Breville The Barista Pro (Multiple Colours) $764.15 + Delivery ($0 C&C) @ The Good Guys

HOME

I saw the post for Breville The Oracle Coffee Machine back on the same sale as like 2 months ago with a different 15% off Good Guys code, so thought this is worth posting too.

I bought the Breville Barista Pro Stainless Steel about a month ago now from JB for a negotiated price (from $899 to $810) & used JB perks voucher bringing it down to $800. So far have used it every morning since and loving it.

Barista Pro - Stainless Steel $764.15
Barista Pro - Smoked Hickory $764.15
Barista Pro - Black Truffle $764.15

Also seems like you can use the code for the Barista Express but only the Stainless Steel version seems to accept the code for me? Still a capable machine as far as I've read…
Barista Express - Stainless Steel $594.15

Hopefully info is correct as kinda rushed through post while at work…

Note: apply coupon code HOME at checkout

Also make sure to redeem the Breville Father's Day Coffee BONUS by September 12th.
I recieved it within about 10 days of submitting claim (in SA).
The 2 x double wall glasses we recieved with the Pro gift pack are Bodum branded… much better quality and durability than Baccarat! Super stoked with them.

Original GG 15% OFF Range Coupon Deal

Edit: May be valid to use with Cashrewards increased cash back offer this afternoon 19/08/22. Thanks @geek001

It’s also the same price with the afterpay promo from Bing Lee on eBay. If you have ebayplus, free delivery

  • +4

Good price for the Barista Pro! I'd go for it if I hadn't pulled the trigger in the Exress deal a couple of months back. I have to say that while I do wish the Express would be quicker when foaming milk (which I believe the Pro would be an improvement on) I'm otherwise very happy with it.

    • This one has OPV as well, so big improvements in addition to better milk frothing.

      • +2

        What's opv?

        • +5

Over pressure valve or Oral poliovirus vaccines. Either would be a bonus in my book!

  • +2

Good buy, so many coffee machines & grinders posted lately.. FYI, if you click check price now, reg price is $879, so with code will be $747

    • Don't seem to be able to stack them - it is either "price beat" or "HOME" - has anyone been able to apply both?

  • +1

    Excellent deal.

  • +7

If you can wait till later today, I think this stacks with this as well: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/719731

    • Bought one yesterday, however missed out on the increased cash back!

    • Thanks, added to deal

    • Many thanks!

    • Bought. Paid using shopback TGG giftcards, another 3% off. :)

      • Can we use multiple GC? Thanks

        • I think I read somewhere TGG online takes 2 giftcards max. I used one 750 giftcard bought using the shopback app.

I have used multiple giftcard in store though, but I guess if you do that, you won't get the cashback.

          • @geek001: Thank you. I can't see the option to enter gc. Only cc, afterpay, zip etc.

            • @Bargain-er: It is right above the promo code box. The heading is "Pay using a Gift Card or Store Credit". You may need to expand the heading to see where you enter the gc number and pin.

  • I bought it for this price last year, great value, but that father's day bonus pack is awesome!!

  • Great machine.
I got the display model from david jones 2 months about for about $400.
Was missing the portafilter but breville organised a new one free of charge

  • There's a few (recent) negative reviews in regards to the grinder, steam wand the unit in general on productreviews.com.au… These seem to relate to machines that reach 6-12 months of age. Sadly, almost all of the reviews talk to the lack of customer care from Breville.

    • +3

I've had mine for 2 years and it's been flawless. I do however clean the machine often and descale +flush it when prompted (but using off brand products).

I also use the Airjo Sumatra coffee beans with it (ozbargain fav) and it makes the best coffee I've had

      • I don't have any evidence to support this but I can almost guarantee most people don't clean their machines properly, or at all, hence the early failures.

You would be surprised how many people don't even know their dishwasher has a filter that needs cleaning (and instead buy dishwasher cleaning liquid!).

Granted it's not easy to remove the 'shower' part of the machine using an Allan key, but it is worth doing as it's always full of gunk after a couple of months, even when using the cinoclean tablets.

        • What cleaning routine do you recommend? Citric acid etc? Thanks.

