  • What time are these going for sale at those prices?

  • +1

Is afterpay required as a payment method?

    • +1

Yes. Pay with discount GC and leave a bit for Afterpay.

  • +7

Just had my 5 months old WF-1000XM3 left earbud stop charging and Sony refuses to fix saying its corroded inside so its my fault.
And they want 210 dollars to repair. Thats 70 dollars more than I payed. Not happy Jan. Bing Lee also doesnt care either.
I've only ever used them out walking and theyve never been submerged. Dont have ear sweat folks it gets in.

    • +4

I had to have my WH-1000XM4B's sent for repair when I got them two years ago as the Bluetooth would just disconnect randomly. I contacted Sony about it and they arranged for it to be sent off for a repair and they came back saying that nothing was wrong with it. I received the headphones back and the issue persisted, so contacted them again and sent the device back for repair again. They said that they still didn't find a fault and sent them back to me, but they still kept disconnecting. After the third time that I sent it back they replaced the Bluetooth receiver and haven't had an issue since.

Did eventually get repaired but was a pain in the ass. Great headphones though

    • +7

Unfortunately this seems to be a common issue from what I read when looking for some gym earbuds. Basically if you have even slightly sweaty ears then WF-1000XM3 will not last.

I'd try pursue it under the Australian consumer guarantee. The "expected life" of circa $150 earbuds is not 5 months.

    • +2

Unlucky, I've had mine for 3 years and have done everything from run , gym , travelled in these and still going strong. Just been replacing the foam tips 2-3 times a year

    • +1

+1 mine also bought seconds WF-1000XM3, battery life for me was horrible from get go and the right one was dropping out every 15-20 minutes, mine were sent back to repair centre and they came back full with finger prints all over them claiming there is nothing wrong with them. Sony warranty has to be one of the worst one on my list, they barely lasted 8-10 months.

I just gave up in the end but in future I will never ever buy any Sony product knowing how their warranty claims work.

I recently bought some cheap Edifier TWS1 pro from ebay and they have been very solid and sound very good too, been using them at gym and stuff so far very happy with them.

    • I had my galaxy buds pro in the washing machine and dried under the sun and kept in the closet 3days before I realised it was in the pocket of my hiking pant.
I disassembled the charging case and dried inside. Buds itself weren't affected at all except they were low battery. The charging case working fine except it doesn't indicate full charge, with it's green led. This has happened 7months ago and it's going storng in my daily life to date.

  • Any reason to get the XM5s seems like better mics but can not fold (which is very questionable)?

  • +3

Warning: I bought a “seconds” soundbar three years ago and I have spent 2.5 years trying to get it fixed with Sony. I’ve never dealt with a worst customer service anywhere.

    • Sony products must break down a lot.

      • You're probably right, but for what it's worth I have a Sony tv, soundbar and headphones that have all been going strong since I got them. YMMV but just an anecdote from a happy customer.
Only complaint about the xm4s is needing to open the phone app all the time to change which devices I have multipair on for. It's max 2 at a time which is fine since I don't ever need 3 devices connected at once, but annoying to figure out which two connected if I'm sitting next to my phone, PC, TV and laptop all with BT turned on.

  • +1

    update the header seconds

    • +1

Cheers for letting me know mate. Done. Saw all these title reports but did not have a clue what about, too early in the morning 😉

      • lol no probs

  • +6

put "seconds" in the title. all options are "seconds"

i would stay away from seconds. these were broken ones they fixed and reselling, so they are inherently bad to begin with and will get worse over time.

better to spend a little more for new and save the headaches.

    • +4

Thanks, done. There are people happy to buy used ones from EBay or gumtree to save money. These Sony seconds are cheaper and come with factory warranty. This post is for them.

    • +3

True, I got one seconds WH1000XM3 from Sony ebay from previous deal and it's terrible, lots of hassles to get it repaired, stay away from it if you value your time.

      • +3

I think it’s an issue with Sony QC as a whole, being a mass volume producer, it’s almost pot luck whether buying new or seconds. I know a person who bought a brand new XM4, having high pitch sound in one bud immediately, currently having a lot of hassles getting it repaired under warranty. Sony Sydney “authorised repairer” wanted to charge him $245 to replace a single bud even though the bud was assessed faulty and was within warranty period!
Having said that, I bought Sony seconds camera gear several times and had no issue, they looked and worked like brand new except the scruffy looking boxes.

    • +3

Can't they also be ones that people have returned for whatever reason and there is nothing wrong with them but they can't repackage them as brand new?

  • +1

I don't have after pay and I don't want it

    • +2

Cool. Keep us in the loop.

  • Why so cheap….?

    • +3

You have to clean the ear wax

    • +8

Hence the XM5’s are not in the title mate, check the guideline. The mods can confirm that. I add them in the description for public interest. Common practice.

