.

        • Is the ccwgty remote definitely compatible with the tv?
I have issued getting mine working with a TCL TV

          • @Torzz: I have a firestick but i presume its the same thing. It isn't so much that the remote works with the TV, its that the TV accepts CEC.

Same thing with my amp, If i use the tv control (or the firestick) it uses CEC to tell the amp to turn down.

        • Yep the update specifically to android tv where it changes from just the apps to apps and suggestions and promo ads slows it down. My suggestion is to not worry about letting it install updates install wolf launcher and force it to be the launcher instead. Much smoother experience

  • Anyone know of panel technology details?

    • Can download the manual or contact customer support here https://www.eko-entertainment.com.au/k700usg-70inch-4k-ultra…

A quick scan of the first page of manual and the tech specs and it’s not mention. Gonna be a LCD with low zone count FALD or edge lit. As for IPS/VA, whatever is cheapest would be my guess.

At this size/price though, this is more a bang for buck purchase above any considerations of the panel tech.

      • +2

I very doubt it has local dimming of any kind.

      • I posted this deal 18 months ago & never regretted it. It needs a sound bar that does ARC-HDMI so the TV remote does the sound bar too

I’d like a oled or qled but at $$$$$ this plays the same content, movies ect

        • For a lot of cheap tvs you need to factor in a soundbar.

I would recommend getting a tv and having a little extra in your budget for a cheap soundbar in case you end up needing once its in the house.

Though soundbars can get quite expensive, if you can wait till one is on sale thats good.

          • @Franc-T: Oh I agree but the next step up with built in audio soundbar is like the TCL C825 (has micro LED, QLED as well and is a nice TV with android) but is $1000 more…. for that you could have 2…

I see FATHERSDAY 75" $699 ALDI TV offer with WebOS

            • @srhardy: Yep, good sound costs a lot more, but soundbars can be quite cheap if you look for a deal.

  • +1

I had the 65" for almost two years now and it's been pretty good for the price, not perfect but I don't really have anything else to compare it with. I only used it with Nvidia Shield and for gaming though so I'm not too sure how the Eko software is. But the picture quality is decent for the price.

    • +3

      Agree.

I've had the 65" since December 2019 and haven't had any major issues.

I have, however, disabled the native OS by not connecting the TV to my Wifi. Instead, I run everything via a CCWGTV.

Prior to this, I had a few problems with apps freezing (when running off the TV OS).

  • +4

I've got the 75" with webOS, it's actually a decent family TV. I'd expect the Android OS version to be laggy, nothing a cheap fire stick or similar can't fix. Overall it's great bang for buck.

One day I'll save up and get a nicer TV with superior IQ and refresh but when 95% of what's shown on this TV is Bluey and Paw Patrol then i'm sticking to the entry levels :P

    • Bluey

      Great show!

    • All the app’s available for webOS? Like android??

      • They've got all the major streaming ones, but yeah I believe they're missing some. For basic family TV use it has what we need.

    • Bluey

      Lol this is me.

    • They had the 100hz version of the 75in for 899 the other day. Was tempted as an upgrade to the 65in 60 hz.

    • I currently have a 55” but I’m also in this position where only kids stuff (maybe 15min of news) gets watched …. Maybe 3-4 hrs a week.

Wanting the bigger size as our room is big.

      Decisions decisions :P

  • +4

OLED fanboi here but I can't not give 70" tv an upvote at that price, even if it complete POS

  • Delivery is must, showing $699 + $65 = $764

  • I am still waiting for the OLED deals, but should I get this in the meantime?

  • +1

I would like to know the next big fat cash back deal!?

  • +2

I had the 65 inch, it failed after 18 months, BIG W accepted the return and a full refund, I was told there, they get heaps of returns on this brand…. Heaps !

Whilst it was working it was great…

But would you wanna bother! ??

    • +1

Cause you got a free tv for 18 months?

    • Wow, was it 3yrs warranty ? or 1yr warranty?

      • I year

        • Oh wow, even after the warranty period, they still refunded ?? That's amazing

    • Exactly what happens to mine! Power was evident, but would not switch on, at least big w was ok with the fact it was out of the 12 month warranty, they essentially said, it’s not unexpected with the brand and they rack up the returns…

    • +2

Mate, have you not heard of a Samsung or LG TV, Fridge, Microwave dying just after warranty and HN, TGG, JB-Hi will NOT even consider refund.

If you have not heard major brands dying after warranty simply do a Google Search

Kudos to Big W for giving a refund after almost 2 year. Great Customer Service.