          • @Naigrabzo: The main thing I do is follow the instructions, but additional to that I would also remove the shower screen and the small plastic insert in the portafilter every month or two. There is always coffee sludge hidden under the shower screen (even after doing a wash twice with cleaning tablets). You have to be careful removing it so you don't damage the seal - I'm sure there are some YouTube videos online showing you how

    • +1

I have seen more and more younger Brevilles failing. Even before this though, the average lifetime we'd see before major failures was 3-5 years.

Their customer care used to be pretty good, but that also has dropped off and they are making it more difficult/expensive for consumers to get their machines repaired.

      • Yeh my 870 died after 5 years.. was told it was uneconomical to repair.. So just a heads up, when buying thats about the lifespan you can expect before having to basically buy a new machine.

        • Ouch. I’m on my 5th year now, it’s never been serviced or had anything replaced/modified.

Still works as new. Did yours show signs of failure leading up to it?

  • +1

Should I buy this or wait until the Breville dual boiler BES920 comes on sale again?

    • +2

Sales of the BES920 are going to be rare now because it seems Breville have decided to stop selling the BES920 individually and instead choosing it to bundle it together with the Smart Grinder Pro packaged as the Dynamic Duo

      • I've heard this for years but individual machines still pop up all the time. Is there any official communication about this change?

    • Waiting for a 920 as well. If I didn't have a machine I'd be all over these but I got a cheap temp duo off Gumtree for like $100 a few years ago and it does the job until something better comes up.

  • I'd buy this if my Oracle wasn't still going so strong after all these years

    • Why? Isn't the Oracle top of the line?

      • Just a mostly auto solution. If it broke I could use something cheaper and more manual.

        • It's a dual boiler mate, much better than the express/pro

          • @TEER3X: Yeah I don't need to steam milk as much as I needed to previously!

            • @serpserpserp: The dual boiler makes a much better shot, irrespective of it's ability to steam milk at the same time. There are plenty of other differences, for one, db uses a 58mm portafilter and basket vs 54mm on budget Breville machines.

  • Hi Guys, Before I pull the trigger …. how much does it cost to service these machine? and how frequent for 1 cup a day user? Cheers

    • +3

I don't think you need to professionally service the machine unless it broke down.
Monthly cleaning tablet and quarterly water filter + descale maintenance is all it needs.

We're using it for 1-2 cups a day too, and it doesn't take much maintenance at all.

Edit: you can get those cleaning tablets and descale solutions on Amazon for much cheaper than breville's one

      • Do you mind to recommend the descale and cleaning solutions and tablets by having a link to amazon? TIA.

        • For the group head, you can use something like this.

For descaling, you can also use Citric Acid as an alternative.

          • @JaxSantiago: Do you have to remove the group head from the machine to clean it with the cafetto powder?

            • @Brakus: How long you had your machine for? Did you read the manual?
Edit: Just read you buying it now, so you doing advance research.

        • +1

For monthly cleaning I use the tablet form instead of powder just for convenience here

For quarterly descaling I use this here

          • @OzBestDeal: How do you use the tablet?

            • +2

@Brakus: The machine come with cleaning disc (black rubber seal) that you put on your portafilter.
You put the tablet there and attach it to the machine as usual, then simply run the cleaning program.

When my machine was delivered it came with cleaning disc with a hole on it.
Apparently that's not a correct one and I have to call Breville support to send me another one without a hole.

              • +1

@OzBestDeal: Cool. Thanks for the info. Ordered the machine today. Hopefully, it’ll be good.

              • @OzBestDeal: I got a bes880 earlier this year and the cleaning disc also has a hole in it.
Do you know if it's meant to have a hole or not?

                • +1

@chew_chew: When I clean my machine with the one with the hole, I don't feel it backflush properly. Most water simply go through portafilter instead of backflush. Then I call breville and they're sending me another one without a hole without much questions.

I think its a manufacturing defect and they knew about it.

                  • +1

@OzBestDeal: I agree, the cleaning disc that came with my Bambino Plus has a hole and the backflush is not effective.

              • @OzBestDeal: Thanks, mate. Big help. I got my machine and found a hold in the cleaning rubber. Calling breville support to get one without.

I also see tons of cleaning products in a pamphlet that came with the machine and wondering:
                1. if you use the Eco 2 in 1 Cleaner - any alternatives?
                2. Alternatives to Eco Milk Frother Cleaner
                3. How often do you clean the burr grinder

                • +1

@Brakus: I don't use the eco-friendly products. But Cafetto on Amazon also sell the eco-friendly one if you're interested.
I don't do milk frother cleaning. Just make sure you wipe the frother with damp clothes straight after each use, and blow steam to flush it out.
I also haven't clean burr grinder yet… I saw Cafetto sells the beans-like burr grinder cleaner that seems do the job.