    • +1

WF-1000XM4's have 24 in stock at time of posting

    • +2

      Goodbye neg

  • +1

As comfy as the XM4s are, I returned mine because it'd go out of sync when watching movies. Was very disappointed. If you're only getting it for music I guess it's ok.

    • +4

Personally found that this really depended on the device/bluetooth chip it was being connected to. Connecting to my tv/shield with an older bluetooth chip and had frequent sync and connection issues, especially if I got up and moved 1 room away. Anything with a newer module like my phone or macbook had flawless connection, even if I walked several rooms away. The only other time I've had connectivity issues was with multi-device connections which is janky af on these headphones.

      • I connect it to my LG OLED to watch movies/YouTube. Audio starts good, then as time goes on it slowly goes out of sync then I'm just watching a foreign dubbed movie with the late lip sync.

Returned it and got the Beats instead and no issues since. Perfect.

I still prefer XM4's comfiness though.

  • +5

XM3 - love them. XM4 - bought them for the multiple device connect but hate them.

E.g. gardening, listening to something on your phone in your pocket. You've made the mistake of leaving an MSM site open on some PC inside and an autoplay ad starts at full volume. XM4s swap over to it. Pause/stop on headphones ignored. So gloves off, shoes off, two floors of steps…

    • Haha I feel this pain. I'll be in a work call on them and wife will turn on tv in next room, suddenly audio switches to that mid speaking if I turned off tv forgetting to disconnect hphones first.

  • I love my XM3s, but if they die due to my disgustingly sweaty ears, as suggested above, what are some decent competitor models from other brands?

    • How do you find the fit of the XM3s?

See this post of mine RE Jabra 85ts and my experience with XM3 vs 65t:
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12555632/redir

XM3s sound much nicer but the Jabras fit better (I really don't like the fit of the XM3). All things considered I'd go the Jabras (advice is based on headphone use for music when commuting and running as well as for calls

      • Sorry for delay. Only just saw this.

I find them to be reall comfy.. I have big ears and usually I get pain (weird to say but it does end up painful) when anything is touching them for a long period of time. With the XM3s though, I wear them sometimes all day for work and really never have fatigue. Sweat though.. oh yeahhhh.

I'll check out those Jabras, thank you :)

        • Noting now that I am probably speaking to the overears versus the in-ear
  • Good deal!

  • What's the sound quality difference between XM3, XM4 and XM5?

  • Damn, just bought last week when it was down to $214. Oh well.

    • It’s a roll of the dice. They could go out stock if you wait.

  • +2

Got a seconds XM4 a few months back, sound was definitely lacking depth unlike a brand new retail set I purchased at the same time…
Tried to return it, Sony did a no-contact from day 1. Had to dispute it with credit card provider.

  • +1

Ozbargainers will be Ozbargainers, but I'd suggest reading some of the feedback Sony Australia's Ebay store has recieved - I for one would rather pay an extra $100 just to ensure I don't recieve a broken set of headphones…

"Purchased over a month ago and returned to Sony (at my expense) due to the unit being faulty. Still awaiting a refund. I have purchased from the Sony store previously, however, this has been one of the most time-consuming and frustrating experiences I have ever had :(
    Sony WF1000XM4B (Seconds^) WF-1000XM4 Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones (#284484614441)"

"Beware of Sony Seconds. Items are faulty and clearly not checked at all before being sent. Had to send the item back and contact ebay to issue a refund as Sony stopped responding after the item had been sent back.

Bought these for work and regret it, the microphone sucks and I always have issues with bluetooth getting disconnected. The multidevice function doesn't work very well for me either.

  • Code is not ready yet?

  • +1

Had a pair of these, the internal mics for Noise cancelling were malfunctioning and loudly screeched whenever the device was turned on. ANC off on the Mobile App would NOT fix this, and it was only useable powered off while connected to an audio cable.
I tried returning it, had to deal with Sony warranty service that just refused to fix stuff. Went to refund via merchant

  • +2

Two other pains with the XM4s

    1. Because they autoswap like a mofo, they don't auto power off like the XM3 when not used. XM3 always impresses me with its battery life, XM4 half the time I use them its "10% battery left" or "Low battery power - Powering off".

    2. Touch controls too sensitive. Put the around your neck temporarily to give someone attention and your cheeks/collarbone will cause play/pause/play/pause/.. Even wearing them normally I accidentally trigger them when tilting my head - like Sony engineers don't have any delts.

One positive thing though depending on your viewpoint - they're tough. I've launched them a few times so they never annoy me again, but they keep on going.

    • They auto play/pause when you put them on/take them off. I've never had an issue with the actual touch controls being set off. I've also never had a problem with them not going into power saving mode. Mine are connected to my phone and my laptop and will stop playing when I take them off and put them on my desk, and they'll switch off about 10 minutes later.

