  • Better than nothing I suppose but as a comparison HP had a redemption on beats headphones worth $200+.
And you can't really sell your copy of office.

Also, it's too bad the new Zenbook Prime isn't part of this promotion.

  • It's okay, I guess. I just don't feel swayed whatsoever by these recent laptop deals.
When a manufacturer tries to push all their old stock off through these promotions when there's a big update right around the corner, I can't help but find it all too forced and obvious.
I'm really hanging out for a Zenbook Prime UX31A. No amount of free software is going to make me reconsider, to be honest.

  • hmm.. what if I am not a student? Wouldn't installing this version of office be a breach of licensing? I know no-one really cares, whatever is cheapest.. but still, by the terms of licensing, this version of Office can't be used for commercial purposes or be purchased by another other than a teacher or student, right?

    • From memory, the machine you're using it on shouldn't be used for revenue gaining activities. It relates to the primary use of the computer. So you can't open a business with 9 computers, and go an put Home and Student on them. However, if you have a laptop that you keep at home and sometimes check your work emails on, it's more than okay to use Home and Student.
I haven't ever heard of them auditing individual users. It wouldn't make sense to.

      • Not to mention a pointless waste of money (read profit) for them to do so, the cost incurred is going be much greater than the cost of one "work suitable" edition and the difference between H&S and the proper edition combined. Selling a H&S version or not selling any version, I know which one they'll take.

    • No, it is different to an academic version. Home and Student is the cheap version of office for home use. Doesn't have outlook for example..

  • +1

Libreoffice, it might not be for everyone, but it's a decent open source office suite. So it's free for everyone.

  • Now just for someone to find a good Asus deal and post on OZB!

  • This might not be for everyone, but I got the Zenbook UX31E for $1517.30 at the JB HiFi 10% off sale at Macquarie Centre North Ryde last night. This includes an extra $100 off from the salesman plus a free $18 Microsoft wireless mouse. The 30% cashback on the mouse will reduce the price by another $8.99.