                  • @OzBestDeal: Thanks!!! Just called Breville Support and they were very hesitant to give out the rubber gasket without the hole for free. They said it is compatible and should work ok. They wanted me to purchase if I want one without the hole but managed to convince them to send me one

                    • @Brakus: Well done mate.
Expect a week or two for delivery.. they're quite slow

            • +1

@Brakus: it's in the manual of the coffee machine.

    • +3

You service the machine yourself. You need to buy backflush tablets, descaler and water filter. Im a 2 cup a day user. I backflush once every month (some people do it weekly to keep it in tip top condition). And descale about once every 2-3 months (or whenever the machine prompts you to descale). Water filters are changed once every 2-3 months. I descale and change water filter at the same time so i can remember the schedule.

Cafetto Tablets cost about $20 for a box of 100, Amazon
Cafetto Descaler 4 pack, $9 Amazon
Genuine Breville water filter 6 pack $34, Myer

You need to buy genuine water filters, dont cheap out on those.

Australia dont get the Royal Blue colour which looks freaking beautiful.

  • Just a heads up also, https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/breville-the-barista-express-… model is also included in the 15% off. I price matched this same model at JB HIFI and also for further saving used their $20 off coupon with over $300 spend (cost $570 total).

  • Very tempted to get this or the barista express impress. Same price. Thanks

    • I brought the express impress with cash rewards deal . Just don’t need a messy machine . Felt the expresso impress would serve me better coz I don’t want to open a coffee shop of my own !

      • Yeah, still thinking which way to go since impress will definitely make less mess. However the pro gift pack will include the funnel which ideally will take care the mess and 4 holes steam wand. Which cash rewards deal btw for the impress? Thanks

        • +1

Pro is better machine, unless you value auto tamping.

        • +2

So I sort of invited my partner to cash rewards and ordered it from her account with 15 off HOME code + 8% cashback + 30 aud Cashrewards invite bonus *2
          =899 - 134.85 - 61.13 - 30 - 30 = aud 643.02

Happy with the purchase . This machine will reduce a lot of work

  • Great deal!

    I absolutely love mine.

  • Other Barista Pro owners, anyone finding below temperature coffee is extracted? Measuring double shot after extraction, only gets to approx 70 degrees celsius in the cup. Optimum temperature at extraction is just over 90 degrees so a drop of 20 degrees when poured immediately in the cup seems too low. Breville work order raised with an authorised repairer.

    • i usually put boiling water in my cup first to keep it hot

    • Do you put / leave portafilter on grouphead and preheat machine for 15-20 min, do blind shot and put boiling water in the cup before extracting? Also set temperature to 93-94c.

      • Temperature set to highest option. Double blank shot before first extraction. No boiling water in cup.

Wanting to set expectation with prospective buyers, seems that despite 10 second thermojet, effort needed to get coffee shot up to optimum temp.

        • If you want optimum temp in the cup, you can't short cut the process and then expect magic. I would be surprised if anything wrong with the machine and Breville repairer would likely charge you a fee for that.

    • I also have suspicion that temperature is not as advertised. I have the Bambino Plus with the thermojet heating, temp is fixed at 200 fahrenheit or 93 degrees. I'm not getting anywhere near 90 degrees in the cup but my initial testing was probably flawed after reading some of the comments so will retest this weekend.
Thermostat is probably not 100% accurate. Will boil water in a kettle and measure with thermostat to get a baseline.
Pour boiling water in the cup to maximise cup temp.
Do a blank shot to warm up the portalfilter and basket and leave in shower head for a minute.
Do a another blank shot into the cup and measure water temp.

Regardless, will be interested to hear about your outcome with the repairer.

    • How did you measure the temperature?

Measuring the temperature in a cup isn't the way to do it fyi

      • I tried to measure the water temp coming out of the shower head using a kitchen thermometer and then the water temp in the cup.
What is the correct way to measure your machine is heating at 93 degrees?

  • i highly recommend this machine.. got it earlier in the year as my birthday present, its perfect. Barista Pro all the way! got it in a lovely Velvet red Colour..