      • Likely device dependent and a simpler setup if you're having success.

        • Could be, but I've used them across lots of different devices now, one (maybe two?) phones, old work dell laptop, new work macbook pro, personal windows desktop, maybe others.

          • @macrocephalic: I'll have to look if there's a touch sensitivity setting. Number of times I accidentally stop and start them is frustrating. But doesn't happen with the WM3.

And when I put them around my neck when temporarily talking to someone, maybe that auto on/off sensor is getting confused rather than the touch controls being touched. Or maybe sensor faulty even when on head. I'll turn that off.

    • Maybe you need to launch it higher?0

      • Nah, because I'd lose my man card if I didn't attempt to catch something that could be caught.

XM4s showing as $237.15, anyone else?

    • yeah me too?

      • Ahh heck, that was for WFs, not WHs. My bad

        • Easy mistake to make, seeing as the model numbers are nearly the same and the picture shown is the WH.

          • @macrocephalic: I still bought. Fingers crossed for a non-dodgy pair

            • +1

@JobbaWobba: I bought mine from the seconds store at least a year ago and have had zero problems. Lots of "seconds" are just damaged packaging or box opened. People don't come online to rant about good experiences though.

          • +1

@macrocephalic: Yeah the model numbers can confuse people at first glance. Title is correct. I purposely put a dash in the model name WF-1000XM4 to make it clearer but I guess not obvious enough LOL.
URL (search link) is now updated. Photo must have grabbed the first one it saw in the search. The original search link included the WH-1000XM5's as well, which are now sold out.

  • That was quick. Black Xm5 all gone

    • The other link has 2 left. Edit: gone seconds after I commented LOL. All gone within 5:26 min. Well that was bit of click frenzy fun ;-)

    says $237?

  • Can you still do the partial gift card/after pay trick?

    • Yes.

      • What's the split then you should be going for? Whole amount on vouchers except $1 for afterpay?

  • I use XM3 for work at a dental practice to erase the drilling, suction and scaler sounds. Best investment ever.
Have no problems with it. Maybe it slips out despite changing the tips
    Keen to upgrade

    • Have you thought about buying properly fitted ear plugs? The NC still pumps sound into your ears…

  • WFL900H $169.15

If you're hunting in the midrange, the Sennheiser BT450SE - the direct descendant of the BT450HD - is $152.99 delivered with AFPAYDAY.

    • +1

      Cheaper on amazon.

  • Bought WF XM4 seconds from the last deal over the weekend for $214
They arrived yesterday, lots quicker than I was expecting based on other comments.
Box had definitely been opened, packaging was ripped, but inside I couldn't see any signs of use, everything looked untouched
Happy with them so far, sound quality and noise cancelling are good. I'd seen some comments saying there was hissing/background noise when paired with a switch but I'm not getting any of that, it sounds fine to me

    • +1

Go the same deal, looked unopened but the right side earbud has really annoying high-pitched continuous squeal. Hopefully the return process will be ok

      • Someone I know had the same issue with a brand new one too. A quick Google showed a few people complained the same. Must be a common design/QC issue…

  • The WH-1000XM4 are also part of the deal: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/284926069840, it doesn't show in the search page, but I just bought one using the Afterpay code coupled with the Swap 8% promotion.

  • How long it may take to get reply from sony ebay AFTER purchase? :(

    • +1

I bought my XM4 seconds from eBay on Fri, Aug 12, 1:41 PM and the Sony email came at
      Mon, Aug 15, 2:41 PM

      I received them on Tuesday.

  • +1

I got my WFXM4's the other day (seconds like this deal). They have worked flawlessly and look brand new. They are a lot more comfortable than the WFXM3's and the case is much smaller.

  • NGL Afterpay must be clutching at straws given their future earnings outlook.
I can't see them making money.

  • List price dropped $19 on the WFL900H Linkbuds, now $153 with the promo code.

  • Good deal. Wh1000xm3 best headphones I ever had. I got a pair of xm4s with this deal but I regret not getting the xm5s for $370. Hopefully they will restock before sale ends.

  • Bought the XM4s. Fast delivery to regional area. Right earphone has a mic/acoustic fault where it presents a reverb tin can effect while the mics are active in NC or ambient mode. Response from Sony eBay has been fast so far but was referred to troubleshooting forums. Further explained the defect, so hopefully get some support soon. Otherwise very happy with the product.

  • Weirdly I still haven't received the earbuds. DHL is not showing any traction after loading into depot after 23rd Aug. Anyone in similar situation?

  • the noise cancelling function don't work at all.

updating the firmware (which itself was a long ass process), turning the noise cancelling did not work at all.