  • +2

How would this compare to a high end Panasonic plasma from 2008
Edit: just reading through the comments…..I'll keep my old plasma lol

    • +1

It’ll do HDR and probably get brighter. But the plasma would win in pretty much every other aspect of PQ.
The bigger size of this will add to the immersion factor though.

    • +1

Plasma is still king in PQ compared to most LCDs still. If you watch only 1080P non HDR stay with it.

      • -1

If you watch only 1080P non HDR stay with it.

I dunno, I reckon even cheap LCDs look better nowdays in the main.

        • Plasma benefits: Much better motion, a native contrast only rivaled by OLED and doesn't need a perfect source video to look good.

LCD benefits: Brighter, can't get burn-in and supports all the latest formats (HDR,HFR,VRR,4K+).

    • My 11-year-old TH-P58VT20A is still going strong.

    • I will keep my 55" Panasonic Plasma forever mwahahahahaha

      • And the Picture Is still WAY Better than these cheap TVs

  • Had the 65 for 6mo. Runs fine, but looks average at best. Average colours, poor viewing angles, subtle but noticeable ghosting.

If you're not watching sport, or if it's not your primary tv you'll probably tolerate it but watching fast moving sports is irritating.

  • Have had EKO brand 65" 4K QLED TV for about 18 months. "Smart TV" stuff is useless. Chucked a Chromecast with Google TV in it and it works great. I only use the Chromecast remote. It turns the Chromecast and the TV on and off. Goes straight to the Chromecast when it turns on. Happy with it for $700.

  • Bought one. 10% off Everyday Extra($69 off) helps with delivery. Will see how it goes

    • +1

Also, try the coupon code XAUG2022. That's my Everyday Extra code and it seems generic

  • This thing chews some juice according to energy ratings. That being said, you can probably turn the backlight down significantly and save yourself 50%+ on power bill.

Also, they have a new version with Dolby Vision. Which chews even more power. But guess it needs to for the Dolby Vision.

  • Another option is the 75" from JBHifi for $795:
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/blaupunkt-75-4k-ultra-hd-…
This is from the same distributor as EKO, although not sure if it is actually from the same factory.

    • -1

The Blaupunkt is pure garbage, bought one for $636 and returned.

      • What makes it garbage?

  • -3

Crap tv no better than any of the other Chinese crap TV's coming in probably imported by the same company. Normally company like Tempo.
People that say they are ok and good don't know the difference between a premium tv and cheap crap.
    Caveat emptor

    That's all

    Thank.

    • +1

People that say they are ok and good don't know the difference between a premium tv and cheap crap.

Premium TVs have a premium price tag.
Not everyone needs a premium TV. e.g. people who just want to watch tv shows now and then, TV for the rumpus, patio, second living room, etc.

      • -3

I suggest cutting out a big piece of cardboard and painting it black, if you have to fill the space.
But yeah it is cheap. Be great on vertical banding, contrast will be garbage, motion will make you dizzy.
        Enjoy.

        • Be great on vertical banding, contrast will be garbage, motion will make you dizzy.

Have you used this model or are you just guessing?

          • +1

@eug: I have the 65in and the picture quality is completely fine. I've never had any problems with vertical banding, contrast or motion making me dizzy. I have a switch to direct my series X to either the TV or my 144hz gaming monitor so it isnt like i dont have experience with other screens. The reviews for them when i bought were all positive about picture quality, negative about inbuilt speakers (who cares). Complaints i have seen since all seem to be either it broke and they got their money back or the OS gets slow and needs to be reset occasionally (i use a firestick 4k anyway)

Before i bought it the display was running Blu-ray side by side with a sony. Without knowing which was which i dont think i could have picked which was 3+ times the price. A massive step up from the previous non HDR tvs we had had.

Sure an OLED would be better, 100Hz would be better but for most content its great. I have no idea how much a 100+Hz OLED would have cost a couple of years ago. I suspect way more than i would be willing to pay.

    • You buy this for $700 or a premium brand for 3x the price.

If it goes wrong in the first year you get warranty.
If it goes wrong beyond that, buy another $700 tv which may have updated specs by the time the original fails and your still better off.

Anecdotally I have had plenty of tvs and apart from the refurbs I bought from Soniq (2/3 that were not refurbed even close to properly) I only ever had one flatscreen fail….a Expensive Samsung Plasma lol. With cheap tv's it is roll of the dice, but our 55" EKO tv is a gem.

      • -4

        Poor man pays twice.