  • Grabbed one yesterday staked with a 5% redeem home gc. Final cost was $726.75. Very impressed with the build quality and first coffee was great this morning. Hopefully it will last.

  • -1

    don't have the white one.

  • What is the difference between this and the Oracle?

    • Oracle series has 2 boilers, one for making coffee, the other for steaming milk. Each runs at different temperatures, so you don't have to wait for water to heat up or cool down, also you can make coffee and steam milk at the same time.

Barista series doesn't have boilers, it uses thermo block, sometimes called thermo coil or thermo jet. Not sure if they the same thing with different name, but they are not boilers. Benefit of thermo block is that it heats up very fast, on demand, but less powerful/consistent than boilers.

Also Oracle uses commercial sized 58mm portafiler, Barista uses 54mm ones. There more choices in 58mm accessories, such as dosing cups, funnels, baskets, screens, tampers. But Breville is so popular that choices in 54mm accessories are catching up.

  • Ordered one for delivery since CC is not available near my area.
    Thanks Op.

  • +1

Didn't know Breville makes a dosing funnel, and reasonably priced: https://www.breville.com/au/en/parts-accessories/accessories…

    • I would recommend a separate aluminum dosing cup like the link below:
      https://www.amazon.com.au/LEUOVE-Weighing-Espresso-Breville-…

It can get all powder every time.

      • Yeah, a dosing cup is better, easier to weight.

    • +2

Dosing funnel comes free in the breville gift pack that you get redeeming a Barista Pro purchase! That said, I got one but don't use it. I had a dosing cup similar as above posted

      • I found out about the dosing funnel from looking up the gift pack.

  • Bought it later year from TGG. It's such a nice and easy machine to pull a shot every day. Compared with Express, the added screen makes it much easier to tweak settings between different beans without reading the manual each time.

  • This or the dual boiler??? What to do….don’t have a grinder already fwiw.

      • dual boiler is not available by itself, there have been excellent deals in the past tho, but they don't come often.
      • How many cups do you make at one time and how many times a day?
      • How do you drink your coffee, black or cappuccino?
      • Do you have enough bench space for machine and separate grinder? (dual boiler + grinder takes lot of room)
      • Do you make any kind of coffee at home at moment?
You need to ask these questions before deciding which machine to buy.
      • Thanks for the guidance!

        • How many cups do you make at one time and how many times a day?
2 a day at the same time, 1 double shot and 1 single shot

How do you drink your coffee, black or cappuccino?
        Almond Latte & Oat Cap

        • Do you have enough bench space for machine and separate grinder? (dual boiler + grinder takes lot of room)
          Yep - heaps

        • Do you make any kind of coffee at home at moment?
I have a L'or pod machine which I don't use and instead go to the cafe every day paying 10 bucks a day for a 2 shot almond latte & a oat milk cap.

Given I don't have any equipment (e.g. don't have a grinder either), should I hold out for a dual boiler & even just buy one that's packaged up with the breville grinder (is it any good) if it's a good price? I def only want to invest in this once rather than buying something and upgrading soon after…yes could wait or do coffee as a slow process but I figure will get more joy from the machine if it can churn 2 cups out fairly quickly?

        • +1

If money not an issue with you, then if you buy BDB & grinder then you know you don't need to upgrade till machine break down. If not, then Express Pro would be good starting point then could upgrade in 2-3 years time.

        • +1

Another consideration is that Dual Boiler takes time to heat up, to boil the water.

Barista Pro is very much instant.

No issues if you always have coffee at around the same time of the day, you can program Dual Boiler to start at specific time.

But if you like to turn the machine on and off, and have coffee at random time of the day, then Barista Pro will serve you better.

          • @browser: Any coffee expert reviewers recommend to preheat any coffee machine for ~15min to warm all internals, group-head, portafilter as well as pour boiling water into cup to warm it. Running a blind shot is Not enough. If not, you will end up with not as good cup.

  • Great deal on price. this machine in my home very good quality.

  • How do these compare cost wise to pod machines which are super fast, no mess and no maintenece? Say a double shot pod is 80 cents, how much would a double shot espresso cost?

    • It's less about the price and more about how they make a nicer cup of coffee than pods. So instead of thinking of $/cup, think about utils (happiness)/$/cup. If you value good coffee then it's a no brainer but if you don't value good coffee then there's no point to buy.
