    • Hi - there are a range of prices, depending on the size of the kit.

Accordingly, this is consistent with the pricing guidelines, which state:

      • "Price. May include discount or savings (e.g. “$2 off” or “half price”), if space allows."

If there's a better way to do it please let me know, but the downvote is probably uncalled for?

Guess this is why so many posts start "Please be gentle"! haha

  • Looks interesting!

So is it right that these are placed around the perimeter of the house? Any reason these can't be installed in the roof / outer walls / under the house?

I have a weatherboard house from the 30s so would be interested in maximum protection.

      Hi Hippo

The boxes have been designed so they can be installed pretty much anywhere - (on ground, in ground, attached to walls, tree stumps, etc.) - so yes, absolutely they are suitable for anywhere in or around your house you're concerned about.

As a 'barrier' we recommend placing them around the perimeter, to entice termites into the traps, rather than into your house. However, if you think you might have activity, then you would want to treat that location first (e.g. in the roof, under house, on a wall, etc). and once you knock the colony out, you would typically revert to an external barrier.

Hope that helps - off to bed now but I'll be around in the morning to respond to any further questions.

      Thanks everyone!

  • Why get this instead of stuff like Termitcide Rods? So you don’t have to check all the time?

    • Thanks for the question.

      Two main reasons:

      • that style of system is in-ground only, so you can't put the stations a lot of places you might need them.
      • it is very costly to continually have to replace the rods (for as long as you have the system in place) - at about $50/rod it adds up fast. Our system is designed so you only put the killer treatment where there is termite activity; the passive monitoring uses baits, which saves a huge amount of money over time but is no less effective.

Finally, I just want to reiterate that our baits and treatments are 100% safe - non-toxic and non-poisonous. A quick visual check every month or so is all you need - you don't even need to touch anything.

      Cheers

I always wondered that if you put these types of bait stations around your house it's actually attracting the termites closer to the wood that's in your house, instead of them going after dead stuff farther away in your garden.

    • This is something I am definitely keen to understand. If these bait stations are attracting termites then we are actually creating more of a problem as if they skip it then they are onto the house.

    • Hi alidli - really appreciate you asking this question.

There are a couple of things to bear in mind here:

      • Absolutely, prevention is better than cure - and we strongly advocate for people to get rid of any wood piles, stumps, etc that might attract termites to their property in the first place.
      • If you already have termites on your property, then there is an urgent need to get a barrier in place - as well as to treat those termites where they are (our system handles both).
      • The attractants that we use are not going to bring termites in from all around; they are specially cut wood and pure cellulose tablets. So adequate to draw in Termites from a few metres away, but not tens of metres.

In short, if a termite finds its way into one of our traps on a house perimeter, it probably would have otherwise gone in.

Let me know if you have any further questions?

      Cheers

@rdhupar - hopefully this answers your question as well? Cheers

  • Should I buy this if I have a double brick house?

    • Termites have a way of getting into your house substructure through cracks in bricks, concrete and some species even burrow under the ground - so we definitely recommend getting a preventative system in place.

Thanks for your question and hope this helps.

    • My inspector said if there's wood anywhere in your house (architraves, skirting, etc) you're still at risk, and that more than once he has lifted carpets and found the carpet-grippers have been infested/ eaten.
But he did also say that even if they get in somewhere it can take a long time for them to do a serious amount of damage.

  • There seems to be much cheaper options here

    https://pestcontroldirect.com.au/shop/product-category/termi…

  • I have a double brick house but suspect termite activity in and around a bathroom which is lined with asbestos sheeting, based on flying ant activity around it the last few years. Had a few pest inspections but nothing conclusive.

There is sub floor access, and concrete paths and cemented sandstone paving (crazy paving style) all around the house, so haven't been keen to dig things up around it to explore.

What options are there to determine activity and treat it with your or other products?

How deep do you have to dig to check if termites are in the area? Is it possible to find them just by digging in the ground or do you need to see their presence above ground?

    • Your best with a bait trap, as they say you should never disturb the nest, which you will do by digging around, as they will just do a runner and set up camp somewhere else, but still come back for the food source in your house.

do you need to see their presence above ground.

These traps and others, can be put above ground and the termites will if no wood is available, make a mud tunnel to cross any obstacles to get to the bait, which you will see.

      • Yeah this is spot on - you might want to consider putting traps where you can access (e.g. under the floor) and check on it every month or so. The bait is delicious so they will eventually find it, at which point you can add the killer bait into the equation.

        Cheers