      • Might roll the dice. Never had a TV die on me ever, nor know anyone else who has had a TV die!

My grannies old Rank Arena CRT never failed (30+ years old). Omni flatscreen CRT at 22 years still kicking. No name Vision 47 3D LED now at 12 years out the back, all good. 42" Panasonic about the same.

What normally fails? We talking doesn't turn on at all, or backlight dies or screen goes all weird?

I have had a remote die before, but I bought 10 IR leds for $1 off eBay and that fixed it.

  • Add me to the list of those who had an EKO tv and it failed. Sucked having to take a 75' back to the store for a refund. As it's such a pain to return a big TV I don't reckon it's worth the punt based on BIgW staff themselves saying how many they get back.

  • Just for another data point, I bought two 70" EKO TVs in Dec 2020. They're not heavily used, usually 8-10 hours a week. No issues so far.

  • +1

if it doesnt break (like mine), they're unbeatable for the price. yea, i wish i could afford an LG OLED, but theyre still too exxy

  • +1

I purchased a 65" EKO QLED in December 2020 for $699 and its working fine. On Average I have to power cycle one a month but I don't care as I got good use of it and the picture quality is reasonable. I was looking at paying 3 times the price of EKO to buy a Samsung at that time so I am completely satisfied.

  • I bought the EKO 75" 4K Ultra HD Android 10 TV back in Feb 2021 for $999 and haven't had any issues with it… for the price I've been stoked at how well it turned out. That one replaced a 60" FFALCON TV from JB Hi-fi which had the backlight fail on it just over 12 months after purchasing. I also bought my Mum a 55" EKO as well a couple of years ago and have had no issues with that one either. I guess like most Chinese generic-brand crap it's hit and miss depending on the model / batch / way the wind is blowing.

  • I purchased the 75" model almost two years ago. I've been quite happy with the picture quality and it's been a good companion to the PS5. However, I hadn't extensively used the integrated Android TV functionality (other than initially configuring it, logging into the NetFlix application, etc.). It wasn't until my girlfriend moved in that I realised how terrible the integration is (by proxy of her constantly complaining about it being unresponsive, etc.).

I don't know if the root cause is Android TV being bloated, the SoC not (or barely) meeting the minimum hardware requirements, or a combination of the two, but it's unusable. I've performed basic troubleshooting by power cycling, rebooting Android TV, clearing the application and system cache, etc. Whilst it would briefly work fine, eventually it'd become unresponsive again (which did make me wonder if it was thermal throttling). I'm planning on factory resetting Android TV as well, but I'm not optimistic it'll resolve the issues.

Anyway, overall I think it's been a bargain (since it's still mostly operational… for now), but I figured I'd share my experience to warn potential purchasers.

    • Ours would do that but just needed to be power cycled. A couple of times over 2-3 years i did a full reset (setup copies accounts from the phone anyway so its quick to do).

I did actually get retroarch working on the OS but it wasnt fast.

Just went to a firestick and everything works great now and i dont use the inbuilt OS for anything.

  • My MIL bought a EKO 65" and we had to take it back in a week.

Wouldnt turn on, I had a really good look at it and used my old phone to turn it on (has IR) But I realise that its the actual software/hardware thats the problem, JUNK.

  • For anyone else who has a slow android experience on this tv my suggestion is either

    1) if you have the version that has just the apps disable automatic updates and uninstall the update for the android tv home app. You'll just have the apps view not the suggestions junk and promotion ads.

    2) what i find much better is what I do for the fire tv stick and install wolf launcher and disable the android tv launcher.

Much scooter much more responsive overall.

  • Too many negative posts regarding the EKO. Will avoid.

75 inches at Aldi for $799. Next week. WebOS.

    https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys/special-buys-wed-24-…

    • Be funny if it's the same rebadged TV like blaupunkt etc

      • When i got my 65in eko the 65in bhaun was the exact same tv just rebadged.

        • Te remote is different bigw vs aldi. Tho aldi is usually cheaper for the same quality from what I have bought in the past

          • +1

@brocky2006: Stand looks different as well. Past ones have been the exact same model. Same supplier, same remote, same firmware updates.

Problem with ALDI is it's really hard to know what if you are getting something good or bad rebadged. Some of their bikes were polygon which were decent, some others are rubbish.

  • Delivery option not available for me in metro Vic. Probably won't fit in my car…

  • My 55 QLED is still going 20 months later…. Got the JBL link bar n sub off Oz bargain also. Xbox series X for media player… Couldn't be happier
