Google Nest Cam (Battery), Nest Doorbell (Battery), Nest Hub 2nd Gen $565 Delivered @ Optus

100

I got an email from Optus with some pretty good pricing on Nest Cam and Doorbell. You need to buy as a set to get the discount though. It seems like a decent price and I've been happy with my Doorbell and Cam at full price.

Normal price for this is $807.

Decent pricing if you want it all. About 30% off RRP.

If you want to pick up additional Nest Hubs though, note that you should be able to price-match the current Mobileciti price at Bunnings. (Price went up to $92 though, so should be ~$82.8 when matched)

  • How is this system? Been curious about smart doorbells.

    • It works pretty well though occasionally might miss something. The battery on the doorbell will last 2 months or so, a lot longer on the cams.

      • What do you mean miss something? As in the doorbell won't ring, or the video feed won't work?

        • +1

Nah it wouldn't miss a ring but like a car driving past or something like that. You need to tell it what events to trigger and it stays in low power mode until it triggers.

Personally i wouldn't buy anything from Google/Nest, but each to their own.

      • Is there a particular reason?

        • +2

Yeah $1,500 in Nest Protect smoke detectors and installation only for them to kill the "Works with Nest" and render the detectors unable to work with the other smart devices in my home which was the whole reason i bought the Nest Protects. The kicker is they done this just a month after i bought them, and wont refund.

I've just had too much killed by Google over the years, i should of known better.

@LowRange: Google does have a history of terminating product lines or changing products with no recourse for the customer.

@Felixrising: hoping with matter coming in, they will fix up all this compatibility issues. but agree, google seem to cut a lot of good product lines.
i however have 1 doorbell, 3 hubs, 3x protects, 2 outdoor cameras …so hoping they dont kill it!
i looked at alexa and eufy and didn't like the other options =(

Suits my needs. Could be a lot better.

The old Nest app is better for viewing cameras that the new home app - so once again, Google has taken existing functionality and made it worse.

Still works though, but there is no longer the timelapse scrubbing you had with the original nest cameras. There's also no web portal.

Other than that - image quality is fine for the battery cameras, and night vision is decent enough. Best aspect would be how sensitive it picks up motion in zones.

I'd recommend a Nest aware subscription to make full use of them, though.
