      Best energy source.
High carb low fat is the go ;).
One of these bars is a lot less than a bit breakfast at the cafe but no one worries about the calories in bacon eggs etc lol

      • -2

Can't tell if this is sarcastic

          • +6

@G-rig: Not quite. Dietary fat still follows the science of KJ in, KJ out.

            • -3

@Fobsessive: Both talking a bit generally but high fat diets are low in fibre. Not all calories are the same.

Everyone is carb phobic these days after being brain washed by the big food industries for years, and fat is worse for you.

Stuff being a grown man counting calories lol, just eat less fat and junk.

          • +1

            @G-rig: 250g isn't even much food anyway so it's a bit ridiculous.

The Atkins (aka paleo, keto, carnivore, caveman) crew aren't happy haha.
Most people like to be told good things about their bad habits.

Can't believe the carb phobia these days, when fat is the culprit..

You know what is a cheaper way to buy sugar? Buying sugar/sugar cubes

        • +1

High GI which isn’t suitable for endurance.

          • @Fish and Grits: Practically the same. White sugar 65. I find numbers for Clif bars ranging from 57 to 101

            • -2

@ApuN: 65 is not practically the same as 101

Imagine eating sugar cubes for 5 hours in an endurance event lol

              • +1

@Fish and Grits: Do you understand that you argued that high gi isn't suitable for endurance?

                • +1

                  @ApuN: Take the L.

Clif Bars are suitable for endurance sports, sugar cubes are not.

        • +4

Yes, plain sugar is cheaper but for an event like an ironman you would need to eat 750g of sugar cubes.

After the 3rd cube you would be sick of them and by the half way mark your gut would be turning.

Things like clif bars have a time and place and are a welcomed option to have.

    • Big if true.

An energy bar that’s mostly energy. Who’d a thunk it.

    • +1

~250 calories is only about 2 big bananas, hardly that much food.

I'm sure people eat much more and dirtier calories every day and don't scrutinise it as much. They are aimed at sports and energy food anyway, wouldn't just smash too many on the couch if you're not doing anything (although people do anyway of different snacks and junk food).

  • -7

Wow to the sugar. Just over 1000kJ (250 cal) per bar for the Choc Brownie ones. That’s basically a protein shake with a banana mixed in for me.
I’ll still try one to see what it is like though but do not plan to have it as part of regular food intake.

    • +13

They are meant to be high carb/sugar for use during endurance sports

        • -3

Literally nothing about the clif bars from the post in your link.

          • +3

@basmith: Seriously, do I have to explain that is the company's own website?

            • @ApuN: Wait, are you saying because the company is marketing a different product in that way, that same marketing material applies to their whole range of products, because it's on their website?

Seriously, do I have to explain again that your link is about completely different products?

  • Just bought a bunch, pretty tasty

    • Will have to grab a few too, choc chip good (and bit lower in fat). The Amazon link above doesn't seem very cheap, $25 for 12 and not as many flavours).

  • thank you OP!
lots of other sport bars 1/2 price this week too. Musashi, Quest and more.
    and vitamins as well.

  • These are the energy bars preferred by Tim Savage (runs the popular podcast Australian Hiker) when bushwalking. In episode 57 on 'Nutrition on the trail', Lisa Donaldson (a nutritionist and dietician from FEED Inc.) recommended them.

Eat one of these 1 hour before you hit the gym to ensure you never lose weight!!

    • +3

These are not a weight loss supplement, and were not designed and have never been marketed for that use. In fact, they are usually marketed for how calorie-dense they are for their size.

    • +2

I went from 98kg to 78kg with these as my primary fuel during endurance workouts

  • +2

Can say from experience these are fantastic for endurance exercise. Easy to eat and digest on the go, and nice flavours. Have used them for long bike rides (100km+) and bush hikes. Perfect use case for them. :-)

  • Haha this is my favourite bar when travelling.

Usually after I land I'm hungry, but the first thing I wanna do is get to the hotel and dump my bags before I go out. This bar keeps me from getting hangry 👍

  • are these still good after expiry got like a few expired 12AUG22 date
